For a painfully long minute, the underground became a silent otherworld where the drop of a feather would jingle.

No yells from Dreads or screams of excitement from Enigmas.

It’s like they were taking time to process what just happened.

Everyone with functioning ears heard the crack from Skylar arm.

It has never happened before. El Crow and Skylar have been fighting in the ring for years, and none had never succeeded in breaking anything from each other.

It was always large wounds or painful bruises and unforgettable scars, but crack?

It took the breaths of everyone away, and when Skylar tried using her second hand to hold the ring strings for balance, El Crow blew that hand away from the string, pivoting twice before sending his leg to her chest.

Skylar’s body took the kick personal. She floated weakly to the other corner, landing with a crash.

The worse? She landed directly on her broken shoulder.

“Aggggggghhhhhh!!!!!”

The scream that tore from her pained throat was sonorous, agonizing, brutally high and soul-wrecking.

“Ughhhhhhhhhh!!!!”

She remained there, clutching that broken shoulder as red veins popped on her neck and eyelids.

Then, the crowd began counting down on the seconds.

“One!!!”

“Two!!!”

“Three!!!….

“Is she getting old?” Midnight muttered. “Is that why she’s constantly disgracing the Team?”

“This bitch is just 23,” Satan said calmly. “She has no idea the consequences of what she’s doing.”

“Should we start popping champagne now?” Castle relaxed beside Arturo.

“Oh boy, we’re popping more than champagne tonight.” Arturo grinned, staring at El Crow in the ring with the smile of a proud father and Boss.

Roselle was rejoicing inwardly, learning to keep her smile secret, but beside and around her, Roy and the other Dreads were fuming.

Everyone showed one expression or the other except Rosita who looked unreadable. Her deep eyes are on Skylar who’s still on the ground.

“51!!” The crowd’s readings grew louder as they prepared to clock sixty, but Skylar still couldn’t stand.

She lay there like a badly wounded bleeding wolf. Every of her attempt to get back up ended in failure.

It felt like something was pressing her down, and at the same time, it felt like her shoulder has been separated from her body.

Her heartache persisted.

El Crow stood over her, eyes hooded, venomous and disgusted. Muscles kissed on his chest and on his back.

He gathered saliva in his mouth and spat the warm thing directly on Skylar’s scattered hair.

“60!!!” The crowd yelled.

It’s over.

One minute over.

Enigma team exploded at the other side of the ring.

“Yes!!!!!”

“It’s El Crow!!!”

“Always El Crow!!!”

“The baddest stitchmouth!!”

“He won!!!!”

Blade hugged Bishop.

Kent hugged Lovato.

The other 30+ Enigmas at the back hugged with feral happiness too.

When Lovato broke the hug with Kent, Bishop wanted to give her a hug too, but she whizzed out of the angle.

She jumped over to the spectators seat where Castle sat beside Arturo.

She threw her arms around Castle with blind excitement, screaming.

“We won!!!!”

“Yes, Vato, we did.” Castle grinned, hugging her back for a minute.

Her hairpin slipped away from her hair, and it broke into two on the floor without her notice.

From the ring side, Bishop stared at them with screwed mouth.

“You don’t look good.” Blade noticed.

“I was just about to say,” Kent added.

Bishop faked a smile. “I’m fine.”

The special guest stood, and the underground lights were turned off as he came out of the curtain and made his way to the exit with his array of guards escorting him.

No one saw his face.

The darkness covered everything, and no one even saw what he was wearing or how he looked.

Satan and Midnight caught up by the exit, but they weren’t even allowed to go close to him. His guards blocked any chance of closeness.

“I made a huge bet on your team, but I was disappointed,” His tone was closed-off, yet dangerous enough to tilt the walls and ceilings.

“I’ll make it up to you, I promise,” Satan cleared respectfully. “I’ll give the bi+ch who disgraced us the right punishment, and—”

“The punishment you decide to give to her is not my cup of tea,” He cut in like the wind. “I lost my bet, and my money won’t return to me. This only proves that Enigmas are the real deal. Arturo is still the Boss of all Bosses, and you’re just a joke, Satan.”

