~ Dominic ~
Thereโs always that one person in your life you find yourself wanting to strร ngle but canโtโmainly because you like them too much to go through with it.
It could be a sibling or a friend; in my case, itโs Dexter. Heโs lucky heโs important to me, or he would have been long gone by now.
Heโs busy laughing his head off because I spaced out for a moment and spilled hot coffee on my laptop. Somehow, he quickly figured out it was because of a girl. The reason? โIโve never done that before.โ
I canโt shake off the fact that Genevieve is mad at me. She hasnโt replied to my messages, and itโs driving me insaรฑe. I know sheโs doing it on purpose.
I send a message, she views it, and then ignores it. Sheโs mรฉssing with my head, and she knows it.
Resisting the temptation that is Genevieve King is becoming increasingly difficult. I almost gave in yesterday when she put me in a position where she had the upper hand.
Our lips were barely an inch apart, and only God knows how much I wanted to close that distance, but I couldnโt. Thatโs a line I canโt crossโnot with her.
Thereโs something about her that drives me wild. Something that makes me want to claim her as my own. That something is so powerful, it nearly pushed me to do something Iโve never done beforeโa kiss.
Fortunately, I managed to hold on to my strongest allyโmy self-controlโand told her no. She got upset and walked away.
But she didnโt leave my mind.
โI canโt believe this.โ Dexterโs annoying voice yanked me back to reality. He sounded surprised or maybe in disbeliefโI couldnโt tell. โWho is she?โ
Genevieve King.
Of course, I donโt say that. Instead, I reply, โThereโs no โshe.โ Iโm just stressed out.โ
โBy what?โ
โFirst and foremost, you.โ
โYouโre just trying to change the subject. You like someone and donโt want to tell me.โ
Now thatโs just absurd.
I do not like Genevieve.
Just because she occupies every waking thought of mine doesnโt mean I like her. I donโt like her. I canโt like her.
Iโm neither allowed to nor capable of doing so. Itโs impossible.
I scoffed, masking everything that could betray my insides, hoping he canโt read me like she can. โI have no idea what youโre talking about, and Iโd like you to stop.โ
Dexter slammed his palms on my desk, causing my pen to roll to the floor. โTell me, or Iโll find out myself.โ
โGenevieve King is her name,โ my lovely but sometimes unbearable sister declared as she entered my office in her school uniform.
She was wearing a pink hairband, as usual. She always finds a way to match her Silverlake Academy uniform with something pink.
โIs that true, Nic?โ Dexter asked, his excitement starting to get on my nerves.
I shot him a heated glare, which only made him chuckle, and then I turned to my sister. She smiled widely at him, and he mirrored the expression.
โHeโs totally obsessรฉd with her,โ she said.
Why do people keep thinking that?
First, itโs Genevieve herself, and now itโs my own sister. Is it really so hard to understand simple English?
I. Am. Not. Obsessรฉd. With. Genevieve King.
โDo you have her picture?โ Dexter asked my sister, and she nodded. Their friendship was irritating, especially now that they were ganging up on me. โCan I see?โ
โSheโs on Instagram. She has tons of followers and posts almost every day. Sheโs disgรบstingly pretty.โ
โWhatโs her IG handle?โ
โGenevieve King, what else?โ
Dexter pulled out his phone and started tapping away at the screen. My sister leaned closer to him, smiling at whatever was showing on his screen.
God, when will this be over?
Soon enough, his eyes widened, and he exclaimed, โSheโs hรณt.โ
A strange feeling washed over me, and my glare at Dexter intensified. It was too late to stop the words that were on the tip of my tongue. โSay that again, and you wonโt have a mouth or eyes.โ
My threร t seemed to fall flat, as he didnโt even flinch.
โSee?โ Rory quickly chimed in, as if trying to make a crucial point. โI told you, obsรฉssed.โ
โHow old is she?โ Dexter asked.
โSeventeen.โ
โA ten-year age gap isnโt that bad.โ Dexter shrugged, as if it were just a minor detail. โMy parentsโ is fifteen.โ
It’s not even about the age gap. Okay, itโs partly because of it, but mostly itโs about my objective: my vow to rรบin the King family by targรฉting the easiest prey.
Turns out, she isnโt the easiest prey after all.
