The K1ller’s Knife – Episode 3
My heart was racing fast as I prayed vehemently that it should not be father.
if it is him, then with father’s bad temper I will be dëåd for sure.
How would I even start explaining what I am doing in his room in the first place? I thought as I heard the footsteps drawing nearer to my hiding place.
A hand was slowly pulling the wardrobe open and I shut my eyes whilst resigning myself to fate.
“Jacob..?” I heard Erica’s small voice and I breathed a sigh of relief as it feels like a heavy load has being lifted off my chest. It is my youngest sister.
Why is she even here? Did mother send her on an errand? All the same, I said a short prayer in my heart thanking God that it wasn’t father or mother.
I opened my eyes only to be greeted by Erica’s eyes piercing into mine.
Father’s clothes that were my shield had been shifted to one side. I also saw the money that fell to the floor in her right hand.
” What are you doing in father’s room Jacob…? And why was Father’s money on the floor…?” Erica asked looking at me accusingly.
She is the youngest, yet she is too smart and mentally alert for a girl of her age
I didn’t want to take any more risks and knowing how inquisitive my sister can be, I know answering her first question would only lead to more questions, and in the process mother or father might come in and I will be caught definitely.
” I will answer your question but please lets go out first Erica. It won’t be pleasant if father is to come in here and meet us like this” I said as I moved out of the wardrobe. I made sure the clothes were rearranged at its exact previous position before closing the wardrobe.
After I was done making sure I left no clues to expose my presence in the room, I dragged Erica by the hand and together we quietly left the room, noiselessly closing the door behind us.
Erica was wriggling and trying to free herself from my grip on her left hand but I paid no heed until I reached the backyard where I was sure no one was going to hear us. Mother rarely comes out here except she wants to cook.
” Shuuu… be quiet Erica. Must you be a busy body every time and everywhere…?” I said with a slightly raised voice as soon as we stopped walking and I let go of Erica’s hand.
” Is that why you want to break my hand..? I will tell mother that I was looking for you to complete my assignment for me but I caught you in father’s room with father’s money on the floor. I will also tell her that you dragged my hand and now it is paining me” Erica said with her eyes already becoming teary and my heart softened.
” I’m sorry Erica. I promise I will massage your hand for you but please don’t tell mother and Father anything. You know how father is…he will surely beat me and give me plenty of wounds on my body. Is that what you want…?” I said twitching my face sorrowfully in a bid to gain her sympathy.
I was playing mind games on her young mind fully aware that she cannot bear to see her elder brother get hurt. I know it is wrong but I have no other choice.
Erica shook her head vigorously indicating a No, which shows that my mind tricks are actually working.
” I don’t want Father to punish you but what you were doing is bad. Already mother taught us that it is bad to steal. She said it is a sin against God but yet you were stealing father’s money. Why brother Jacob…?” Erica asked with her eyes intently fixed on me. Her innocence is admirable and makes me feel guilty for my actions.
I heaved heavily and I stretched my right hand towards Erica
” Drop the money here Erica. I will return it back to the place I took it from. I wanted to use it to pay for my school fees since father wasn’t giving it to mother but you’re right. It is wrong to steal so I will return it back” I said urging Erica to release the money to me.
Erica’s face lit up as she delightedly handed the money to me. If only she knew that I had no actual intention to return it back, then she won’t be this excited. Anyways, father has plenty of money so I doubt he will even notice what is missing from it.
“…..just promise me that you will not tell father, mother, and Angie anything that happened please..” I asked and Erica nodded but I wasn’t still convinced
” …pinky promise…?” I pressed some more to be sure that she won’t talk
” Yes Jacob. I pinky promise you that I will not tell anybody anything” Erica said as she held her mouth shut with her two fingers and I giggled at her childish behavior.
Sadly, our happy moment was cut short when we heard mother’s loud terrifying scream
We both rushed inside to know what was happening and there father’s was mounted on her, punching and hitting her like a bag of vegetable.
I was already scared thinking that father has already discovered the missing money and accused mother of stealing but it wasn’t so.
Mother tries to get away but father was too strong for her
“You dares not challenge my orders in this house Felicia, who are you to counter my command..”
“…I will teach you another bitter lesson today maybe you forgets so soon how it used to be for you, this will serve as a reminder, føølish woman…”
I stood helpless, i saw my two sisters crying and begging father but he cúrsed and scoffed at them
Barking like an ângry dog which got them more scared.
I couldn’t watch and do nothing, I rushed to drag mother away from father, but that was one greatest mistake because father sent me crashing hard on the wall, just with one blow.
I hit my head hard on the concrete wall and it was an instant blackout but I recovered almost immediately
I almost loose my consciousness due to the hard blow.
Erica rushed to my side, I realized I was already bleeding
I managed to get up but I staggered a little I had to hold onto something
Father can’t continue getting away with this
He treats Flora, his mistress like gold but trashes mother with every given opportunity he got.
I don’t know what brought about today’s trouble upon mother but I’m sure it’s either mother trying to object to something that doesn’t sit well with her or her kids or she turning down father’s selfish orders
She always gets beaten up but she dares not mention it out and speak about it to anyone.
Despite all of this she has never misbehaved or try to leave father
I sometimes wonder the kind of love she has for this bùlly of a husband that will make her continuesly to take his excesses.
Something needs to be done before he finally k!lls her
The funny thing is that he doesn’t even value mother or acknowledge her as his wife and mother to his children.
He sees her like a servant that must obey his every command and orders without a flinch or protest.
I was searching around and thinking of what to do, I couldn’t come up with any idea
But all of a sudden my eyes caught something dreadful which left me standing rooted at a spot as I felt goosebumps all over my body.
Oh no, please tell me this isn’t happening..?
