” Jacob it was your…” Mother was about telling me who it was when Father interposed and cut short mother’s words
Mother and I were surprised to see him since we weren’t expecting him to be home so early. Normally, he do come home very late into the night.
Back then Mother used to wonder what was always keeping him that late after the close of work, but I suppose she knows the answer today.
” So it has now gotten to the point of you two gossiping about me in my absence…?” Father uttered eyeing us scornfully.
From all indications, he heard some of our discussions and he was ángered but was just trying to keep it under control.
“…well I’m not even surprised…like mother like son. Two us£less people!”
I heaved as father who was by the door, walked close to where we were and stood in front of us. He hissed loudly and looked at mother mockingly
” You want to tell your son the truth right…? Then don’t waste your saliva! I will help you tell him…after all there’s nothing you or anyone can do to me!”
After saying this, he turned to me with a stern looking face and told me without mincing words
” Your mother is very correct Jacob. I’ve ch£ated on her more than once because we men are polygamous in nature. You’re still a child so you will not really understand but I’ll tell you regardless. The truth is that it is very impossible for me as a man to be eating one kind of soup all the time!” father said shamelessly and with my young mind I found his words difficult to understand
Mother was just quietly looking at father as he continued talking without a care
“…I mean if her father; your grandfather can marry and be sleeping with four different women. Tell me why I can’t marry or sleep with whoever I choose…?” Father asked rhetorically
” Father who is the person you cheated on mother with…?” I asked curiously
Father laughed before shamelessly telling me how he first ch£ated with one of mother’s stepmothers.
He went on to tell me how he solicited s€x from mother’s only bestfriend in the past, which had stopped mother from keeping close female friends till date.
Father said these words with so much confidence and without respect for mother who was there with us. And from the smile on his face, it’s quite obvious that he isn’t bothered nor does he feel remorseful of his past deeds.
I found all what he has done to mother very disgusting and humiliating. Father just keeps pushing us beyond our limits.
Unexpectedly, mother sprang up and for the first time I saw fire in her eyes as she stood to confront father. I was feeling scared for her because I know what is going to come next after all this is over.
” Sh@meless man! So you are proud of the fact that you slept with your father in-law’s third wife on your son’s tenth birthday….? Jamie because of what you did to my father…he banned us all from ever coming to his house again!” Mother exclaimed stomping her feet on the floor
I was shocked to hear that from mother. It then began to make sense why I never saw my maternal grandfather again after my 10th birthday celebration. I was grandfather’s favorite, so on that day he had thrown a small party for me at his house to celebrate my new age.
I noticed after that day that whenever Erica, Angie and I requested to go visit grandfather, mother kept making up excuses to cancel the visits.
So this was all the reason for it…? Father had slept with stepmother Katsy on that day…? Just wow!
Mother continued her outburst of aπger and her voice became very loud that it was echoing in the sitting room
“…you still remained an unrepentant ch€at by pursuing my friend Hannah. I forgave you and I thought you were a changed man…only to find out now that you’ve been sleeping with flora…? Have you no shame at all Jamie…?”
Father chuckled as though what mother said and asked didn’t bother him at all.
” Common Felicia…why should I have shame because I’m expressing the polygamous side of a man…? Or is it written on my birth certificate that I am tied and smitten with one woman…?”
His reply further infuriated mother the more and she behaved in a way I have never seen before.
I’m sure even father never saw it coming because he was accustomed to only seeing mother’s meek side.
Mother gave father a heavy sl@p and as if that wasn’t enough she stomped into the kitchen and picked a pestle. She dashed out and before father could dodge the attâck, mother h¡t him hard behind his head.
Father shouted as his head began to bl££d and bløød was dripping out from the woμnd there. I am even surprised he could still stand strong without fainting.
He looked threateningly at mother with his left hand pointed directly at her face
” You dare to h¡t me Felicia…? So you’ve now grown enough wings to challenge me in my own house…? I’ll show you who is the man of this house today!” Father blurted out as he dashed inside the door that led to the bedrooms.
The next thing I saw was father coming out with mother’s bags which contained her belongings. He pulled open the sitting room door and carelessly threw them outside to the ground.
Everything was just happening so fast and this wasn’t how I thought it was going to be. I had expected father to beat mother up as he usually does but certainly not to send her packing.
” You’re leaving my house today! I was even considerate enough to allow you to stay until when I’m ready to marry Flora and bring her in as my wife but you dare to h¡t me…? you are staying no more Felicia. Leave! get out of my home!” Father thundered as he continued throwing mother’s things out one after the other
” Jamie please…I’m sorry..it was a mistake…I don’t know what came over me. Please don’t break our fifteen years old marriage like this… please…” Mother was pleading whilst going on her knees beside her bags that were outside.
Our neighbors were outside and they were watching the whole drama playing out. It was so embarrassing for mother who was crying terribly already.
Feeling pity for mother, I equally had to join her to beg father on my knees.
” Father please…mother is sorry for what she did…have mercy on her… father please…don’t do this to her”
None of our words of plea touched father. He threw the last bag out of the door before he stood staring at mother
” I don’t want you anymore Felicia. Even if I don’t send you packing today…it will still happen later because Flora is the woman I want to marry. I thought of making you a second hand wife but for slåpping and knocking me off with a pestle, …it’s never happening!” Father concluded and he used his eyes to seize mother up as a piece of trash
” Jamie I’m sorry for slâpping you. I honestly don’t mind being a second wife for the sake of my children. So please allow me to stay. Think of our kids…if you send me away now…what will likely become of the three of them…?” Mother asked father pleadingly hoping that he would reconsider his stance
Father stood contemplating for a while with his eyes fixated on mother and I. The anticipation of what his response is going to be was seemingly threatening to tear mother’s heart out.
