The next morning, they sat at the dining table, eating breakfast. Sofia avoided eye contact with Shawn, her eyes cast downward. Rachel frowned, sensing the tension between them.

Rachel picked up an egg with her fork and pointed it towards Shawn. “Come on, babe, open up,” she said, smiling.

Shawn hesitated, then opened his mouth. Rachel shoved the egg into his mouth, and Shawn chewed, his eyes fixed on Sofia.

“You look cute with your mouth moving gently,” Rachel teased, her eyes sparkling with amusement.

Sofia’s face turned pink, and she stood up abruptly. “Um, excuse me,” she said, grabbing her phone and rushing upstairs to her room.

“Where are you going? You haven’t finished your food,” Shawn said, looking concerned

“I am full already,” She replied, not looking back.

Shawn stared after her, his eyes still fixed on the stairs. Rachel placed a hand on his arm. “Come on, don’t worry about her,” she said, smiling reassuringly.

Shawn sighed, his eyes still fixed on the stairs.

Later that day, Sofia sat alone by the pool, reading a book. Rachel walked over, holding a plate of fruit salad.

“Hey,” Sofia said, sitting upright and smiling.

Rachel sat down next to her. “I brought you some fruits,” she said, offering the plate.

her eyes lit up. “Thank you, but you shouldn’t have.”

“Come on, it’s the little I can do.”She smiled. They shared a warm smile. “So, how’s it going with school? I heard you guys are on holiday,” She asked.

Sofia nodded, taking a bite of the fruit salad. “Yes.”

She sighed. “That’s good. So, tell me, Sofia, don’t get offended by what I want to say.”

“Sure, no problem.” She said curiously.

“Who is Shawn to you right now? I know how you ended up in his house.”her eyes locked onto Sofia’s. Sofia’s face scrunched up in confusion. “I just want to know the relationship between you two,” Rachel added.

“There is no relationship between us like the way you’re thinking. Shawn is my guardian.” She said making it clear to her.

“Just a guardian? No string attached?” She asked, her eyes narrowing slightly with curiosity.

Sofia’s expression turned matter-of-fact. “Don’t get it wrong, there is nothing going on between us. Besides, I don’t see him like that. He’s yours anyway.”

Rachel’s face lit up with a smile, her eyes sparkling with relief. “Okay, I just want to be sure. You know I love him so much. I really didn’t want him to slip off my hand.”

Sofia nodded, looking calm”I know.” She returned to her book, and Rachel looked at her with a smirk, her eyes glinting with amusement.

Later that evening, Shawn walked into the dining room, where Rachel was setting the table with the help of the workers. Sofia was nowhere to be seen.

“Where is Sofia?” he asked, his eyes scanning the room.

Rachel turned to him, a hint of a smile on her face. “Probably in her room. She hasn’t stepped out since noon.”

His brow furrowed slightly. “Isn’t she joining us for dinner?”

Rachel’s expression turned nonchalant. “I called her before, and she said she wasn’t hungry.”

He sighed, his eyes narrowing slightly as he headed back to Sofia’s room.

Meanwhile, Sofia was in her room, having a phone call with Mabel. “Well, I can’t wait either. Staying at home doing nothing is boring,” she said, laughing. Just then, someone knocked on the door. “Talk to you later, someone’s at the door,” She  said, hanging up the phone.

She got up to open the door, and her eyes widened in surprise when she saw Shawn standing there. “Shawn, you’re back,” she said, smiling.

Shawn’s expression turned concerned. “Why aren’t you joining us for dinner?”

Her face turned sheepish. “Um, dinner… I totally forgot about that.”

His eyes narrowed slightly. “Rachel told me you said you weren’t hungry.”

Her expression turned confused, her eyes furrowing slightly. “Um, yeah… just give me a second. I’ll join you guys.”

“Go in. I’ll wait here for you.”

Sofia nodded and returned to her room. She put on her slippers, grabbed her phone from the bed, and then left with Shawn.

