The Asylum felt like a world apart. A world where you have to measure your breathings as too much of it could thin your lifespan. A world where too much stalling could tear your flesh apart. A dark, cold world of aloneness and blueness.

A small bed frame sat by the corner with no bed on top of it. Just the spirals in the middle and the four metal stands on the floor.

The wall bricks looked smaller than the other walls of this house, and the bricks itself were sweating coldly with the ice embedded in them.

The ceilings were ice too, and the floors another carpet of dry ice.

The small window stayed open, facing the sky.

Skylar stood close to it, staring at the sky—at the birds flying across.

Small, melodious birds. Five of them have flown past now. The sixth one would soon flap it’s wings across.

She blinked once.

The sixth bird never came. Maybe because darkness was starting to swallow the day. Nighttime was starting to drift in.

Her eyes peeled away from the sky eventually, and she got her phone out of her pocket.

It wouldn’t even come on.

Dreads who had been thrown here before often said this place was an exile where electronics didn’t work.

It was programmed that way.

She heard about the ice too, that’s why she swallowed those pills from the secret unlabelled bottle on her room earlier. Those pills should be able to fight the cold from getting too deep into her till midnight.

She moved away from the window, walking to the empty bedframe.

She sat on the spirals, but she got up immediately.

It was complete ice now.

The spirals have gotten iced up too, influenced by the room state.

As she stared at the spirals, her palm went to her chest. The heartache had already stopped, but it’s a no-brainer that it’d soon return.

“Failure to kill your opponent completely means everlasting heartache for you when you wake up in the human world.”

Those were Inferno’s words in Aftermoor, and she completely forgot till she felt the brutal heartache earlier by the hallway door.

Now she understood why El Crow layed low at Aftermoor and didn’t make any move to fight back when she was stabbing him.

He was letting her take all the curse. She was the only one who tried to kill him—the only one who used her dagger to stab him and the one who failed to kill him completely.

The heartache is hers.

She knew the ugly stitchmouth was not to be underestimated, but having his heart on the left?

That was a new level.

Tommorow in the ring, she has to kill him no matter what.

But what if her heartache flared up again and made her lose?

That thought made her kick the bedframe.

The four metal stands slid back, taking the frame to the wall where it violently shattered ice on the floor.

Skylar’s fists rounded, and veins grew around her knuckles.

That can’t happen.

Tommorow, she has to bring him down. She won’t lose.

She brought her phone out again, but it still wouldn’t come on.

And it was at this time she felt the cold creeping under her flesh.

Maybe her pills wouldn’t sustain her till midnight after all.

When she breathed out, her breaths was nearly colder than the room.

“Fuck!” She cussed, taking off her jacket and plugging her nose with it.

Even the jacket felt too cold.

She was still trying to manage the coldness when she saw a small paper sliding in under the small metal door.

Cautiously, she walked there and picked the note up. Written on a yellow paper with a pencil…

• Stay close to any of the four ice walls. The ice is programmed to be less colder when you stay close to it, trust me. I’ve been there before.

Skylar read the note two times. She might not relate with anyone in this team, but she knew everyone and their personalities and what they could do and couldn’t do. She knew every handwriting and voice.

And she immediately recognized the owner of this handwriting.

She cut the paper in two and shoved each of it into her nose to block the iced air, then she wore her jacket back. She went to the first iced wall and stood against it, firmly.

Truly, the cold subsided.

[Dread House – Middle Tier]

This part of the house wasn’t as luxurious as the Top Tier floor where everyone had their privacies.

Here, privacy was nowhere.

The only thing separating them was their one rooms. They have three bathrooms which they all shared at the end of the hall.

Quincy climbed the staircase and picked his room keys out of his pocket as he walked to his room, ready to crash to bed and retire for the day, but getting to his doorstep, he met Roy and Roselle waiting.

One by the side and one by the left like fallen angels ready to execute him. Only the looks in their eyes made him retract one step.

“Where are you coming from?” Roy whispered coldly.

“I didn’t know we now have to report our daily outings to you.” Quincy scoffed boldly.

Roy gave him a rotten smile, and Roselle took over with her arms crossed over her chest.

“Where were you, Quincy?”

Quincy bit himself on the inner cheek, hesitating before talking…

“Warmups…”

“No one in this Tier saw you at warmups, Quincy.” Roy glared. “Now, where the fuck are you coming from? Your punishment lessens if you say the truth now!” He shouted.

The next room door opened, and Renee peeped out.

Seeing what was going on, she rushed out fast, joining.

