~ Genevieve ~
I was already gone before the crack of dawn.
Fortunately, Dominic had a landline, so I used it to call Julianna to pick me up since my phone was dead. She picked me up right in front of his gate and drove me to her house without so much as a question.
I suppose she saw my downcast expression and thought it wise to leave me be. I was grateful for the silence in the car. At least it gave me a moment to think about why Dominic had said those things to me.
Certainty isn’t something that comes easily most of the time, but this… this is something I am one hundred percent certain about. Dominic feels the same way for me. I know he loves me.
So why then would he say that he doesnโt?
Itโs not as if I donโt know everything there is to know about him. Why is he so frightened to admit the truth? Or better yet, what is he so afraid of?
Did I make the right decision by ending things? He looked so disheartened when I broke the news. It painรฉd me beyond words how the light in his eyes diรฉd the moment those words left my mouth. It was as if he knew our doomรฉd end was near… nearer than he expected. However, nothing compared to the tormรฉnt I feel.
His rejection hรบrt far more than anything I have ever felt before, and I should have realised earlier how much paรญn love brings. Well, thankfully, I am no longer oblivious to that fact.
I refuse to shed another tear beyond the one I have already cried after he left me in my room. I canโt keep crying like a child, as he called me. Dominic loves me, and I will ensure he says it himself.

My phone went off with calls and messages from Dominic, which I ignored. If he thinks I am going to reply after everything he said a few hours ago, he is in for a rude awakening.
Hot Villain: Vixen, I am sorry.
Hot Villain: Please, let us talk.
Hot Villain: Genevieve, I am really sorry. Donโt start thinking things. You mean so much to me, Vixen, please donโt forget that.
Hot Villain: Itโs been four hours, and you are still not picking up my calls or replying to my texts. I am losing my mind, so for Godโs sake, answer my call and letโs talk.
Hot Villain: Genevieve, where are you? I canโt track you down. Are you with Julianna Nelsons?
Hot Villain: Genevieve, just reply! God, I canโt think straight because of you. Stop being such a brร t and just pick up.
Hot Villain: Okay, sorry for calling you a brร t. I didnโt mean to type that; Iโm just frustrated. Letโs talk, please.
โArenโt you going to at least reply to his messages? Iโm sure he is losing his mind, worried about you.โ I shifted my attention from my phone to Jules at the sound of her voice.
I let out a drawn-out hum. โWhy should I reply to his messages? I like him this way… worried and all bothered; isnโt it fun?โ
My best friend sighed, knowing my nonchalance didnโt come from my heart. She knows how I feel for him, and even feigning indifference isnโt working. Jules pinned my gaze with her knowing yet scolding look, without saying a word.
โWhat?โ I asked.
โIf you are hรบrt or heartbroken, you should cry. Cry it out and donโt pretend to be strong. You know Iโm not buying whatever act youโre putting on by saying itโs fun.โ
โI donโt know what youโre talking about.โ
โTalk to him.โ
โNo.โ
โWhy not?โ
โHe hatรฉs me.โ
โThat is a lie. I saw the way he looked at you at that party; he doesnโt hร te you.โ
The way he looked at me?
I know that too. I have seen and noticed it. His gaze softened whenever it met mine, and there is this shine in them filled with adoration and love. But he wouldnโt admit that.
Bloรณdy jรฉrk!
โJules, please stop.โ Exhaustion, together with the paรญn of rejection, definitely wasnโt a good mix. It hรบrts, and I want it to stop. โI have a headache.โ
Juliannaโs eyes flashed with resignation as she nodded. โWhy donโt you sleep?โ
Yeah, I can try to do that. It will help with the storm rumbling in my head. My eyes fluttered closed when I lay down on her bed, hugging a pillow tightly.
โWhat if he comes here?โ
The eyelids that had just dropped flicked open, meeting Julianna’s panic-stricken face. I wasn’t sure if it was because she was scared of Dominic or because she was worried about her parents seeing him here. Whichever it was, it terrified her so much that I felt compelled to say something to calm her down.
“He won’t.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because I know him.” I replied, my voice dropping low with tiredness and sleepiness. “Now, can I please get some sleep?”
“Sure.”