Satan’s nails bit deeply into her thumb flesh, and a drop of her blood trickled to the floor. She sank her teeth into the left wall of her mouth.

The special guest stepped away, taking his zombie-looking guards and unsettling presence with him.

—

In the dark underground, the pull cracked in El Crow’s chest again. The strange pull he felt when he came out of Enigma House earlier.

The pull towards Roselle.

He can’t see her right now, but he smelled her.

Her scent was hitting his being in unhealthy places, so strong it made his nose flare and his bones blow.

Even as Skylar was taken away from the ring by medics, he couldn’t concentrate. All he could see was a blur of himself and Roselle.

He couldn’t think of anything else.

He couldn’t breathe.

His eyeballs switched from the normal dark shade to the shade of fire. He held the ring string tight, and her scent found him in waves again.

His legs moved.

Despite the blurriness of his eyes, he knew her present location. He clawed through the thick crowd like an animal, looking for her.

Not for long.

He found her by a wall.

Roselle clutched at her own chest too, and her eyes carried the same shade of burning fire like his eyes. She was sweating like him, running insane like him, smelling his scent too.

He lunged for her, caught her shoulders in his palms, and dove in—straight for her lips.

But his sanity kicked in before he could do it. The little remembrance that he hates this female.

He’s not supposed to hold her this way, feel her this way, smell or crave her this way. It shouldn’t happen.

He pulled back, and pains exploded in his skull.

Roselle quickly gripped his wrist. Her desperate eyes didn’t lose their glow as she looked up at him.

“You can’t fight this. Inferno said we’d grow a soul bond with whoever we had intimate time with at Aftermoor, and remember I kissed you. This insane pull is the start of our bond.”

“In your fucking dreams,” he whispered demonically, plucking his wrists away from her grip.

The pain in his head doubled. He clutched his head, groaning.

“You have no idea how far I can go for your sake, El Crow. You have no idea..” she said softly, placing her lips on his chest. “I love you so much, Crow. And I promise to be the first person to have the honour of knowing your real name.”

She inhaled him in, kissing his sweaty chest again, licking the sweat.

“Please, don’t throw away this beautiful bond. We might be from rival teams, but mother would understand if we openly declare our feelings. Don’t ruin our—”

“El Crow! Where the fuck are you?!” Blade’s voice sliced through the paralyzing darkness.

El Crow threw Roselle’s head off his chest, and his breathings began balancing back, sweat drying. His eyes lost that fire spark.

The hearing of his name seemed to bring him back to his senses.

“There’ll never be an us, Roselle,” He declared, lips slanting. His hate darkened his small eyes again.

By the time he left the corner, the underground lights came back on.

Roselle squatted, and her body calmed too. Her eyes reclaimed normalcy. Her sweat dried.

“Fuck, he smells so good,” She muttered in total starvation. “His sweat tastes heavenly too.” She swallowed saliva, licking her lips.

“Roselle?” Roy appeared.

She looked up questioningly.

“We should get back to the house. I’m eager to see what Boss Satan will do to Skylar,” He confessed.

—

[Dread House – Skylar’s Suite]

It was raining again. Rain doesn’t seem to be a seasonal thing in this part of the city. The clouds cry at any chance it gets like a starved kid.

Skylar could hear the pitty-patter against her open bedroom window as she sat in front of her mirror, checking out her face.

The bruises are still there. The cuts and wounds are still intact. But somehow, her broken shoulder already healed. It healed immediately the medics took her out of the ring.

She raised it, swung it, pressed it.

No pain. No abnormality.

She stared at herself in the mirror, and her eyes caught a reflection of her medals, belts and trophies behind herself. Fifteen of them, earned through her draw fights with El Crow, but those fifteen feels like the last trophies she’d ever get as it is.

If this heartache keeps punishing her like this, then she’s hopeless.

