“You.” Freya pointed. “I know you, I’ve seen you before.”
“Yes. Well, I’d say, we met on a not so good day. But it’s alright, I ain’t here to judge any one, like I said earlier, I just wanna talk “
Freya calmed down to listen to her. “What do you wanna talk about?” She asked. “I’m listening.”
“I know the past held a sad road between you and Kelly, but nevertheless, I’m not here to talk about that either. But I believe both of you are definitely not in close terms.”
“You’re right, we aren’t in close terms because she made it like that. I don’t know why she hates me so much. Some times I want to believe it’s because Vincenzo’s interest in her changed, but then, this hatred for me has been there since the day he brought me out of the cell.”
“Don’t you think she hates you because of your brother?”
“But I am not my brother. Whatever it is Olsen did to them has nothing to do with me. And you know, I’m the one who is supposed to hate her since she is the girlfriend to my brother’s once enemy. But then, it’s the vice versa.”
“And what if I tell you none of that is the reason why she has such hatred for you?”
“It still doesn’t make any sense why she has to feel that way towards me. I don’t even know her to begin with, she just found pleasure in making my life miserable.”
“Well, Kelly had done all those because of how beautiful you are.” Freya recalled her conversation with Myra that night when Myra told her this same thing. “Kelly is a jealous type of person, especially when she sees you have some thing she doesn’t.”
“She’s beautiful.”
“Not as beautiful as you are. I’ll give you the credit.”
“I thought Kelly was your friend.” Freya said, shocked at Danielle’s compliment.
“She still is, but I’m only doing this to keep her safe. I don’t know what she’s up to, but trust me, whatever it is in her head, I don’t think it’s a good thing.”
“What are you talking about?” Freya asked, confused.
“Did you notice any thing suspicious before?” She asked.
“Why do you ask?” Freya asked back.
“From the way you sounded on the phone, you sounded scared and unsure. So tell me, did some thing happen?”
“N-no. Nothing happened.”
“You don’t have to lie to me, Freya, especially now your life is in danger.”
“I got a phone call from a stranger last week. I went to the mall for a hangout with my best friend, but then, I noticed some one was watching me. And when we headed back home, there was this car following me so I had to drive over to the park avenue, where he lost us.”
Danielle nods her head. “Do you have any idea who it might be?” Freya asked, worried.
“No, but I know who sent him after you.” Freya’s eyes widened.
“Who is that?” She questioned. “Tell me, who sent him after me?”
“Kelly. And since her plan to have you dead has failed, I believe she’s up to some thing else. I don’t know what it is, but from the look on her face when I returned home, I could tell she is quite busy with her brain.”
“Why?” Freya cried, “But why would she desperately want me dead? I never asked for any of this. I never asked Vincenzo to love me, why would she want me dead?” She rubbed her face frustratedly. “None of this would have happened if only Olsen never killed Dento.”
“Hey.” Danielle took her hand, “There’s a way to end all this. Crying won’t solve any thing, trust me, it’s not worth it.”
“What way? The only way is to leave the state for good.”
“Leaving isn’t the best option either. Look Freya, you can’t keep running away from reality, it’s time you embrace it and face it. Running will only price how weak and ungrateful you are to Vincenzo’s love for you. He needs you more than ever, Kelly isn’t his future. She is only obsessed with him, but don’t worry, it’ll all die off. But in the meantime, your safety is what matters.”
“What am I to do?” She asked.
“Trust no one. Let no one know of your whereabouts. It mustn’t only come from people outside, she might end up using those on the inside.”
“What are you talking about?” Freya asked, confused.
“Do you think locking yourself all day in your room is the only way to get free from the one who wants you dead? That is the easiest means for them to get to you. Those outside might not have the chance to get to you, but those who live within the four walls of the same building you stay are the ones you shouldn’t trust for any reason.”
She stood up. “I fear this will be the last time we’d meet, but until then, do take care of yourself.” The waiter who had come with the ordered dish, drops the glasses of juice on the table. Danielle gulped hers at once, dropping the glass cup back on the table.
“Try not to think too much, every thing is gonna be alright some day. Don’t forget…” She pointed at the filled glass of juice.
She turned to leave when Freya stopped her. “Wait.”
She stopped walking, turning to look at her. “Yes, dear?”
“Even if this would be the last day we’d see, can we at least communicate on the phone?” She asked
Danielle shrugged her shoulders. “Sure.”
“Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me, I’m just trying to keep my friend away from prison. Have a nice day ahead.” She left.
Freya glared at her drink, what if she had doubted her instinct to come here? Would she have gotten the chance to know what awaits her ahead? Would she be more conscious of her surroundings and the people around her?
But that wasn’t her main disturbance, but the fact that her life isn’t at peace all because of one woman who has hated her for no reason. The very one who desperately wants her dead more than any one else.
~
Freya sat in her plush armchair, her mind swirling with numerous. Danielle’s words echoed in her head, and she just couldn’t get it off her mind. It suffocated her. It still sounded like a death alarm to her ears.
She was wondering whether or not she should tell Vincenzo about this, or she should just keep it all to himself to spare him the pain and confusion?
As she contemplated her thoughts, the door to her room swung open, and Myra, walked in. Immediately, she noticed the troubled expression etched on Freya’s face. Concern welled up within her, and she wasted no time in asking what was weighing so heavily on her friend’s mind.