“Quincy, what’s going on!?”

“Oh the sister is here. Maybe you could persuade your brother to say the truth and set himself free.” Roselle leaned on the door.

“I don’t know what you want me to say!” Quincy snapped.

“You bribed the Armies guarding the Asylum gate, and they let you in. You went in and sent a note to Skylar!” Roy broke the ice angrily.

Quincy’s eyes widened.

“You really thought you’d do anything in this building and I won’t know about it?” Roselle laughed.

“Quincy, you…you did what?” Renee’s mouth formed a circle.

“Skylar is a friend. What’s so wrong in sending her a note?” Quincy retorted, and that was answered by a painfully sharp sound as Roy sent his fist to Quincy’s jaw.

“Stopp!” Renee gasped, lunging at Roy for retaliation.

Quincy also quickly gained his composure and went for Roselle, but it didn’t end well for the siblings.

Renee’s elbow missed Roy by an inch, and Roy took that elbow, slammed it on the wall and brought Renee down.

Quincy’s blow flew past Roselle without meeting her. Roselle dragged the blow back and attached her teeth to Quincy’s knuckles, pulling.

Quincy’s flesh tore into Roselle’s teeth, and screams erupted from Dreads around them as Quincy’s blood flowed from Roselle’s teeth.

Renee’s mouth couldn’t close.

“Quincy!!”

Roselle spat Quincy’s flesh from her teeth to the floor, but her teeth was still so bloody as she laughed out crazily, facing Roy who’s staring at her with great mystification.

“This is fun.” She grinned.

“Told you it’d be.” He grinned back.

Quincy held his bleeding knuckles, yelling out in pains. Renee quickly took off her beanie cap and covered the bleeding wound with it.

“Armies!” Roselle hollered.

Two of them climbed up the staircase.

Each of them grabbed Renee and Quincy respectively.

“Where the hell are you taking us?” Renee requested, skittish.

“Mother ordered me to give you any punishment I dim fit, and I’m going to do just that.” Roselle smiled thinly.

“Move!” Roy ordered.

The Armies dragged the siblings down the staircase, following the lead of Roselle and Roy.

No help came.

No one even pretended to see them.

Whenever Roselle or Rosita misused their authorities like this, no one talked or dared to.

The cleaning woman walked past them at the corridor, but she could only hear and not see.

She focused on her path.

Renee and Quincy were plunged down inside M Sector, and Renee scrambled to her knees quickly.

She rubbed her palms together.

“Please, forgive my brother, and forgive me for trying to fight for him! That’ll never happen again!”

“You really thought you both rookies could take us?” Roy chuckled, getting his gun-shaped lighter out.

He was flicking as he sat on a table.

“Even in twenty years to come, you both will never match up to me or Roselle or even Rosita! If you both could do it, then you’d have left Middle Tiers long ago! Trying to go against us is just death wish.”

“We’re sorry!” Renee continued rubbing her palms together, faster and more desperate. “I know we made a mistake and—”

“You,” Roselle cut in, facing Quincy. “Are you in love with Skylar or something? Sending her a note? What was in the note?”

“It’s none of your business!” Quincy shot with disgust.

“Quincy!” Renee cautioned her brother.

Roselle blinked, then looked at Roy, and they both cracked a deep jestful laughter which made the Sector shake by the walls.

When the laughter stopped, Roselle picked her phone and dialled her mother’s hotline.

“Mother, are you sure I get to give them any punishment I desire?” She asked, blowing air from her mouth to her nails. “Cos now they’re both threatening to cut me to pieces, saying I don’t matter.”

“We never said that!!” Quince shot up, but a kick from Roy brought him back to his knees.

“Shhh,” Roy placed a finger on his lips warningly.

“Anything you wish.” Satan said simply and the call ended.

Roselle faced the siblings.

Her chin was still wet with Quincy’s blood. She looked like a serial killer preparing for her next kill.

“If you’re wearing a panty, Renee..lower it right now or tear it away.” She sighed.

“What are you saying?” Renee’s mind jumped off.

Ignoring her, Roselle faced Quincy.

“Quincy Adams, I want you to eat your sister’s p+sy right here, and now. You can’t stop till she cums in your mouth.” She smiled.

Both Quincy and Renee felt their lungs twisting. They faced each other, then jointly, they screamed out…

“No!!”

“I wish El Crow were here to see what’s about to happen… He’d like it as much as I’d do.” Roselle uttered.

“You said?” Roy asked, not catching what she said.

“Nothing.” She scoffed.

