Dominic ~
It was bร d enough that I couldnโt resist the temptation of wanting more from Genevieve, but then she went and made it worse, sending every working brain cell of mine into a frenzy with her mere words.
Those words didnโt feel mere at all; they sounded more like a confession. Or maybe I was reading too much into it. It couldn’t be possible that Genevieve wanted more too.
Right?
It couldn’t be that she thought about me as much as I thought about her. It wasnโt possible that her day felt incomplete without seeing me, just as mine felt hollow without her presence. And it certainly wasnโt possible that one look from me could calm her like she calmed me.
When I gaze into those ocean-blue eyes, I want nothing more than to drown in everything that is her. She makes me feel more human, more myself. Genevieve surely doesnโt need me as much as I need her.
That insatiable desire I once felt for her has transformed into an overwhelming need. She has become a constant in my life, completely oblivious to the effect she has on me. The tranquil bliss that washes over me whenever I look at her is something I can hardly explain, even to myself.
All I know is that my racing heart isnโt a health issue; itโs all about Genevieve King, the daughter of my enรฉmy. The girl I vowed to hรบrt beyond repair might end up hรบrting me far more than I can imagine.
As Iโve said before, she doesnโt need wรฉapons to disarm meโjust her captivating, chaรณtic blue eyes looking up at me as if Iโm her dreams brought to life, along with her words. Those two elements hold more power than I can articulate; itโs unexplainable how they dismantle my defenses.
Genevieve King has me completely captivated, enthralled to the point where she doesnโt even need to be present for me to smile at the mere thought of her. The worst part is how I can recognize her by her scentโthat dร mn cherry blossom fragrance could haunt me for eternity, and I wouldnโt dare say a word to end it.
Another haunting thought is the fact that I was about to show her the base. I had never considered bringing anyone here due to obvious reasons. This is the place where I conduct all my dรญrty business in the UK, and although Genevieve poses a risk if she learns more than she already knows, I donโt mind anymore.
She has proven herself countless times in keeping my secrets safe. Shhh, donโt tell her, but she might be holding my sanity together as well. After all, how could I forget when she said to me, “I donโt mind dangeroรบs. All I care about is now. You are my now,” while brushing her thumb against my pulse, which raced under her intense gaze?
Crร zy… she drives me crร zy.
It was almost unbelievable how excited she was to see the base. The enthusiasm in her eyes didnโt waver as she gazed at the imposing gate that separated us from the world beyond.
โAre you ready?โ I had asked, relishing the radiant smile that spread across her faceโthe kind of smile I felt I had caused. She turned to me with an eager nod. โWe can still back out if youโre having second thoughtsโฆโ
โDominic,โ Genevieve had snapped, prompting me to clamp my lips shut. But then, she let a smile take over her face again, her voice turning calm and gentle. โI am ready.โ
Letting my eyes roam over her features, I studied every little expression on her gorgeous face, finding only determination reflected back at me. With a small shrug, I replied, โAlright.โ
We walked a short distance to the gate since I had decided not to drive in; I wanted her to experience every bit of the place. That way, I could witness the sparkle in her beautiful eyes that I had always loved since the first moment I saw her.
As we approached, the two guards at the gate bowed their heads in a mixture of fear and respect while Genevieve smiled politely at them. They wouldnโt dare respond to her smile, even if they wanted toโunless they didnโt value their lives, of course.
As soon as one of the guards opened the gate, Genevieve stepped into my world. I watched for the gleam in her eyes to fade upon seeing a fraction of the world I knew, but instead, she let out a little giddy squeal that made me chuckle.
God, I couldnโt love this girl any less.
Wait! Thatโฆ it didnโt come out right. I didnโt love her. Like? Yes. But love? No. I couldnโt. I shouldnโt.
I breathed out those consuming thoughts because I only needed one person to fill my mind right now, and she was doing a fantastic job of it as she scanned the surroundings where we stood.
โCan I see the training ground?โ Genevieve inquired, leaning closer to me. โAnd the weapon vault?โ
I wasnโt even surprised that she knew what that was, given the type of person she was. Her enthusiasm was infectious, making me feel as if I were seeing everything for the first time.
โOf course.โ
I led the way deeper into the main building, my mobsters acknowledging my presence by bowing their heads as I passed. Upon entering, Genevieve gasped at the sight of the game roomโa lively hub where mobsters unwind, some drinking, others engaged in board games, while a few do both.
โBoss.โ
At that single word, everyoneโs attention shifted toward the door. All present bowed their heads before their gazes moved to the person standing beside me. Confusion crossed their faces as they awaited an explanation, which I provided.
โThis is Genevieve. She is with me.โ My voice carried the power and intimidation it always did when I adopted my mร fia persona.
Genevieve smiled widely. โHi. Itโs lovely to meet you all.โ
My gaze flicked to her as the innocence in her voice shocked me. I let out a scoff, which prompted her to look up at me and glare, a gesture I couldnโt help but smile at.
โGenny?!โ The all-too-familiar voice of Dexter cuts through the room, and I rolled my eyes, groaning even before I look up to see him striding toward us. “You are here? He brought you here?”
“How else would I have found this place?” She asked with a bit of sass.
Dexter turned to me, surprise and disappointment etched on his face. โThatโs really dangerous, Dominic. She could pose a serious risk to usโand, most importantly, to you.โ He then turned back to her. โNo offense.โ
With her voice light, she said, โAll taken.โ
A chuckle escaped me, and when Dexter snapped his attention back to me, I rearranged my face into a frown. โCome with me.โ After a pause, I put my arm around Genevieveโs waist to guide her in front of me. โStay here and donโt cause any trouble. Be a good girl, okay?โ
โNo.โ
I grinned. โWhy do I even expect otherwise from the one and only Genevieve King, the most stubborn girl in the world?โ
โI have to hold onto my reputation, you know.โ
โRight, so donโt cause too much trouble, is that okay?โ
โEh, I will try.โ
โGood girl.โ I leaned in to plant a quick peck on her forehead before I left with Dexter to another room. โNo one touches her.โ My voice echoed the order throughout the room, just the way I liked it.
