Nonye – Episode 2

Amah’s Heart
‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡
I know you’re curious about my story. I didn’t intend to keep you in suspense, my thoughts just didn’t give room for introductions. Since you already know my name, let’s skip that part.
I hailed from a devout Christian family with a strong faith background. My parents, passionate about God, raised my older brother and I with the fear of God and our family is considered a role model family in our community.
Following in our parents’ footsteps, my brother, Daniel and I have walked the Christian path. He is an executive in his campus fellowship in school, and I was known as “Jesus baby” in secondary school for my decency. Being nominated as fellowship president while in SS3, I led many to Christ, inspiring peers to follow my example.
After secondary school, I achieved excellent grades, making my parents incredibly proud and afterward started the processing for my institution which  proved challenging. I took JAMB twice, achieving good results, but admission to my chosen school remained elusive for two years. My parents, with their ministerial background, offered comfort, reminding me that God’s timing is perfect and that He speaks through every situation. I clung to my fate drawing strength from their words.
Their frequent ministry engagements sometimes took them away and I had either accompany them or stay home.
It hasn’t been easy seeing my schoolmates’ campus life updates on social media although I feel happy for them, but also sad about my own situation.
My parents involved me in their ministry, and we’ve been doing outreach and evangelism together which along the line I’ve developed passion for and God’s grace through me have impacted young lives.
One teenager approached me after an outreach one day saying, “Sis Nonye, I wish I was your younger sister, sleeping and waking up to your daily words of encouragement.”… I was touched at her words and at the same time remembered how I heard similar statements from my juniors during my school days, telling me how I’ve being a role model to them. I smiled on hearing those words coming from her and I tried letting her know we are one in Christ.
“We may not be blood sisters, but we’re one family in Christ,” I reassured her.
On our way back home, I shared the encounter with my parents and they encouraged me more.
“That’s what God want us to be, a shining light for others, dad had said.
“Do continue to shine  brighter dear”…. mum added with a smile.
My routine to support my parents ministerial work continued until one Wednesday night. I was trying to clear the table after dinner when dad asked me to sit. I was curious, noticing Mom’s calm demeanor, indicating she already knew what he wanted to discuss.
“Chinonye, he began, his tone laced with sadness. Mom’s expression mirrored his.
“I would like discuss to something with you,’ he continued.
“Okay, sir,” I replied, sitting down.”
I don’t know what exactly was going to be discussed but my fear grew, I tried to think of what I could’ve done wrong but can’t think of any.
I have followed in their godly footsteps
I have walked in the right path and never gone astray.
What exactly is the discussion about that makes my stomach tightened in fear.