By the top bars of the Sector, Rosita leaned, watching.

She had been here even before Roselle and Roy brought the siblings, and it’s funny how entertainment always found her whenever she was.

She was vaping hotly with a cruel smile on her lips as she awaited what’s going to happen next.

But she didn’t have to wait long as Roy forcefully tore away Renee’s floral panty, threatening to shove a blade into her core if Quincy wouldn’t cooperate and eat.

With tears in his eyes, Quincy went low between her sister’s legs.

He began eating.

“Moan, bitch. Moan!” Roselle slapped Renee in the face.

Roy chuckled harder.

On the top bars, Rosita relaxed.

No Broadway show could beat this particular show in front of her.

[Enigma House – El Crow’s Suite]

At 7pm, El Crow was preparing to go night camping like his habit.

He was packing his stuff into the duffel bag, and at the same time, he glanced at the picture on the wall.

A black and white framed picture of a male, and each glance seemed to get deeper than the last.

He threw the last piece of scaffolding rope in the duffel before straightening, eyes darkening like rain clouds as he stopped glancing and went to full-on staring.

He stared so deep one would think he was communicating with the picture.

His solitude was broken when Castle and Blade came in though.

“I don’t remember calling for backup in this room.” He groaned.

“Your sharp-tongue will never be something to get used to.” Blade rolled his eyes, leaning on the wall.

“You still haven’t brought your bed down?” Castle scoffed, staring at the floating bed. “Till when?”

“Why are you both here?” El Crow turned with an unfriendly glare. “Sure you didn’t journey here to talk about my floating bed.”

“The slim whore you fucked earlier, she’s dead.” Blade said.

“And?” El Crow sounded indifferent.

“Dude, she was on her way home after you f+ked her, but she suddenly just stopped breathing inside the taxi. No sickness or coughs or pants or high temperature. She just freaking dropped dead.” Castle frowned as he explained.

“I’m sorry if I look like a morgue staff,” El Crow sneered. “Are you saying my dick kills people now?”

“You’re so f+king hopeless, Crow.” Blade shifted away from the wall. “Did the After-Death Established sucked away your remaining emotions? Someone died!”

This time, El Crow ignored them completely. He turned back to his duffel and began zipping.

Blade and Castle exchanged frustrated glances.

—

[Lovato’s Suite]

Lovato shut the main door gently, using her card for the extra lock before she stepped out in her biker shorts and cropped singlet.

Surprisingly, she met Bishop waiting by the door already.

“Going for warmups?” He gave her a slanted smile.

“Bishop?” She smiled back. “Yeah, i might not be entering the ring tomorrow, but who knows when Boss Arturo would tell the Matchmaker to put me in the ring again?”

“You’re doing pretty well already, Lovato.” Bishop assured. “Last time you entered the ring with Roy from Dread House, you beat his ass.”

“My next target is Roselle.” Lovato demonstrated by punching the air. “Next time I enter the ring, it must be with Roselle. I can’t stand that smelly thing with a fishy odor p”ssy.”

“How did you know her p”ssy smells fishy?” Bishop laughed.

“Words on the street.” Lovato shrugged. “I follow the news.”

“Of course,” Bishop laughed again, inserting a yellow hairpin in her hair.

She stopped, touched it, and swallowed air. “The newest hairpin at the elite store in this street!?”

“You like it?” Bishop asked, praying in his mind for her to like it.

“Of course!” She beamed. “I was already planning to get it. Thank you, Bishop. You and Kent are the only ones that spoil me with gifts in this place, but Senior Castle and Blade and El Crow? They’re just somehow.”

“I heard someone call my name!” Kent appeared cheerfully.

“Speak of the devil.” Lovato giggled.

“I heard you saying Blade and Senior Castle and El Crow are somehow…” Kent blinked.

“Yeah, especially Senior Castle, he’s always with Boss Arturo, never spending time with us. But El Crow is even worse than Senior Castle. At least, Senior Castle and Blade are caring, but El Crow? He only cares about his cookies and that car of his as if they’re living things. He should have been created as a giant anaconda or black mamba…”

At this point, she looked around to see Kent and Bishop staring at her with interested smiles.

“You both think I’m nitpicking too much?” She muttered.

“No.” Bishop fingered her strands, admiring the hairpin in it. “You’re cute when you’re yapping.”

“Yapping?” She pushed his hand away with a scowl.

“Yeah, yapping.” Kent supported.

“Stay away from me, you both!” Lovato pointed at them and rushed down the staircase.

