You know that feeling when your phone rings at the worst possible moment, and all you want to do is hurl it across the room in frustration?
Well, congratulationsโI’m right there with you. I felt like taking a swing at the annoying device that belonged to me, but instead, I chose to ignore it.
Cupping Dominic’s face in my hands, I pulled his attention back to me and leaned down to capture his lips with mine. His hands gripped my waist, pulling me closer, a low grunt escaping his throat.
One thing about Dominic Morozov is that heโs a fast learner. The way he dove his tongue into my mouth, fighting for dominanceโso different from the way he used to let me take the leadโwas almost unbelievable considering he had his first kiss just a few months ago.
He has discovered every little trick to drive me wild with his kisses. I can almost say heโs nearly as good as I am when it comes to kissing.
Almost, being the crucial word here.
But honestly, I canโt complain. He kisses me every time as if it might be our last, savoring each moment, whether itโs a quick peck or a slow, lingering embrace. He kisses me like Iโm his lifeline, tasting every inch of my mouth as if he canโt bear the thought of losing me.
Or maybe Iโm just being delusional. Perhaps Iโm overthinking things, desperately wishing he felt the same way about me.
Never in a million years did I expect to be the one who fell first. Iโve always placed myself on a pedestal, refusing to let anyone look down on me. Being a King helped with that, instilling a sense of self-love that led others to label me as conceited or narcissistic.
So, falling for a man I might have once hatรฉd feels… oddly out of character, but I like it. I enjoy the flutter in my stomach, the tugging at my heartstrings, and the warmth that spreads across my cheeks whenever he gives me those heart-melting looksโlooks he may or may not realize heโs giving.
The ringing of a phoneโhis this timeโpulled him away from my lips. He hissed in frustration at whoever was calling, yet he didnโt reach for his phone. Instead, he smiled at me, tucking a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
โArenโt you going to answer that?โ I asked, nodding toward his phone, which lay face down on the picnic blanket. โIt might be important.โ
โMore important than you? I doubt it,โ Dominic replied.
I kid you not, my heart felt like it was about to explode as my gaze darted between his eyes, searching forโwhat? A hint of insincerity? But I found none; he was genuine.
I swallowed hard, the lump in my throat growing as a feeling I couldnโt identify overwhelmed meโmaybe it was panic. It stole the breath from my lungs, and I feared I was truly being delusional, overanalyzing his every action.
Concern washed over his face as he noticed the shift in my expression. Dominic cupped my face with those handsโhands that have killรฉd but were surprisingly soft and gentle with me, as if he feared he might break me.
Would he? I truly hoped not.
Before the question I knew was about to slip from his lips could escape, I quickly wiped the worry from my face and put on a convincing smile that I could tell he didnโt buy. โIโm fine.โ
โYouโre lying. I thought you said we shouldnโt do that to each other.โ
I did say that. But that was before I fell hopelessly in love with you, Dominic.
โCan I ask you a question?โ
I wasnโt surprised by his startled reaction; my question was sudden and unexpected. His perfectly knitted brows furrowed in surprise, a look that was almost annoyingly adorable.
โOkay,โ he replied, hesitantly shifting beneath me. โWhat is it?โ
Here goes nothing. Actually, here goes everything, because his answer will determine how the rest of my dayโand probably my week, month, and even yearsโwill unfold.
“What is your ideal type?”
He frowned, clearly puzzled. “I don’t get it.” His fingers slowly intertwined with mine, absentmindedly playing with my hand.
This wasnโt the first time heโd done this. In fact, it was a frequent occurrence. Whether we were watching a movie or deep in conversation, his fingers found their way to mine. Even when he was working on his computer, he always wanted to have his hands on me.
I didnโt quite understand why he felt the need to do it, but I certainly didnโt hร te it. I never had.
“If you wanted to date right now, what would your ideal type be?”
“I donโt date.”
“Thereโs a first time for everything.”
“In this situation, I highly doubt that ever happening. Iโm not good with feelings.”
“I think you do just fine.”
“Youโre just saying that.”
“No, Iโm serious, Dominic. Youโre human. No matter how hard you try, youโll always have emotions, whether you like it or not.”
“Emotions are weird.”
“I totally agree, but at the same time, theyโre pretty nice to have. You get to feel happy, sad, andโ”
“Genevieve, why the question?” He cut me off.
I took a deep breath to steady myself. “Iโm just curious. I want to know.”
“Know what kind of girls I see as my ideal type?” I nodded. Dominic hummed thoughtfully. “I donโt really know. But if she had strawberry blonde hair, blue eyes, was 5’3″, and had a name that started with a G and ended with an E, I wouldnโt mind.”
Oxygen seemed to evaporate from my lungs as my heart began to race. I couldnโt tell if he was just joking or if there was some truth to his words.
I was desperate to know, and so was my heart, not to mention the entirety of my body still straddling him. His gaze traveled over my face before he cupped it in his hands.
“If it isnโt you, I donโt want anyone else,” he added. “I only want you, so get that question out of your pretty little head. Remember… I am yours.”
He meant it.
I could feel it deep within me now.
Dominic flashed his signature boyish smile and inched closer. My eyelids fluttered shut as his lips brushed against my forehead, lingering longer than usual before he pulled away to meet my gaze.
Then he showered kisses all over my faceโeverywhere but my lips. “Just yours.”
That was more than enough to put the question to rest for now. A satisfied grin spread across my face as I tangled my fingers in his hair and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
“Thatโs good, because I donโt share.” I meant every word. “Ever. Iโve never done it, and I wonโt start now.”
“Good, because I wonโt share you either.” Dominic pressed his lips against mine in a soft kiss.
Exactly forty minutes later, we lay on the picnic blanket, staring up at the sky, enjoying the perfect afternoon. The sky was a brilliant blue, dotted with fluffy clouds, and the breeze was just right.
Our fingers danced together, refusing to part, and I was grateful for it. We talked about everything under the sun, laughed, and relished the moment before he suddenly asked, “You want to see something crร zy?”
Without a momentโs hesitation, even though I had no idea what he meant, I exclaimed, “Hรฉck yeah.”