I watched Rory as she faced Dexter. โIsnโt that, like, illรฉgal?โ
โIt wasnโt back then,โ he replied nonchalantly. โWhatโs the legal age in the UK anyway?โ
โI think itโs sixteen or seventeen; Iโm not sure.โ
Having had enough of this nonsรฉnsical conversation, I cleared my throat, immediately gaining both their attention. โRory, school now.โ
Her smile vanished, replaced by a scowl. I ignored her and turned my focus to Dexter.
โYou, work now.โ I ordered firmly. โDonโt waste time on useless and unnecessary talks.โ
With a scowl from my sister Rory and a frown from my right-hand man Dexter, I sighed in satisfaction as they complied.
Rory walked out while Dexter adjusted himself in his seat. I preferred him like thisโprofessional and devoid of any unnecessary warmth.
โDonโt forget about your meeting tonight at Red. Itโs very important for you to be there,โ he explained. โThe meeting is at eight, so donโt show up at ten.โ
I nearly laughed, but it seemed my laugh button was broken because it wasnโt funny at all. โIs that all?โ
โYes.โ
โOkay. Bye.โ

My eardrums were practically bleรฉding from the loud music blasting from the speakers. My gaze shifted from one head to another from the balcony where I stood.
Everyone seemed happy as they danced to the unfamiliar music disturbing my ears. I donโt understand why people love clubbing, but since it generates a huge amount of money, I, of course, joined the business.
Having numerous businesses is one of the many reasons people hร te me; they despรญse successful people. Right now, I was supposed to meet with the Puerto Rican mafรญa to finalize yet another business deal to increase the flow of money in my possession.
โGood evening, Mr. Morozov.โ A familiar voice greeted me from behind. โI hope I didnโt keep you waiting long.โ
He didnโt need to keep me waiting long to make me aรฑgry. I was already in a sour mood, so it was easy to provoke me.
โNo problem, Mr. Matteo. Have a seat?โ
Beside him was his own right-hand man, holding a briefcase. Mr. Matteo took his seat. โThe flight took longer than expected; I apologize.โ
He should be.
โItโs alright. Letโs get this done with,โ I replied, impatient to leave once I signed the papers.
It was a partnership contract that would grant me twenty percent of his profit if he wanted to build on my land. He also needed ร rms and ammรบnition.
His right-hand manโwhose name I had forgottenโopened the suitcase and presented the contract. After reading through it, I found nothing wrong.
Just as I was about to sign, the corner of my eye caught sight of Genevieve King. It took me almost a minute to tear my gaze away from her.
Why is she here?
Donโt react, Dominic.
I signed the papers, we shook hands, and they left.
โSheโs even hรณtter in person,โ Dexter said, standing beside me.
I knew he was referring to Genevieve since we were both looking in the same direction.
I turned my head to glare at him. โDonโt you have a boyfriend?โ
โYeah, and?โ
โWell, donโt look at her.โ
โYou know Iโm bi, right?โ
โSo?โ
โI couldโโ
โComplete that statement. Go on, I dare you.โ I cut him off firmly. He backed away, hands raised in surrender.
Returning my eyes to her, I noticed she was uncomfortably close to a scrรบffy-looking guy. By the look of it, he seemed to be flirting with her.
The angรฉr stirring within me simmered with something else. I watched wordlessly until I could no longer contain myself.
I sent her a message; she didnโt even bother checking it. I sent another, and this time, she checked it, a frown spreading across her face.
I get it; sheโs still mร d at me. But if she doesnโt leave that guy alone, he will be deรกd.
My vision instantly fogged with a red mist when his hand wrapped around her waist, and she let him. She even seemed to be enjoying it.
So, I did somethingโand I donโt regret it because now I have her right in front of me as we wait for our meal to arrive.
Yes, we’re having dinner.
When you have money or the right last name, everything tends to fall into place. I wanted our dinner to be private, so I rented out the restaurant for the night.
Being alone with her isnโt the best idea after my close call yesterday, but I went ahead with it anyway. I realized I couldn’t bear the thought of anyone else touching my Genevieve.
I still canโt shake the image of her black silk dress clinging to her curves just right since I saw her moments ago. Today, she wore heels instead of her usual boots, adding an extra allure that was completely unnecessary…though I canโt quite find the words to describe it.
“Don’t look at me like that,” she said.
“Like what?” I replied.
“Like you want to eat me.”
She wasn’t wrong.
For the second time today, I blurted out what I shouldnโt have. “What if I say I do?”