“Did you see the bettors list for tommorow’s night yet?” Kent asked Bishop quickly.

“No.” Bishop frowned.

“Those who bet on Skylar are more than El Crow for the first time. I think Satan pulled a string. Now if Skylar wins tommorow, Team Dread would take over the streets.” Kent informed.

“What!”

—

[Next Day – Dusk]

It was the last hour of dusk.

6PM on the dot.

Dreads and Enigmas trooped out of their respective houses, heading to the fighting ring in heavy groups, ready for tonight.

Enigmas wore the customized Enigma vest that had TEAM ENIGMA written at the back.

Maroon color.

Dreads wore their brown team vests with TEAM DREAD boldly at the back.

Roselle stood in front of Dread House with Roy beside her, and Dreads rushed past them down the stairs.

“And suddenly, Roy and Roselle became best friends.” Rosita sounded behind them, making them twirl.

Rosita stood with her vape to her mouth, smokes swimming angrily in front of her face.

“I still can’t believe we’re twin sisters.” Roselle commented. “It’s worse that we have the same face and even more annoying that our hair color is the only difference.”

“Calm down, I’m not here to be a bitch again,” Rosita came close. “I totally enjoyed last night’s show. Renee and Quincy? First time I saw a brother eat her sister’s p””sy. Still can’t get the memory off my skull.”

“You don’t get to witness that for free.” Roy chirped in.

Rosita’s palm flew to his face, landing him a resounding slap.

Roy’s hair scattered.

“Remember,” Rosita smirked. “Roselle is the one you get to talk to. She’s your buddy, not me.”

“That didn’t mean you get to slap him!” Roselle yelled.

“You’re Satan’s daughter, you get to throw your weight around, and I am Satan’s daughter too! Don’t let my little praise about how I enjoyed the show get into your head!” Rosita spat.

And that same moment, El Crow came out of Enigma House with all of his gang behind him except Castle who’s with Boss Arturo again.

Roselle turned, and when she sighted him, it felt like it was her first time seeing him. Her heart a picked race.

She grabbed her chest, clutching it.

This wasn’t the painful kind of heartbeats. It was the abnormally fast ones which made her mind spin.

She saw him in a new light. He became even hotter. His tattoos grew darker and sexier. Everything became heightened. Despite their distance, she smelled him.

His scent.

She smelled it madly.

It filled her lungs, flesh, and it corroded her brains.

Her heartbeats came faster.

As El Crow walked, he felt the same. The fast heartbeats. The crazy race in his chest. The seeing her in a new light. Her beauty. Charms, and her scent. He could smell her.

He could f+kin smell her.

He wanted to clutch his chest too, but he managed it till he got to his car.

His gang entered with him.

“You ok?” Blade asked.

“Never been more ok.” El Crow answered, driving them away.

“You good?” Roy asked Roselle.

“Of course.” She breathed in.

—

[Underground Ring]

The ring was located in an abandoned brick warehouse of Bourbon street, hidden behind a rusted loading dock.

The fights took place two floors underground where roar of the crowd never reached the streets above.

And tonight, the roar was more than ever before, majorly because the two rivals who’d be in the ring were the same people who got in an accident three days ago and were rumoured to be in coma only for them to wake up when no one least expected.

Skylar Vox and El Crow.

Every spot in the underground was already filled before 7.

Everyone’s on standby.

Matchmakers, Book markers, medics, bettors, announcers and spectators.

Then the Dread and Enigma team members who took their positions on each side of the empty ring.

Closest to the ring, there’s a black chair with a muslin curtain surrounding it.

The person sitting inside would see the fight going on in the ring, but the crowd would never see who’s inside.

The only visible thing was the shadow of the person, and even the shadow spoke volumes about him.

He’s definitely a person of power—the special guest tonight.

The roar of the crowd grew again.

“Skylar owns the night!!”

“It’s El Crow!!”

“El Crow for life!!”

“Skylar for eternity!!”

The Bosses entered from each side.

Satan with Midnight behind her.

Arturo with Castle behind.

Immediately they took their seats on their appropriate chairs, the Announcer called in tonight’s fighter from each team, and the crowd screams swelled again.

El Crow came in freely, ready in his red shorts only. No shirt.

Skylar entered with her handcuffs from the Asylum, but an Army unlocked the cuffs by the entrance. She wasn’t even allowed to change into her singlet, the signature bandana, and the comfy short leggings. She’ll have to fight fully clothed for the first time.

She entered the ring at the same time as El Crow, and as they stood on different sides of the ring with the announcer between them, their eyes traded darkness with darkness.