Imagine making her weak and getting a broken shoulder in the ring, only for her to come out of the ring and get a healed shoulder.

Is that it?

Is that what Aftermoor curse is going to be doing to her from now on?

She didn’t only fail to kill El Crow, but she also lost for the first time ever.

She failed the team.

She needs to see Inferno again, but how? Unless she dies and makes Ayana send her to Aftermoor.

Wait… Ayana.

The witch.

She’ll go see her first. Maybe she’ll have some sort of solution to this witchy nonsense happening to her.

She can’t continue this way.

She rearranged her wet hair which she washed during her bath twenty minutes ago.

She didn’t bother drying it before packing it in a rough ponytail.

She’ll have to cut this hair.

She slipped into her long-sleeve leather bodysuit and boots, preparing herself for the worse.

If the worse comes, it’s reputable for it to meet her in a good shape.

And the worse indeed came, cos immediately she finished dressing up, Dread Armies entered the room.

They didn’t have a conversation with Skylar. They never converse with anyone. Skylar has never heard anyone of them speak before.

They raised a cardboard, and on the cardboard, the message was written.

“You’ve been ordered to leave this room without picking a pin.”

Skylar didn’t try to appeal.

Appeal would do nothing so far Satan is involved.

She walked out of the room in the company of the Armies.

At the hallway, she came across the cleaning woman, and as they walked past each other, the woman slipped something into Skylar’s palm.

Skylar folded her palm on whatever it is, concealing it to avoid suspicions.

She stepped outside with the Armies, and she came face-to-face with every Dread team member at the balcony.

They’re all waiting with Satan and Midnight as the leads.

There was silence as Skylar walked into the midst of team members who’re all her mortal enemies.

No space for her in the balcony, so she stepped down—into the rain.

She faced the balcony of Dreads with her arms rigid by her sides.

“For disgracing the team, and failing at your duty tonight, Skylar Vox,” Midnight talked, his black coat floating with your rain wind. “You’re immediately sentenced into the Cage of Shame till further notice.”

“Well deserved!” Roselle grinned.

Roy smiled at her.

Rosita was expressionless again.

Skylar remained there, but her palms balled after the pronouncement.

—

[Middle Tier – Renee’s Room]

The door is closed. It has been closed since last night, and Renee hasn’t stepped out of the room.

But right now, Quincy stepped out of his own room, looking sickly and frail with pale face and powerless body. No strength. No energy.

It felt like the air was carrying him as he walked, like he wasn’t walking with his own energy.

He’s barefoot.

He stopped in front of Renee’s door for more than five minutes, just staring at the wood chunk.

He raised his knuckles, gently dropping a knock on the door.

No answer.

He knocked again.

“Renee, it’s me.”

No answer.

Tears gushed out of his eyes, and his forehead leaned on the door, palms sliding on the wood surface.

“I’m so sorry, Renee. I’m very sorry. I understand you can’t look me in the eye right now. I know you hate me, but… I’m… I don’t know what to do too. I’m sorry, Renee. Please…”

His tears entered his nose, and he choked on it, coughing sorrow as he leaned his whole body on the door.

Inside the room, Renee sat by the door, arms circling her folded knees, and tears soaking her skin.

She could still feel her brother’s mouth between her legs, and it’s not a memory that’ll be erased by just talks and confrontation.

She can never heal.

And all of this started the moment her foolish brother decided to write that note to Skylar who doesn’t deserve any kindness.

So…

Yes, this is all Quincy’s fault.

She dipped her face in her knees, biting into her kneecap.

—

[City Square]

The Cage of Shame was specifically built in the city square where everyone coming in and going out of the city would witness the shame of anyone thrown inside.

It was built by the joint collaboration of Team Enigma and Dread. The only thing they collaborated on.

A giant gilded cage build on top of a cemented upholder at the city intersection. No escape. No mercy. No pity for whoever gets thrown in.

CAGE OF SHAME was plagued at the top entrance of the cage.

