Nonye – Episode 11

Amah’s Heart

Ekene finally arrived, flashing a charming smile as he approached us. “Hey Ada, hi Nonye,” he said, greeting us warmly. “I didn’t know you guys were already here. Hope you didn’t have trouble finding the place?”
Ada shook her head. “Not at all. We took a cab.”
Ekene’s smile broadened. “Wow, you’re really living it up tonight. You both look stunning, by the way.”
I blushed, feeling a little self-conscious. “Thanks,” I said quietly.
Ekene’s gaze swept over us, his expression approving. “I can see you’ve already started enjoying yourselves. That’s great! Just relax, have fun, and let me know if you need anything.” With that, he stood up and headed towards the DJ booth, leaving Ada and me to our drinks.
The music abruptly stopped, and Ekene appeared on stage, microphone in hand. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he began, his voice booming across the room. “I welcome you all to this fantastic occasion! For those who may be wondering, this event is all about mingling, relaxing, and having an amazing time. So, let’s get this party started!”
With a flourish, Ekene dropped the microphone, and the music erupted once more, filling the room with energy and excitement. The crowd cheered, and the party truly began.
I sat alone, nursing my drink as Ada danced the night away on the crowded floor. Her body swayed rhythmically to the music, lost in the moment.
As I watched her, my mind began to wander. I thought about Ekene’s intentions for hosting this party and how it might benefit me. I glanced at my phone and saw that it was already 1 am.
To pass the time, I started scrolling through my phone. But my attention was soon diverted by a familiar masculine voice behind me. I looked up, expecting to see the owner of the voice, but there was no one there.
I had been holding it in for a while, but nature was finally calling. I was starting to feel uncomfortable, and I knew I couldn’t delay any longer. I stood up, scanning the dance floor for Ada. When I spotted her, I made my way over.
“Ada, I need to use the restroom,” I said, trying to convey my urgency.
She didn’t miss a beat, still dancing to the music. “Just go down the hallway to your left. You’ll see it.”
I hesitated, feeling a little anxious. “Can’t you come with me? I don’t know this place very well.”
Ada chuckled, not breaking her stride. “Come on, Nonye! Don’t be such a worrier. It’s easy to find. Just go!”
I felt like I was bothering her, so I decided to venture out on my own.
As I entered the restroom, I was relieved to find it empty. I quickly took care of myself and washed my hands, having done that, I opened the door to leave
but was taken aback and was startled to see chuks standing right opposite the restroom with a sly grin spreading across his face.
“Pa pa pa…he clapped his hands and said in a low voice…”look who we have here”.
I felt a shiver run down my spine as he took a step closer to me. I tried to find my voice and spoke..
“What…are..you doing here, chuks?I manage to say trying to keep my voice steady.
“I could ask you the same thing, he replied his eyes scanning through the hallway…”but I think I already know, you are here with Elene, aren’t you?
I hesitated, unsure of what to say, I tried to play it cool, but my mind was racing. How did Chucks know I was here with Ekene? And what did he want?
“I…I came with Ada,” I stammered, trying to downplay my connection to Ekene.
Chuks raised an eyebrow; his grin grew wider. “Ada, huh? Well, isn’t that convenient. Ekene just happens to be here too. What a coincidence.”
I felt a surge of unease as Chucks took another step closer to me. His eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if he could see right through me.
“What do you want, Chuks?” I asked, trying to keep my voice firm.
Chuks chuckled, a low, menacing sound. “Oh, I think you know exactly what I want, Nonye,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.
“Chuks, please,” I begged, “I’m not here for this.” I glanced around desperately, hoping to see someone who could save me from him, but the hallway seemed eerily empty and silent.
Having noticed my action, he grabbed my hand, his grip tightening around my wrist. I tried to pull my hand free, but Chucks’ grip was like a vice. He dragged me down the hallway, my sandals scraping against the floor as I struggled to keep up.
“Let me go, Chucks!” I demanded, trying to sound brave despite the fear rising up inside me.
He pushed open a door at the end of the hallway, revealing a dimly lit room with a single chair in the center. Chucks dragged me inside, slamming the door shut behind us.
