 NONYE

Nonye – Episode 8

Amah’s Heart
‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡‡
It was a look of intensity, of possession, that made me feel like I was trapped in his gaze.
“Sorry, who are you?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
“My name is Victor,” he replied, his voice low and smooth. “And you are…?”
“Nonye,” I said, feeling a sense of trepidation.
Victor’s eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if he could see right through me. I felt a shiver run down my spine as he took a step closer to me.
“You’re in danger, Nonye,” he said, his voice low and urgent. “That guy you were just with, he’s not what he seems. He’s involved in some very bad things.”
I felt a surge of fear as I realized the truth. I had been so blind, so naive.
“I know, thank you, what do you want from me?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Victor’s eyes seemed to gleam with a hint of amusement. “I want to help you,” he said. “I want to keep you safe.”
But as I looked into his eyes, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that he was hiding something from me. That he had his own motives for wanting to help me.
And then, I heard a faint whisper in my ear. “Don’t trust him, Nonye. He’s not what he seems.”
I spun around, but there was no one there. The whisper seemed to come from all around me, echoing off the walls.
I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized that I was trapped in a web of deceit and danger. And I didn’t know who to trust.
I spun around, trying to see who had whispered in my ear, but there was no one there. The whisper seemed to come from all around me, echoing off the walls.
Victor’s eyes narrowed, his gaze scanning the area. “What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice low and urgent.
I hesitated, unsure of what to say. Had I really heard that whisper, or was it just my imagination playing tricks on me?
“I…I thought I heard something,” I stammered.
Victor’s eyes seemed to bore into my soul, as if he could see right through me. “What did you hear?” he asked, his voice firm but gentle.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart. “I heard a whisper,” I said, my voice barely above a whisper. “It said…it said not to trust you.”
Victor’s expression didn’t change, but I saw a flicker of something in his eyes. Something that looked almost like amusement.
“I see,” he said, his voice neutral. “And do you believe what the whisper said?”
I hesitated, unsure of what to say. Part of me wanted to trust Victor, to believe that he was genuinely trying to help me. But another part of me was screaming to be cautious, not to trust anyone.
“I…I don’t know,” I stammered.
“Well, Nonye,” he said, his voice low and smooth. “I suppose you’ll just have to wait and see as I couldn’t tell you if the voice was right or wrong but I believe you will get to know later……do take care and stay safe”. And with that, he turned and walked away, leaving me feeling more confused and uncertain than ever.
I watched as Victor walked away, feeling a mix of emotions. part of me was relieved to be rid of him, but another part of me was curious about what he had meant by his enigmatic words.
As I stood there, trying to make sense of everything, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching. I turned to see one of my classmates, a girl named Ada, walking towards me.
“Hey, Nonye,” she said, her eyes scanning my face. “What’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
I hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But something about Ada’s kind face put me at ease.
“I just had a weird encounter with someone,” I said, trying to downplay the situation.
Ada’s eyes narrowed. “What kind of encounter?” she asked, her voice firm.
I took a deep breath and told her everything – about the guy who had been stalking me, about Victor’s mysterious intervention, and about the whisper that had seemed to come from nowhere.
Ada listened intently, her expression growing more and more serious.
“Nonye, you need to be careful,” she said, her voice low and urgent. “There are some really bad people on this campus, and it sounds like you’ve attracted their attention.”
I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized the truth. I was in grave danger, and I didn’t know who to trust.
“What can I do?” I asked, feeling a sense of desperation.
Ada’s eyes seemed to gleam with determination. “We’ll figure something out,” she said. “But for now, let’s just get you to a safe place.”
And with that, she took my arm and led me away from the lecture theater, away from the danger that lurked in every shadow.