“Myra, I don’t know what to do,” Freya began, her voice barely a whisper. “Danielle approached me earlier, revealing some thing about Kelly’s plans. It’s… it’s grave, Myra, and I’m torn on whether or not to tell Vincenzo about it.”
“First of all, if you don’t mind me asking. Who is Danielle?” Myra asked as she has no idea who Danielle is.
“She’s Kelly’s friend. She once came here the day I acted rational towards Kelly.” I explained.
“Oh. She was with another lady beside her, right?” She asked to be sure.
“Exactly.”
“So…?”
“She told me Kelly has been the one after my life. Including that day we got chased by a stranger on our way home from the outing.”
Myra’s eyes widened, the information still sounded strange to her ears. Not like she was surprised, she knows what Kelly is capable of doing. Only that she never expected she’d be so desperate to this extent.
“So, I’m so confused right now. I don’t know if I should tell Vincenzo about it, or maybe I should act like every thing is alright.” Freya paused, seeking her opinion. “And now Kelly has some diabolical plan, some thing that could endanger us all.”
Myra, who was listening intently furrowed her brow with worry as the gravity of what Freya had told her settled upon her. She could sense the fear in her friend’s voice, how protective Freya was trying to be towards Vincenzo.
She didn’t blame her for being this worried, every one would have done the same. Even Kelly would if Freya was as bad as she thought. But then, it’s better the truth is revealed than kept secret. Trying to keep him away from hurt may only end him hurt.
“You have to tell Vincenzo, Freya,” Myra said firmly, “Keeping this from him will only put him at greater risk. He deserves to know, even if it’ll be difficult for him to hear. Secrecy has never been the foundation of our life.”
“I understand, Myra. But you’ve got to know this too, Vincenzo needs to forget about Kelly, he already has. Talking about her may bring past memories to him. I don’t want him regretting ever pushing her away.”
Myra realizes the real reason why Freya is scared to tell Vincenzo. Not only was she trying to be protective of him, she was likewise jealous to share him with another woman.
“Don’t let your jealousy destroy your relationship, Freya. This is the exact same reason why Kelly lost Mr. Vincenzo in the first place. You know the truth, do what’s right and save the cost of hurting his heart.”
Myra reached out, placing a comforting hand on Freya’s arm. “Freya, I know it’s difficult, and I do understand your fear. The truth can be painful, but what if this is what Mr. Vincenzo wants? A woman who doesn’t keep secrets from him. One who is ready to expose the thoughts of his enemies to him. You don’t wanna lose him so soon, do you?”
Freya shook her head.
“Then do the right thing.”
Freya couldn’t help but feel grateful for having Myra in her life. When things seemed a bit difficult, Myra was always there to make it easy in the best way.
“Thank you so much for understanding. I’ll talk to Vincenzo about this when he returns.”
“Good. Now shake the thought off and get yourself busy with some thing other than thinking.” Freya chuckled. “I’ll send a colleague to get you orange juice from the fridge.”
“I want pineapple.”
“You’ll see it in a minute.” She was about to go when Freya asked.
“Why did you show up here in the first place? I don’t remember seeing you walk in with some thing, and now you’re leaving with nothing.”
Myra smiled. “I’ll be frank with you, I have no idea why I came here. Let’s just say, fate did.”
Freya chuckled. “Fate did.”
Myra finally left the room.
—
When Vincenzo returned home, he was looking tired and needed some rest. Freya decided not to bother him, probably she’d talk to him about it the next morning.
While the hour hand ticked, Freya found herself not being able to sleep. She was sitting on the bed, and she’d look at Vincenzo for a while, before staring outta nowhere.
It was as if the weight of her thought was only being proactive at the moment. Nature came calling, but the thought was just too much that it left as soon as it came.
While she was still thinking, she felt a hand touch her thigh. She looked down to see Vincenzo staring at her. “What’s on your mind?” He asked.
“Nothing.”
“Nothing?” He repeated. “You don’t look like you had a minute of sleep. Some thing is bothering you.”
She heaved. “I went to meet a friend of Kelly’s.” He took his hand off my thigh, adjusting himself to sit down.
“Why?” He asked, sounding a bit strict.
“She texted me to meet her at a cafe, she said she has some thing important to tell me. So, I left and we met at the cafe.”
“What did she say?”
“She told me all I needed to know. She said it’s been Kelly’s plan all those while. Starting from the day I was kidnapped and raped, including the day Myra and I had gone for girl’s outing, the stranger who chased after us, it was all Kelly’s plan to eliminate me. And now, Kelly is still working on a new plan she doesn’t want anyone to know about.”
For a while Vincenzo was quiet.
“I know it’s hard for you to believe, but you’ve got to trust me, Danielle won’t lie about this.” I was hoping he’d believe me and find no reason to justify Kelly’s actions.
He held my hand in his, staring worriedly at me. “I’m not saying you’re lying, I’m only worried about your safety. We don’t know what she’s up to this time, your safety is at a risk.”
“What are we gonna do?” I asked, worried
“Don’t worry, I’ll figure it out. In the meantime, I think I have to spend the week with you. We can’t tell if she has a spy in our midst.”
Freya was thankful for Vincenzo to understand her troubling thoughts. He even had to go to the extreme to make sure her safety was secured. She knew he can’t always stay by her side forever, at least the few moments meant a lot to her.
