“Valerie!! Valerie!!” I hear master’s voice from downstairs.
“Master, in your room!” I replied.
I don’t know if Master flew past the stairs…but he made it to their room within seconds.
He pushed me aside and holds mistress in his arms.
“What the fuvk happened?! Why did she passed out?! And why is she bleeding?!” Master asked anxiously.
“I..I don’t know….I just came in and saw her lying on the ground!”
He turned to me and glared harshly at me….I cower from his cold glare…..his glared held mixed emotions but fear outshines all others.
“I left her under your care and you’re saying you don’t know what happened to her?! Are you tired of living?!” He roared.
I simply bowed my head, too scared to look him in the eyes.
“Boss…. it’s best we save boss lady first” Chris said…..I didn’t even know he was inside the room too.
Master got up with mistress in his arms and bumped his shoulder against mine and rushed downstairs.
“Chris! You’re driving!” Master said.
“Yes, boss!” Chris replied.
He turns to me and saw my sad expression, he gave me a brief hug and kisses my forehead.
“Don’t worry too much, boss lady will be fine”
His words didn’t encourage….they can’t stop me from worrying. If anything happens to mistress, master will have my head.
“Can I come with you to the hospital?”
He stays silent for a few seconds, then we heard master yelled from outside….he quickly nods and grab my hand and we head out.

The drive to the hospital was fast and short….four nurses rushed towards us and carried mistress away on a stretcher.
“Pray to whatever thing you worship that nothing should happen to Catherine….or I swear, I’ll send you to your maker!!” He roared in my face.
It’s my fault, I shouldn’t have listened to mistress…..I should’ve called master immediately I felt her temperature went up.
It’s all my fault….. Lord please save my mistress, let her be alright… I prayed silently.
Chris comes to my side, he throws his arm around my shoulder and hug me to himself.
“She’ll be fine” he told me.
I nod. I really hope and pray so.
Master keeps pacing back and forth in front of the ward…. sometimes peeping through the door to see what’s going on inside.
Honestly, I have never seen master this worried before…. I can tell he’s refraining himself from going inside and yell at the doctor.
“Let me talk to boss” Chris said, I nod and he walked towards Master.
“Boss, how about you sit down for a while?” He suggests calmly.
“No, I’m good!” Master replies.
“Boss, just for two minutes” he urge Master.
Master sighed and listen to Chris and sat down.
After so much waiting, the doctor finally came out.
“Family of Miss Catherine?” She called…. More like asked.
Master got up and rushed towards her…. the doctor.
“It’s Mrs Catherine… I’m her husband. How is my wife doing?!”
The doctor nods and sighed.
“She’s fine… she only passed out due fatigue. We’ve given her some glucose so she can have some energy”
“So, is she awake now?!” Master asked.
“She’s out of danger but she’s asleep!”
I closed my eyes and inhale deeply, then exhale softly…. Thank God she is safe.
“But doctor, she was bleeding…. Why was she bleeding?” Master asked.
Yeah, I almost forgot about the blood.
“Oh! I found out she haven’t eaten for the past 29hours…. Mr Madden, starvation is not good for her condition, please make sure to feed her in time”
I stilled…. Condition?
“Condition?!” Boss asked the same question.
“Yes” the doctor looked at our confused expressions. “Don’t tell me you don’t know her condition”
“I don’t know…. What condition?” Master asked again.
“Mr Madden… Please come with me to my office”
“Ok!”
Could it be mistress have a strange illness? I need to see her.
“Doctor, can I see her?” I asked.
“Yes, but she’s still sleeping as she needs a long rest… please don’t disturb her”
“Thank you, doctor!”
Master called chris. “Stay with them and wait for me!”
“Yes, boss”
“Mr Madden, this way please”
Master and the doctor head somewhere, while I rushed into the ward.

In the doctor’s office….
I watched the doctor as she reads through the clipboard in her hands.
“Mr Madden…your wife passed out due to stress and starvation, which is very bad for her health now”
“You said something about her condition…. What’s her condition?”
She stared at me for a few minutes.
“Your wife is pregnant!”
“Pregnant?!” I exclaimed.
“Yes… She’s 19days gone already”
Catherine is pregnant? I don’t know how to feel right now… Wether to be happy… sad…. or angry, I don’t know.
I mean kids are blessings but ours came at the wrong time.
“Mr Madden?”
I gave the doctor my attention and she continues speaking.
“Mr madden, you need to pay extra attention to your wife now, make sure she eats at the right time…..the fetus is still too fragile it need extra care….take today incident for example, she almost lost the baby because it couldn’t stand the stress, but thank God we managed to save it”
I nod. “Thank you, doctor!”
She smiled. “It’s my duty….but please make sure this doesn’t happen again or I’m afraid there’s nothing we can do about it later” she advised.
I nod and got up, I shake hands with her and head out.
This is the only time I ever really felt fear….I don’t fear anything, in fact I don’t fear death.
But today seeing Catherine lying on the floor with blood…my own blood ran cold and I feel my heart hurting and breathing fast.
I couldn’t protect Catherine…no, I’m still trying to protect Catherine, now she’s pregnant
..will I be able to protect my wife and kid?
What if something happens and the baby gets hurt along the line……having a baby is something I haven’t thought about.
Will I even make a good father? And Catherine, I don’t know if she’s ready to be a mother yet!
This is messed up!

I hold mistress’s hand and sob.
“Mistress, please forgive me…. it’s my fault that you fainted, I should have been more at alert…. please forgive me mistress…I’m sorry”
“That’s enough Val, the doctor said she’s fine and she’ll wake up soon” Chris said.
I know he’s trying to cheer me up….but I still want my mistress to open her eyes and say she forgives me.
“Even if she’s fine…she was brought here because of my careless”
He sighed. “Stop blaming yourself, listen, there are some events in life that we can’t predict…or seem to avoid and stop them from happening” he paused. “So, boss lady would have fainted have you not being there….it was bound to happen”
I smiled weakly….just then master comes in. He doesn’t look sad or angry…I really can’t tell his expression right now. But then again that’s how he’s always kept his face all day long.
“Boss!” Chris whisper.
Master didn’t say a word, he simply sat on the couch next to mistress’s bed….. staring at her.
I turned to Chris. “Could it be mistress’s condition is very bad?!” I whisper to him.
“I don’t know…..” He trails off
We both stared at Master….. contemplating wether to ask him what’s wrong or not.
“We’re going home when she wakes up” master finally speaks.
Huh? I thought we’d spend some time in the hospital and let the doctor examine mistress one more time.
“Aren’t we gonna let the doctor check her one more time, boss” Chris asked.
Master shakes his head.
“She’s fine!”
“What about her condition? What did the doctor say, Master?” I blurt out.
Master raised his head and stared at me, I quickly slap my hand on my mouth.
“I’ll tell you guys back in the mansion!” He said firmly….like leaving no room for arguments.
We stayed in silence…. Master leans back on the couch and rubs his face with his palm.
“Alright, boss!”
“Valerie, you’ll accompany me cook something for your mistress later!” He commands.
“Yes, Master!!”
