“You caused everything, now she is gone and we don’t know her whereabouts.” I said to my husband as he smoked Tobacco.
“So now you blaming me? She chose to be useless, that’s not my fault. She wants to keep her life stagnant because of a dead man. What did you expect me to do?” He asked.
” At least, you would have pressurized her to marry who she haven’t seen. She can make decisions herself.” I said and he sighed.
” Don’t you get it? Her decision is to stay single waiting for that boy.” He said in anger standing up making me flinch.
“What do we do now? We don’t know where she is. She could be in danger. We both know she isn’t used to the life out there.” I said sadly.
” That is what would make her come back. When she suffers out there she would learn to listen to me.” He said walking out.
” Why are you do cruel? She is the only daughter I have.” I said in a teary tone. He looked at me for some seconds before finally walking out of the room.
I sighed and sat on the bee picking up my phone.
“I pray she doesn’t ignore my calls. I hope she is fine.” I thought dialing her number.
It began to ring and I prayed silently for her to pick up. If she doesn’t, I don’t know what will happen to me. I won’t be able to think straight.
It stopped ringing and I held my phone in my hand weakly as tears dropped my eyes.
“Sandra please pick up.” I thought dialing it again and this time around she picked up when it was almost getting disconnected.
Sandra.
. Mother
Omg, how are you? Are you okay?
Am good mother. And you?
am not Sandra. Where are you? Why did you go out without saying anything? Do you want to kill me?
Mother I needed to. And I am fine don’t worry.
Where are you? I will come pick you up.
That won’t happen. I ain’t coming into that house again. I am old enough, I can live on my own now.
Sandra I know your father is annoying. But please come home for my sake.
No mother I ain’t coming back.
Okay where are you? So I can come visiting.
Don’t worry about that. We can talk on phone. I don’t want anyone Knowing where I am. I don’t want disturbance.
Sandra.
Bye mother.
She hung up and I dropped the phone in sadness. Will he ever listen to me? He is just so stone-hearted. Now his daughter hates him.
SANDRA
I hung up and I breathed out loud walking to the kitchen. I dropped the bowl I used to take some cereal and walked back to the living room.
They need to understand that I am old enough to make my own decisions. I can’t keep doing all what they want me to do.
They aren’t the ones getting married and won’t be the one in the marriage.
Tch.
I sat on the couch and wanted to continue watching the movie I was watching when the lights began to fluctuate.
“What’s going on?” I asked in fear looking around and after some seconds of that it stopped and everywhere became dark.
I reached for my phone and put on the torch light.
I rushed out of the room and the first person that came to my mind was Mr Hottie.
I knocked on his door calmly trying not to fidget in his presence.
“Who is it?” I heard him ask from inside the house.
“Sandra.” I said anxiously.
“Sandra?” He asked opening up. I looked at him and sighed in relieve.
Thank God he isn’t shirtless this time around.
“Am so sorry to disturb.” I said looking at him.
“It’s okay Sandra?” He asked and I nodded smiling.
” Yeah thanks. Actually the power went off in my apartment, and I don’t know what’s wrong. Did it happen in yours too?” I asked and he shook his head.
” Not at all. I can help you check it out. It maybe a cut or so.” He said and I nodded happily.
” Yes sure. I will be so happy if you can help.” I said and he smiled.
” Okay. I will just get my glove and I will be back soon.” He said and walked back leaving his door open. I peeped into his apartment trying to catch a glimpse of how it looked.
“Got ya.” I heard him say from inside making me step back.
“Let’s go.” He said and I nodded smiling as I led the way.