Arturo and Satan basically own this city, so even the government have no actual grip on their deeds.

Skylar was brought in company of Dread Armies. She made no sound as she was thrown in the cage.

She was effortlessly chained while standing. Her two arms raised up, and chains dangling fron the cage top cuffed her wrists. Her ankles were wrapped tightly in thick chains from the floors of the cage.

Chains that weigh more that anyone could carry or control, and they have the ability to dent bones.

Skylar was left inside the cage, and the door wasn’t even locked, meaning anyone can come in and do whatever they want to her. The only thing they can’t do is kill her—that’s forbidden.

It’s still raining, and the surrounding roads are free of cars now, so she’s all alone in the middle of the city—in a open gilded cage, chained and exposed to attack from anyone.

The first visitors she received were Roselle and Roy.

Roy held an umbrella over Roselle’s head, and the whitehead cracked a intentionally loud laughter when she stopped beside the cage.

“Well, well, look who’s drenched in shame now. It’s not me.”

Skylar kept her face straight and her eyes colder than the rainwater.

“Don’t we need to enter and make her bleed a little?” Roy suggested.

“No.” Roselle’s face squeezed. “I’m never entering the Cage of Shame.”

Roy nodded.

“I was already thinking of ways to make you regret threatening me, but look what happened to you. You got a broken shoulder, and a trip to this beautiful cage.” She cackled, crossing her arms over her chest.

“The fun will start tomorrow morning when the rain stops and people start driving and walking by. You’ll get raped in broad daylight, and rogues will force c+ks down your stupid throat. Your as$hole will experience dildos, and your face will be burnt with flames.” She continued.

“Don’t forget the shaving of her head too.” Roy grinned.

“Thanks for reminding me.” Roselle laughed shortly. “But you know what? It doesn’t even have to wait till tommorow. I promise you that tonight, your misery starts. I’ll make sure a little of the rogues locate you tonight. It’ll be my gift.”

“You know what we did to Roy who sent you a note at the Asylum?” Roy added, resting his palm on the cage body with a sly laughter. “Quincy ate Renee out, and she came in his mouth, like a slut.”

“I swear, she came endlessly.” Roselle made nasty faces. “She was such a squirter. Quincy drank it all.”

Since they’ve been talking, they got no reaction from Skylar, but this new information made her look at them.

Roy and Roselle twisted, walking away from the cage with their laughter still resounding mockingly in their cruel throats.

On top of a tree close to one of the intersecting roads, Rosita sat, vaping and staring emptily at the cage.

—

[Enigma House – Arturo’s Office]

Arturo planned to drink with the whole team to celebrate the new glory they attained, but plans changed when he got a reminder on his phone. He left the X Point and came back to his office.

Now he sat behind his desk, staring deep at his phone.

• Marissa’s birthday is in a week.

At every Marisa’s birthday yearly, El Crow loses his shit. He goes batshit crazy because Marissa’s fans like to spread her birthday pictures and memoirs everywhere.

TVs, posters, radios, banners, skyscrapers. They even rally around, screaming her name all-over the city just to show their love.

Marisa’s fans are like a scary cult. They make sure her names stay on the lips of everybody throughout her birthday week, and that’s exactly what runs El Crow mad.

Arturo dropped the phone, and Castle came in.

“You’ve been absent from the celebration, sir,”

“I’ll apologize to the team when I get back. I need few more minutes,” Arturo sounded distressed.

Castle’s eyes turned dimly suspicious. “Is it because of El Crow’s mother upcoming birthday?”

“It’s creepy how you understand me.” Arturo relaxed.

“I know the only thing that makes you restless is this issue. Marisa is El Crow’s most haunting nightmare,” Castle said carefully.

“I’m thinking of asking him to go on a vacation to Florida for two weeks. By the time he comes back, the whole birthday stuff would be over,” Arturo said frustratingly.

“El Crow? Vacation?” Castle raised his brows. “He. Will. Never. Agree. He never agrees, especially now that he beat Skylar. He’s gonna want to shove it down her throat everyday. After Marisa, Skylar is next on his hatred list, and it’s insane.”