As they walked downstairs, Rachel looked up and saw them coming. A frown curved her face, her eyes narrowing slightly as she sensed the connection between Shawn and Sofia.

“Oh, Sofia, you changed your mind?” she asked, smiling forcedly.

Sofia nodded, and they sat down to eat, the tension between them palpable.

As they continued eating, Rachel spoke up, breaking the silent mood. “So, Sofia, did you resign from your job? I haven’t seen you go out of this house since I came,” she said, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

Shawn’s expression turned confused, while Sofia’s eyes widened in surprise, her face pale. “What job are you talking about?” Shawn asked, his brow furrowed.

Rachel’s smile grew wider. “Sofia’s job, I overheard Mabel talking to V if he can help you with a job vacancy,” she said, her eyes glinting with amusement.

Sofia’s eyes darted to Shawn, her face guilty. She gulped nervously, avoiding Shawn’s gaze. “Is that true? You went working behind my back? Was that the reason why you told me to stop a guard from following you to school?” Shawn asked, his voice unfriendly, his eyes narrowing.

Sofia’s face turned pink, and she looked down, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’m sorry, I was just trying to gather some money for myself, so I won’t be indebted to you.”

Rachel’s smile grew wider, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she watched Shawn’s angry reaction.

“When did all these happen?” Shawn asked, his voice rising in anger.

Sofia’s voice trembled. “After the guard stopped following me to school, I got a job at a restaurant. I only worked a week, and I stopped.”

Rachel’s eyes locked onto Sofia’s. “Why did you stop? Was it stressful?”

Sofia’s face turned pale, and she remained silent.

Shawn’s expression turned harsh. “You lied to me. You know what I hate the most is a lie. Do you think working to make ends meet will make you pay all the debt your family owes me?” Sofia’s eyes welled up with tears as Shawn’s words cut deep. “No matter how many years you will have to work, you will never be able to pay back. You are mine now, and there is no turning back for you. Your family sold you out to me, you are with me, and you must abide by my rules,” he said harshly.

Sofia’s face crumpled, and she lowered her face to the ground, hurt by his words. Rachel’s expression turned calm, her voice soothing. “Come on, Shawn, don’t be too harsh on her. She’s still a little girl. I thought you knew about it.”

Sofia’s voice trembled. “I’m sorry, I promise it won’t happen again,” she said sadly, her eyes welling up with tears.

“If this happens again and I found out about it, I won’t hold back next time,” Shawn warned, his expression stern. He stood up to leave, his eyes flashing with anger.

“Where are you going?” Rachel asked, her brow furrowed with concern.

Shawn ignored her and left for his room, his footsteps echoing through the hallway.

Rachel sighed. She smirked at Sofia before making an innocent face. “Don’t take what he said to you too hard, he’s just angry that you lied to him. I’m sure he’ll come around,” she said, her voice dripping with sweetness.

Sofia nodded, her eyes cast downward. Rachel added, “I’m sorry I spilled it out, I didn’t mean to. Please forgive me.” Sofia nodded again, and Rachel smiled, her eyes glinting with triumph.

The next morning, Shawn came out of his room, dressed up to leave. His eyes met Sofia’s as she emerged from her room.

“Good morning,” she greeted, her voice soft.

Shawn nodded slightly, his expression still stern, and walked away. Sofia sighed sadly, her eyes following him.

As Shawn came down the staircase, he paused, his eyes catching sight of a familiar figure rolling his wheelchair into the house. Sly, accompanied by his men and some lawsuit agents and high authorities in the city, looked determined.

Rachel came out of the kitchen, looking surprised, while Sofia’s eyes widened in shock. She took a step back, her face pale.

Sly’s eyes locked onto Sofia, his expression cold and calculating. “Ah, Sofia. We meet again,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.

The air was thick with tension as Sly’s men and the lawsuit agents moved forward, their faces stern. Rachel’s eyes narrowed, her expression guarded, while Shawn’s eyes flashed with anger.

Sofia’s eyes darted between Sly and Shawn, her heart racing with fear. She knew that this time, things wouldn’t go well.
