Killian’s POV
I sit in the waiting area, tapping my feet impatiently. Claire’s pacing to and fro, she’s still crying. I feel like reaching out to comfort her, but I know it’ll only provoke her.
The nurses are running in and out of Ryan’s ward, not telling us anything, which makes our worries increase.
“Baby…. Plea…please calm down”
She throws me a very harsh glare immediately I said that, and that shut me up instantly.
She’s angry at me, very angry. But you know I don’t blame her, she has every right to. I didn’t listen to her, rather I fought with her and even hit her.
I’m so damn stupid.
Just then my mom and Keira rushes through the door towards us. I called my Mom earlier on and brief her on what happened to Ryan.
“Claire, how is Ryan now?” My Mom asked.
She opens her arms and Claire enters, she begin to cry more painfully.
“Mom, Ryan vomited blood, he.. he.. he…” Her tears didn’t let her complete her sentence.
Mom Pat’s her back gently and leads her to a chair, she helps Claire sit and continue to comfort her.
Keira sits next to me, she takes my hand in hers, squeezing it softly.
“Don’t worry, Killian. Nothing will happen to Ryan, he’s a tough boy!” I just nod and smile at her appreciatively.
Just then, the doctor comes out from the ward and walk towards us.
“Mr Knight? Can you please come with me to my office? I wanna have a word with you” he said.
“Why? You can tell me anything, I’m his mother” Claire said, looking at the doctor with her teary eyes. My heart breaks into a thousand pieces when I saw her tears.
The doctor looks between us nervously, I shake my head at him, as a sign for him not to say anything to her.
“Uh… I think your husband is the best option here. If you’ll excuse me” the doctor leaves.
I turn to Keira.
” Please, watch Claire for me”
“No problem, bro. You go ahead” she said.
I lock gaze with Claire, but she looks away. I sigh and rush after the doctor.
Claire’s POV
After Killian follow the doctor, two nurse came out from Ryan’s ward. I approach them.
“How is my son?” I asked them.
“Ma’am, your son is out of danger now. You can go in and see him, but be careful not to disturb him. He needs a lot of rest right now”
” I understand. Thanks”
I rush inside the ward, Nicole and Keira follow me in. My heart breaks when I see my son lying on the hospital bed, almost lifeless, his skin pale, his lips no longer pink, but blue.
I can hardly recognize him.
I quickly went to his side and holds his little hand, Tears begin to flow down my face again.
“Ryan, I’m so sorry my son. I’m not a good mother, I let you be in danger. I use your life as a bait, please forgive your careless mother. I’m so sorry” I said amidst tears.
Nicole comes to my side, she put her arms around me.
“It’s alright now, Claire. Look Ryan is safe now, he’s sleeping. Don’t cry, everything is fine” she said to me.
I nod, a weak smile on my lips. Yeah… My son is fine, I don’t need to worry.
I know I don’t pray more often, but thank you Lord for keeping my son safe.
Killian’s POV
I enter the doctor’s office, he gestures to a chair and I sit down.
He clears his throat and studies me for a moment.
“I’m sorry to ask you this, Mr Knight. But how did your son come in contact with iron pills?”
I look at him unsure, I’m sure it’s that juice Anita force him to drink.
But how can I tell him that my son was poisoned in my own house, under my supervision.
He notices I’m not ready to talk so he continues.
“What happened is a miracle, it has never happened before. Iron pills are very harmful, it kills under 30minutes. But God is strongely with your boy, the pills didn’t do much harm to him”
” So you mean, he’s perfectly fine now?” I asked.
“Yes, perfectly. You have to keep him warm at all times, always make sure to keep him hydrated at all time” he tells me.
I breath in relief. Thank God.
” Thank you doctor” I thank him.
“One more thing, Mr Knight. Make him play his favorite games to help him recover fast” he said.
” No problem, thanks doc” I said and stands up. “So, when can we take him home?”
” You can take him home later, but try to bring him here for check ups or we can give him a home nurse”
” Yeah, a home nurse is good”
” Okay, it’s settled” he said.
I shake hands with him and head out. Thank God my son is safe now, or else, I wouldn’t know how to face Claire.
I have a lot of begging to do, I just hope Claire would forgive me..
