The K1ller’s Knife – Episode 24
I soon stopped raking my head on it when I couldn’t come up with anyone in my mind despite how hard I tried to.
I just prayed a short prayer in my heart that the intentions of whoever is following me shouldn’t be a b@d one.
With that final resolution, I shrugged my shoulders and moved on to the actual reason I came home which is to take a nap after a long day at the hospital.
So I walked to my bedroom and slumped on the bed tiredly. I closed my eyes and from there I drifted to sleep.
I slept for close to three hours because of how tired I was. By the time I woke up, I felt much more energized but my stomach was rumbling which indicated hunger. I was feeling so hungry!
I made my way to the kitchen to try making what I could eat, though I was aware I can’t cook anything yet except for instant noddles which i h@te eating.
Thankfully, as I opened one of the pots I saw the leftover vegetable soup Flora made. I leaped with joy as I made cassava flour and I happily devoured it.
After I finished eating, I washed the pot and the plate and made sure everything was in place before leaving the kitchen.
Getting to the sitting room, I stood in the middle of it and was looking at the house which once housed my family. The house was too quiet which isn’t something I am used to.
Back then, mother was always at home even if Erica and Angie weren’t back from school before me.
When they eventually came back from school, we had so much fun playing, eating, and gisting together which oftentimes got on mother’s nerves.
Already as a big brother, frequent complaints and gists were something I was always looking forward to since Erica and Angie always had one hilarious news or the other to tell me.
A small smile broke out of my face as I recalled mother yelling on top of her voice for us to calm down and not bring down the house with our constant noise and laughter. Yet still Angie and Erica wouldn’t stop talking and laughing especially if it was about a complaint of what transpired in school for that day
I chuckled as I remembered how Angie reported a girl to me who told her that she has an airplane in her house which could fly to any place in the world.
How can I forget the boy Erica told me was telling her that he wants to become one of God’s angels in heaven by the time he grows up.
Is it the time mother wanted to pursue us into our room but we ended up playing ‘run and catch me’ with mother until she gave in whilst laughing so loud
I chuckled again as I remembered all the sweet memories and the people in it which are now in another neighboring town
Reminiscing about the past makes me wish that there were still here. I just wish Father appreciated mother and treated her well the way she deserved
I wished mother married a totally different peace loving and understanding man like Keto, then life wouldn’t have been this bad for us
I wished I was born into a less complicated environment but of course it is far-fetched as this is my reality
If only wishes were horses then of course beggars and helpless people like myself would ride on it unapologetically
I was wishing for so many things which I was aware weren’t going to happen, but I was sure of one thing which is that I was going to make sure that I secure a good spouse and future for my children when I am a grown up man like father.
I inhaled and let out the heavy breathe I never knew I was holding. I decided to shake off the self-pity I felt and find something productive to do to at least erase the boredom I felt inside.
Different ideas came into my mind but I kept dismissing them because it was best enjoyed with two or more persons
I gave up trying to come up with a boredom relief idea and started walking towards my bedroom to take a nap again for the second time that day
Who knows! I might even end up sleeping till the next day afterall…? I thought as I shrugged my shoulders
Midway to the door of my bedroom, I remembered that I needed something from Flora and since I couldn’t find it at her place then it is possible that it might be here in our house.
I reversed my steps and moved into father’s bedroom instead. It’s always unlocked so I had no worries about it being locked. I simply pushed the door open and went inside.
My eyes scanned round the bedroom wondering where Flora would likely prefer to hide something like such.
I first opened the wardrobe and searched all of Flora’s bags of clothes including her handbags but I found nothing there beside her stuffs.
The second place I checked was her basket and her jewelry boxes yet I still didn’t find what I was looking for.
I searched through all of Flora’s belongings in the room and went further to check every corner of the bedroom even under the bed. Nothing I saw in there was what I was looking for.
This was getting so frustrating and I wasn’t liking it one bit!
I hissed very loudly not feeling happy at all. From there I resolved to give up on searching, probably this is God’s own way of passing me a message.
Even with that resolve, I was not willing to give up so easily. So I concluded that I will search every other person’s bag and if I still find nothing, I will finally give up on the idea and forget it forever
Father’s things were the ones I didn’t bother checking while I was searching through Flora’s stuffs. I felt it was crazy for what I am looking for to be there but then I will stick with my earlier resolve
With that decided, I went ahead to check all of his bags and his belongings in the room. The last things were his clothes hung on the wardrobe hangers
One after the other, I checked the pockets of all the shirts and trousers on the hangers. As I dipped my hands into the pocket of the second to the last shirt, I touched something like two tiny bottles along with two small papers inside
Curious I pulled out the first bottle my hand touched and carefully read the description on its body
It was written there that it is a strong p0ยกSรธรฑรตฮผs substance capable of causing dรซรฅth to the consumer after a few days maximum of five days. The substance inside is a slow p0ยกsรธรฑ which k!lls subtly and it is strictly for the male gender.
Ah finally! I exclaimed loud as my heart leaped for joy after discovering that the content of the bottle is exactly what I’ve been looking for all the while.
But then I found it quite confusing that it is in father’s possession instead of Flora. I mean why is it so…?
I felt it wasn’t important and wanted to arrange everything back since I have finally found what I came here for,
Yet I couldn’t understand why my mind was telling me to check the second bottle and the papers inside.
I tried pushing the intuition aside but it became stronger and my mind was still unsettled like something isn’t right. It kept wondering why there was a second bottle in the first place…?
Having no answers, I stopped fighting my instincts. Instead I dipped my hands inside the shirt pocket and brought out the other bottle as well as the two small notes that was inside
I contemplated on which to read first; is it the description on the bottle or what was written on the papers…?
I eventually settled on reading one of the notes first before the bottle description after which I will read the second note last. So I held the small paper firmly in my left hand and innocently began scanning the contents without having anything in my mind
Midway through my reading, my mouth snapped open as I was assimilating the contents.
Unable to believe what I read, I raised the second bottle to my eye level so I could read the description on it
I froze at what I saw. My heartbeat accelerated in several degrees as what I uncovered stared hard at me in the face
My eyes turned teary immediately and I didn’t even know when I shouted with all my might…WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