“You know what?” Arturo breathed out. “Keep that talk aside for now. Did you find anything out about the special guest earlier?”

“His face remained unseen till he was out. Not even a slight reveal was seen. He’s a mysteriously powerful person, but not to worry, give me few more hours to find out,” Castle said.

“Fine.” Arturo stood. “I trust you. Can we go back to the celebration?”

“I’m not going back to the celebration, sir,” Castle drawled.

Arturo gave him a glance.

“I’m meeting El Crow and the others at your family stable for horse riding,” Castle confessed.

“Horse riding at night?” Arturo laughed slowly. “El Crow is weirdly interesting.”

—

[Acheron Family Stable]

The wealthy stable isn’t very far from the Enigma house. Located at the backwaters of Bourbon street where the only noise is the slams of horse hoofs against the field.

The stable is wide enough for a vainglorious mansion to be built in, but the Acheron family uses all of it to raise their horses.

There are twenty horses here, and their caregivers are already preparing six of them for tonight.

Everyone’s present except Castle and El Crow himself.

“I’ve been thinking of what El Crow’s real name might be,” Kent said seriously. “We already know his surname is Acheron, so what’s the name? James Acheron?”

“Nah.” Blade made faces. “That stitchmouth is too proud for a name like James. “Try Martins Acheron.”

While Blade and Kent argued on the names, Lovato sat on the field, scrolling through her jewelled phone.

She was so into it that she didn’t notice when Bishop took his seat beside her, looking at her phone.

“Princess Charlotte of the British royal family?” He read out.

“You scared me!” Lovato jumped, touching her chest. “When did you even get here?”

“You were so into your phone, reading about Princess Charlotte that you didn’t notice.” He smiled.

“Don’t judge me.” Lovato brightened up. “Princess Charlotte is my actual role model. If I gather enough money with this fighting career in the future, I wanna live like her.”

“She’s not even a real Princess. Wasn’t she adopted after the real Princess died cos the King and Queen couldn’t give birth anymore?” Bishop scoffed.

“I don’t care!” Lovato stood defensively. “Adopted or not, she’s still a Princess, and my role model.”

“And where is the hairpin I gifted you?” Bishop queried.

“Huh?” Lovato touched her hair, searching and blinking. “I didn’t wear it this morning. It’s probably in my room.” She lied smoothly.

Bishop nearly talked again, but that was when El Crow showed up, dressed in his rowdy cowboy style excluding the hat.

He hates that goofy hat.

The air was blowing his fluffy hair as he approached them, making it so messy with his brows and everything.

He looks like he’s just waking from a deep afternoon nap, but the unlit matchstick between his lips made his mood sharpen a notch.

As he approached, Blade and Kent laughed at the other side of the field.

“I can never get used to his walking style.” Blade chuckled.

“He seriously walks like he’s going to fight someone, always,” Kent commented, still laughing.

“He walks like he’s heavy,” Blade added, and their laughter deepened.

“What’s so funny?” El Crow’s face twisted at them.

“They were talking about your mode of walking,” Lovato snitched.

El Crow rolled eyes, sweeping his hair away from his face.

“Did you get yourself treated yet?” Bishop asked. “You and Skylar beat each other to stupor in that ring.”

“I don’t need the treatment.” El Crow strapped his riding gloves on. “The wound will naturally heal before my next match. A different person will enter the ring tommorow.”

“That’ll be me,” Lovato chirped.

“No, I’m entering the ring tommorow with Roselle from Team Dread,” Castle said, joining them.

“Senior Castle!” Lovato went to stand beside him. “You’ll be the one to fight Roselle instead of me?”

“Are you annoyed?” He stroked the wings of his glasses.

“No!” She snapped. “I’ll never get mad at you.”

“Cringe,” El Crow hissed.

“What’s never not cringe to you?” Blade hissed back.