Skylar still felt crushed by the cold, but thanks to the information from Quincy, standing by the iced wall lessened the cold, but now she’s not so sure what to predict.

For the first time again, prediction became hard for her.

She could only wait for the results of this fight by herself.

The whistle blew for the start for the fight, and the crowd went silent.

No rules.

The fight would end with a winner whenever any of them fell on the ground for one minute straight without standing.

They came for each other, and for one long minute, it was series of throw and dodge.

Skylar’s punches flew past El Crow’s head like poorly launched bombs, had El Crow’s blows flew past her face too like punctured balloons.

They kept going round in circles, leaving the crowd in suspense.

Arturo’s fingers drummed his armrest, and Satan’s eyes twitched with uncertainty.

The special guest inside the curtain looked bored too.

One could tell by the form his shadow took behind the curtain.

“What’s going on?” Lovato wondered from the Enigmas side.

“I wonder too.” Kent muttered.

Blade and Bishop were quiet.

At the Dreads side, Quincy and Renee weren’t in attendance. Roselle was chewing on her nails anxiously.

Rosita looked too calm, and Roy’s attention was all on Roselle.

Then, at the third minute, it started. The rivals stopped dodging and playing. Seriousness set in.

Skylar slid down with the flight of a perching vulture, and her elbows tackled El Crow’s ankles, sending him forward in a drunk-like stagger, but he came back with a more brutal stagger and intentionally fell on her.

His palm locked around her wrist.

Before he could snap the wrist bone in two, Skylar used her barefoot on his back, stabbing him with her sharp toenails. Blood gushed out of his back, but he retaliated with a crash of his elbow to her tummy.

Skylar’s body swept the ring ground, rolling aside to the thick elastic barricades strings which swung her back to the center.

Before El Crow could slam her head to the black ground, she got up and slammed a punch to the middle of his legs—his c+k.

The pain went straight to his brain, running him crazy. He didn’t slow though. The craziness fueled his next punch to her face, and she staggered, but he didn’t stop after that.

His punches kept coming like unwrapped gifts, slamming her face repeatedly till her nose and mouth bled into each other.

Seeing her blood, his head tingled with unhinged excitement, and he slammed another round of killer punches to her bloody face.

By now, the underground was roaring with the scream of El Crow’s name.

Arturo and Castle were smiling, but Satan and Midnight looked locked.

El Crow’s punch crashed into Skylar’s face again, and she bursted into a sudden cutthroat laughter which made the smug look on El Crow’s face vanish.

“You’re so fucking funny, Chucky doll.” Her laughter became eerie.

She turned things around when she plucked off the barricade string with a pull so perfect.

Everyone on their seats stood, and the cheers stopped when she wrapped the rope around El Crow’s neck, using the leash to swing him away from the ring completely.

El Crow landed in the middle of the crowd, far from the ring.

Eyes widened.

How was Skylar able to pull off that rope?

No human being would be able to pull those heavy strings.

But their shock was only just starting.

El Crow jumped from that ground, back into the ring.

He didn’t walk.

He didn’t leap.

He jumped over the tall barricades and landed in the ring with a force that’s not ordinary.

Skylar’s kick met his face, and her body went round, arm circling his neck and slamming his head against the corner metal of the ring.

El Crow’s blood dripped.

“That bi+ch.” Roselle muttered.

Now, the special guest looked so much entertained in the curtain. His shadow showed how he was now sipping from a glass of wine.

Satan glanced at the curtain, seeing he’s enjoying himself, she looked away satisfactorily.

This special guest staked the highest amount on Skylar’s performance tonight.

El Crow wriggled free from Skylar, grinning with a bloody face before going for Skylar.

Skylar came at him with a nod, but he dissolved it, landing her a punch to the side of her neck, another one to the back of her neck, and the third one to her throat in the front.

Skylar spat hot blood to his face.

El Crow darted his big tongue out to lick some of her blood on his face, laughing spookily. “Your blood is sweet, Skylar. Did you know?”

He licked again.

With sporadic force, Skylar came for him with a sharp knuckle ring aimed towards his Adam’s apple for the finishing move, but before she could get to use the sharp ring, her chest caught unquenchable fire.

Her heart quaked mercilessly under her ribcage with unbearable pain, weakening her.

El Crow didn’t wait.

He grabbed her left shoulder.

Almost immediately, a sickening crack sound erupted…

From her shoulder.

He broke it.

He broke her shoulder.

TBC.
