โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

~ Genevieve ~

I woke up to warmth.

Not just the kind you get from plush duvets or golden morning light seeping lazily through obscenely expensive hotel curtainsโ€”though both were certainly present.

No, this warmth was alive.

Dominicโ€™s arm was draped over my waist, heavy and possessive, his chest pressed flush against my back, his breath ghosting rhythmically over my neck like he had every right to breathe me in. Which, I suppose, he now did.

I blinked slowly. The ceiling came into focus first, then the faint scent of himโ€”dark, masculine, clean but layered with something rich and groundingโ€”wrapped around me like a second skin.

And then I moved my hand.

My left hand.

Cold metal kissed the skin of my finger.

I froze.

Gingerly, I lifted it before my face, eyes still blurred from sleep.

There it was.

A ring.

My ringโ€”the one heโ€™d slid onto my finger last night.

It sat there, elegant and perfect, like it had always belonged. And God, it felt like it did.

Iโ€™m engaged.

I am engaged.

Oh my Godโ€”Iโ€™m actually bloรณdy engaged to Dominic Morozov.

And as if my thoughts had taken on volume, I whispered aloud, โ€œOh my God.โ€ The words came out as a breathless gaspโ€”part-laugh, part-shock. My heart stumbled over itself as I sat up gingerly, not wanting to disturb him. โ€œIโ€™m engaged.โ€

The word sounded foreign and utterly real all at once.

Engaged.

To Dominic f+cking Morozov.

I stared at the ring again, blinking like a fรณol, half-expecting it to vanish. Like last night had been some deliriously decadent dream Iโ€™d made up.

But no.

The ache in my lips from too many kisses, the soreness blooming between my thighs, the ghost of his touch etched into my skinโ€”that was all very real.

And the ring on my finger?

That was the proof. The symbol. The beginning.

โ€œBlรณody hรฉll,โ€ I whispered, a slow smile curling at my lips as the enormity of it all washed over me in waves. โ€œIโ€™m engaged. Iโ€™m reallyโ€”oh my God, Iโ€™m engaged.โ€

Dominic stirred behind me. Still half-lost to sleep, he reached out, mumbling against the back of my neck, โ€œI know.โ€

I turned, half-laughing, half-scolding, and swatted him lightly with a pillow. โ€œYouโ€”you proposed to me. On a rooftop!โ€

He cracked one eye open, voice gravelly and full of amusement. โ€œAnd you said yes. I was there.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t even know how to act.โ€ I glanced down at the ring again, completely and utterly besotted. โ€œYesterday I went to bed as your girlfriend. Today, I woke up as your fiancรฉe.โ€

โ€œMm.โ€ He tugged my hand to his lips, pressing a kiss to the ring like it meant everything. โ€œBest decision Iโ€™ve ever made, Vixen.โ€

And just like that, I melted.

With his arm around my waist, he pulled me back into bedโ€”into himโ€”and nestled his face into the crook of my neck.

I inhaled slowly, breathing him in, savouring the quiet intimacy. For a brief, perfect moment, the rest of the worldโ€”the chaรณs, the responsibilities, the names that haรบnted usโ€”didnโ€™t exist.

 Just this.

Just us.

โ€ขโ€ข

Breakfast felt like a celebration.

I padded barefoot into the kitchen, wearing nothing but Dominicโ€™s crisp white shirtโ€”too big on me, the sleeves hiding my hands, the hem skimming just below the curve of my thighs. The moment I passed him, he muttered something thoroughly inappropriร te, but I dodged his wandering hand with a smirk.

โ€œTouch me and youโ€™re cooking n+kรฉd.โ€

He raised an eyebrow, like he absolutely would, and turned back to the stove, cracking eggs like the act had personally offended him.

โ€œYouโ€™re not going to ruiรฑ my celebratory breakfast, are you?โ€ I asked, leaning lazily against the counter, chin in hand, watching my boyfriendโ€”shirtless in grey joggers, all taut muscles and casual power.

Correctionโ€”fiancรฉ.

I bit my lip. How could such a small word feel so immense?

โ€œYou wound me,โ€ he said, glancing over his shoulder. โ€œIโ€™m an excellent cook. You, of all people, should know that.โ€

โ€œMm? Why, though?โ€

โ€œBecause Iโ€™ve cooked for you at least a dozen times.โ€

โ€œYou have? Funny, I canโ€™t recall.โ€

โ€œShall I remind you?โ€

โ€œWhat? No. Iโ€™m starving.โ€

He scoffedโ€”somewhere between a laugh and a growl. โ€œGet your mind out of the gutter. I was talking about food.โ€

โ€œNo, you werenโ€™t,โ€ I said breezily.

He smirked.

He f+ckรญng smirked. โ€œStill time for that, baby.โ€

I threw a grape at him. It bounced off his shoulder. He didnโ€™t even flinch. Just kept flipping the omelette with the sort of smug confidence that made it clearโ€”he knew I was watching him like a love-struck foรณl. Which I was.

He made coffee while I set the table, and when we finally satโ€”knees brushing, sun spilling through the windowsโ€”I looked up at him, fork halfway to my mouth.

โ€œI donโ€™t think this feelingโ€™s going to wear off.โ€

โ€œWhat feeling?โ€

โ€œThis.โ€ I wiggled my fingers, showing him the ring again, laughing at myself. โ€œThe butterflies. The ridiculous giddiness. The oh-my-god-heโ€™s-mine.โ€

Dominicโ€™s expression softened. Not just with affection, but with something deeper. Something possessive and reverent. Something dangรฉrous in its devotion.