“I was about to say that,” Kent laughed habitually.

“Shall we?” Castle gestured at the horses as the caregivers walked the six out of the stable rooms.

They climbed their horses one by one. El Crow climbed last.

While other horses are black or brown, his is white.

“Anyone heard about Skylar being in the Cage of Shame?” Castle said.

“That’s so cute,” Blade scoffed.

“I can never forget what she did.” Lovato shook her head.

“It’ll always be fresh,” Kent said.

“May she rot in that cage,” Bishop added bitterly.

Castle smiled, but El Crow maintained his silence.

His head is all-over the place with the new development with Roselle.

Marisa
Skylar
Roselle

In that order. He hates these three women, but now he’s developing a soul bond with Roselle?

Jokes.

He looked at the others. They’re all ready to start the ride.

They pulled their horse reins in sync, and their horses galloped down the field at the same time.

—

[Cage of Shame – Midnight]

The rain stopped an hour ago, but the cold didn’t.

Skylar is stuck in place inside the cage, bound by the heavy chains. But she kept her palms rounded.

Those palms have never been unrounded since she stepped into this cage, and her eyes never stopped staring at the dark night.

Not even a single car passed.

Not a single human passed.

She counted the minutes by her own breaths, chest heaving.

Suddenly, two rogues climbed up the cemented upholder of the cage.

They’re rough-looking, smelly, and unappealing. They look like they were cursed by irritating filth.

Seems like Roselle finally sent the people she promised.

They stepped into the open cage, their eyes fixed on her, hungrily skidding through her body.

She might not be voluptuous or curvy, but she’s not dry either. She’s slim, and the little swells appeared in the right places, so she understands their thirst, and she’s ready to make them regret ever coming here.

She might be chained, but she’s confident that she has enough power in her to break these chains.

But things flipped unexpectedly.

Before the rogues could get to her, whistling sound snapped across the cage as an arrow flew inside, sinking into the chest of the first rogue.

The second arrow came instantly, and the metal buried itself inside the chest of the second rogue.

They dropped dead at Skylar’s feet, their blood journeying down the floors with the rainwater puddles.

Skylar’s face whipped up. Her sharp eyes measured the angle where the arrows came from.

It’s from a tree.

Skylar’s chest ignited, but before she could think further, she received another visitor in the cage.

An expected visitor.

She knew he’d come, and he did.

El Crow would not breath properly if he doesn’t come here to mock her tonight, and she probably wouldn’t breathe properly too if she doesn’t throw it at his stomach-turning face that he was only able to defeat her cos of her heartache.

El Crow’s eyes looks lethargic, and hers looks like a disease waiting to strike him where it hurts.

He held his scissors in his left hand. It’s his favorite tool.

Each step closer to her made that memory spark back to life.

[Five Years Ago]

Team Enigma and Team Dread are bloody rivals, but Skylar and El Crow are just bloody ring rivals without a consuming hatred attached to it.

They always end up in a draw whenever they fight. Twenty matches, and still counting.

Satan literally stood on Skylar’s neck, pressuring her to win the 21st match by any means possible, so Skylar took a effective step that night.

She payed a street rogue and made a deal with him.

On the night of the 21st match, the rogue came to the underground too.

Skylar already made her entry, and the underground was roaring as she jumped into the ring, but when El Crow entered the underground, the roars blew up more than before.

The crowd surrounded him in all angle, hailing and chanting his name.

That rowdiness gave the payed rogue the chance to inject him.

He shoved the injection into El Crow’s neck like Skylar instructed him.

The injection was supposed to weaken him during the fight.

In the crowd, El Crow felt the metallic sensation in his neck, but he couldn’t make out what it was till he jumped into the large ring.

At the same time, his bladder opened.

It was uncontrollable—beyond his control. He didn’t even know when he got wet in the ring.

He peed hotly on himself, because…

He was injected with the wrong injection.

The crowd couldn’t hold their loud laughter. The night became a night of El Crow’s mockery across the city.

TBC.