I hadnโt seen Dominic in three days, nor had I replied to his constant messages or calls. I was unsure why he hadnโt come to find me yet, but I rather liked it. After my first and very last rejection from a man, I didnโt think I would want to see him for a couple of days.
And trust me when I say he hasnโt stopped his texts and calls. Itโs very much like Dominic Morozov not to give up on whatever he sets his mind to, but he seemed to have forgotten one thing.
Me. I, Genevieve King, also donโt give up that easily. I only do so when I see no hope, and thereโs still plenty of hope for me because I am more certain than ever that I am not delusional. P.S. Heโs going to pay for calling me that.
Anyway, today is Monday, and examinations officially start today. I dressed in my Monday uniform and headed straight to the car I was currently using, as I still hadnโt replaced my car after the kidnappiรฑg incident.
Yes, I know; my limited edition Audi is gone. So, Iโm stuck driving one of the other cars until I can either repair it or get a new one.
Driving to school today wasnโt on my agenda, but I have to do what I must to graduate from this hellhรณle of a school. Although I still wasnโt feeling better from the heartache, I didnโt allow it to distract me from the papers we had today.
As soon as I received the question sheet, I shoved all my problems and worries to the back of my mind, focusing instead on the task at hand. And mind you, it worked perfectly for yours truly.
It was time to go home, and I was making my way to the parking lot with Julianna by my side, going on and on about how the exams had gone. It wasnโt normal for Jules to ramble so much; I knew she was doing it for my benefit, hoping to keep my mind off Dominic. But she was far too late.
That man practically lives in my head without paying rent. How rude of him, am I right?!
Just as I was about to get into my car, I felt his presence and that subtle scent I still couldnโt quite place but loved, which seemed to follow him everywhere. Choosing to completely ignore him, I attempted to open the car door when he slammed his palm against it, shutting it closed with a loud thud.
A frown fought to take place on my face, but I would be a bigger foรณl if I let him see that his words had affected me this much that night. So, I plastered a benign beam of a fake smile on my face before I turned to meet his gaze.
Dominic looked as though he had aged five years in the span of two days. His eyes were dull, devoid of that spark I so loved, and his lips were missing that signature smirk of his.
I blinked to push away the compassion rising in me, and luckily it worked. Wetting my lips, I casually asked, as if his presence wasnโt affecting me, “What are you doing here?”
“I need to talk to you,” he replied, his voice sounding low. Too low, as if he were unwell or something. “Please, letโs talk.”
“But I donโt want to talk to you.”
“Genevieve,” he said, coming closer to cup my face in his palms, which were a tad too warm. “Can you please not do this right now?”
“Do what? Act like a child?” His eyelids fell closed as he expelled an exhausted sigh that hit me square on the face. “But thatโs my specialty.”
“I already apologised. What else do you want?”
“For you to leave me alone.”
“I canโt do that.”
“Why? I donโt think thereโs anyone on Earth who wants a child who keeps bugging them to be around. Iโm doing you a favour by not bothering you anymore.”
His fists wrapped around my arms in a flash as he jerked me forward to press against his body. “You’re not bothering me. And youโre definitely not a kid, alright? God, I’m sorry, Genevieve. How much longer do I have to apologise?”
“Youโre hรบrting me,” I whined, struggling fruitlessly to escape his extremely tight grip, which was obviously leaving a bruise on my arm. As soon as those words tumbled out of my mouth, he let go so quickly you’d think my skin had burnt him or something. “Can you leave? People will see you.”
Dominic hissed. “Do I look like I care?”
“Well, I do if you don’t,” I snapped back. “You know how tabloids work, donโt you? They practically feed on this sort of news.”
“What sort of news?”
“This one. You know, a man like you being this close to a kid. It could really damage your reputation, you know?” I realise itโs a bit twisted and childish to keep using that against him, but itโs amusing to watch his reaction to the word. “Bye, Dominic.”
I got into my car and drove off without bothering to see where my best friend had gone, all because I wanted to get away from Dominic as quickly as I could.
Fortunately, I wasn’t mistakenโDominic feels the same way I feel about him. Itโs even more evident in his eyes just how much my absence over the past two days has affected him. And I know this is the moment to be jumping up and rejoicing, but I canโt do that, not after noticing that he might be unwell.
Ah, bloรณdy hรฉll! Love has turned me into a… a… a simp.