โ€œYou think Iโ€™m going to let you forget?โ€ he murmured, reaching over to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. โ€œYou said yes to forever, Genevieve. I intend to remind you every single day.โ€

God. I wanted to melt into the chair.

Or better yetโ€”into him.

โ€œYouโ€™re disgustingly sweet when you want to be.โ€

โ€œAnd you love it.โ€

I rolled my eyes. โ€œUnfortunately.โ€

He leant in, pressed a kiss to the corner of my mouthโ€”soft, fleeting. โ€œFortunately,โ€ he whispered. โ€œVery fortunately.โ€

..

The entire day passed in a haze of soft kisses and tangled limbs. We alternated between the bed and the sofa, then back againโ€”lazy, content, and utterly wrapped up in one another.

The only time we werenโ€™t practically glued together was during a mid-afternoon swim. And toilet breaks.

It was, frankly, the perfect way to spend time with a clingy fiancรฉ.

God, that word was going to take some getting used to.

Now, we were curled up watching a film, snacking on chips Iโ€™d insisted he order.

The room was pitch-dark, save for the flickering light from the telly. The bed was too comfortable, coaxing me into drowsiness far earlier than expected.

I shoved threeโ€”possibly fourโ€”chips into my mouth and chewed slowly, eyes fixed on the screen.

โ€œDoes your mother know?โ€ His voice was low, gravelly, almost hesitant.

It cut straight through the haze.

I turned to look at him. โ€œKnow what?โ€

โ€œAbout me.โ€

โ€œI told her I was seeing someone. Why?โ€

โ€œNothing. Just curious.โ€

It wasnโ€™t nothing. Not even close.

I didnโ€™t tear my gaze away. His eyes always gave him awayโ€”and tonight was no exception.

โ€œYouโ€™re nervous,โ€ I announced, barely suppressing a grin. โ€œYou, Dominic Morozov, are nervous.โ€ Amusement bubbled through me like champagne. โ€œI canโ€™t believe it. Thatโ€™s so sweet.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not sweet.โ€

A laugh burst from my chest. โ€œYouโ€™re absolutely right. Youโ€™re not.โ€ I straddled his lap and placed a kiss on his cheek. โ€œYouโ€™re the sweetest.โ€ Another kiss. โ€œThe absolute sweetest man on earth.โ€

โ€œThe sweetest?โ€

I nodded. โ€œHmm.โ€ My fingers traced the buttons on his pyjama top. โ€œThereโ€™s nothing to worry about, Dom. I love you.โ€ The moment I said it, his eyes softened the way they always did. It undid me every time. โ€œAnd because I love you, my family will too.โ€

โ€œEven Everett?โ€

I grinned, nodding.

โ€œAnd Xavier?โ€

I hesitatedโ€”just a beatโ€”but nodded. โ€œYes. Even Xavier. Heโ€™s got no choice. If he still wants to be my favourite brother-in-law, heโ€™ll accept you.โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s your only brother-in-law.โ€ His hands settled at my waist, thumbs tracing slow circles I adored.

โ€œNo. What about Dex? He says youโ€™re like a brother to him.โ€

โ€œDexter.โ€ He always did that. A quiet little battle of wills. โ€œWhen did he say that?โ€

โ€œAges ago.โ€

Back when I was still hell-bent on s+dรบcing Dominic into madnรฉss. It felt like a lifetime ago.

โ€œFine. Letโ€™s say I accept that.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve no choice. Heโ€™s persistent.โ€

Dominic laughed under his breath. โ€œHe is.โ€

โ€œYeah. What about Sal?โ€ I hesitated. Then it slipped out without thought. โ€œAnd Blade?โ€

He went still.

His gaze dimmed. Soft turned blank.

My heart twisted.

โ€œNo, noโ€”Dom, Iโ€™m sorry.โ€ I cupped his face, forcing our eyes to meet. โ€œI didnโ€™t mean to bring that up. Iโ€™m so sorry, baby.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ he muttered. โ€œI just thought we could go one day without mentioning the Bratvร .โ€

โ€œI shouldnโ€™t have said it.โ€

โ€œYou didnโ€™t do anything wrong. Itโ€™s Blade. One of the first you trusted after learning about the Base. You spent more time with him than Salโ€”even though he barely spoke.โ€

Memories crashed over me.

โ€œYou fought for itโ€”his trust. And you earned it. You became friends. I canโ€™t expect you to forget him in a matter of months.โ€

โ€œYeah, butโ€”โ€

โ€œNo buts, love.โ€ His voice was gentle but firm. โ€œRory hasnโ€™t forgotten. Neither has Echo. Or Sal. Or Dexter, no matter how he pretends. Blade mattered. To all of us.โ€

I nodded. โ€œHe did.โ€

Dominicโ€™s voice lowered. โ€œIf things had been different, he wouldโ€™ve been like a brother to me too.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m still sorry.โ€

โ€œGenevieve, itโ€™s fine.โ€

I flinched at the use of my full name, but let it go. โ€œWhat didnโ€™t you want to talk about until tomorrow?โ€

His gaze darkenedโ€”quiet but full of something. Hesitation. Regret. Guilt.

โ€œDom?โ€

He drew a breath. โ€œYou were right,โ€ he said softly. โ€œViktor isnโ€™t dรฉad.โ€
