The Feeling is Real

Two days successfully passed by, even though Myra has always been at her service, Freya can’t help but think about Vincenzo with each passing moment. Despite how hard she tries to get him off her head, his face keeps displaying all the time. Every one of her thoughts is always about him. She was beginning to realize how much she misses him.

She wasn’t intending to act the way she did two days ago, on the other hand, she wasn’t expecting he would react this way to her. She didn’t imagine him keeping to his words after saying that. Now she misses him so much, she doesn’t know how to explain it to her friend without having her yelling at her.

However, she has been practicing on how to walk. First, lifting herself up from the wheelchair with Myra’s help, now she’s been doing it herself all the time. But, she was still finding it quite difficult until this morning, she finally lifted herself up.

She smiled in victory, knowing within herself step one has successfully been accomplished. Now, it was time for her to walk. She held the edges of the drawer, though her legs still hurt, she was determined to make a step.

Successfully, she walked from one end of the drawer to the other, but then, she was finding it difficult to turn. Vincenzo on the other hand was just returning from work, he was looking depressed and sad that one may think he had picked a fight with some one.

On seeing him, Myra rushed to him. She didn’t need Freya to tell her that she was indeed missing him, she knew it from the day he had last checked on her that she wanted every chance to look at his face. No matter how stubborn Freya, Myra would never give up on her.

“Good afternoon, sir.” She greeted him.

“Hey, Myra. How are you today?”

“I’m fine, sir. If you don’t mind me disturbing you for the moment, I was wondering if you can see Freya today.” He frowned. “I know she has been annoying for quite some time now but, no matter what, I believe she still needs you. Especially now.”

“I wish I could meet her , but I can’t. No matter how I try to make her believe in me, it’s more like I’m bothering her so I think I should just let her live her life the way she wants.”

“No, sir, she can’t leave her life without you.” She observed the surprised look in his face. “It’s obvious you do like her, we all noticed it the night you went to the hospital. And as a friend, I will do whatever it takes to see my friends happy. She needs you sir, more than ever.”

Vincenzo found senses in her words. He buried the anger and headed towards Freya’s room. Myra was so excited, but prayed Freya wouldn’t mess things up.

When he got to her room, he had forgotten to knock due to how desperate he was to see her face. On getting in, he was shocked to see her standing on her feet. She was frightened by his entrance, losing her stand and she was about to fall when he caught her by the waist.

“What were you thinking?” He scolded her as he carried her back to the wheelchair. “Do you ever imagine what would happen when you fall in this condition?”

Freya felt embarrassed as he scolded her. It’s been a long time since some one ever scolded her for any thing. She misses those times Olsen yells at her, then she would call him a wicked brother, but now she is beginning to miss those days.

“I was only trying to walk. I’m tired of sitting here all the time.”

“It doesn’t matter, you’ll get to work when you heal.” He said, his voice still high.

“How long do you think I’ll heal? I’m not some kinda supernatural being, I’m a human.” She blurted.

“That’s why you have to be patient!”

She fought the tears back but they ended up rolling down her cheeks. “Why are you yelling at me like I’m a kid?”

Vincenzo wasn’t intending it would hurt her this much. His heart melted on seeing her tears, he knew it was time he needed to go gentle with her. He has come to realize she isn’t the same any more.

“Lately, you’ve become stubborn and it’s fucking annoying.”

“I just wanna learn how to walk. I want to walk like every other person, sitting here all day won’t get the wounds healed either.”

“Then you should have waited for Myra to assist you. What if I didn’t show up, who knows what would have happened to you?” He’s been dodging her gaze not to express how pained he feels to see her tears. He finally looked at her, squatting before her. He said; “If only you can give me the chance to make it up to you, I promise, I would do whatever it takes to see you smile. Though I can’t do the things Olsen did for you, but I can try.”

More tears escaped her eyes as she listened to his words. “Just give me a chance to prove to you how much I care for you. Just a second chance would do.” His eyes turned red, but tears didn’t come out.

Freya took hold of his hands into hers, “I don’t hate you, Enzo, I have no grudges for you any more. All I want is for you to be happy, if not with me, but with her.”

He shook his head. “Not her any more, I need you, Freya. I need you in my life. I need you to be part of my life. Stay by my side and I promise to take care of you even if it involves my life.”

“I don’t need your money, Enzo, I don’t need your riches either. All I want is your love, your care, that’s all.”

“Then you have it all to yourself. Always.” He hugged her so tight. The feeling was real. This was a moment he hoped for, a moment Freya didn’t see coming.

****

Am I the only one seeing this 🥺🥺🥺

Vincenzo walked into Freya’s room. He leaned against the wall, looking at her. He was quiet and the expression on his face wasn’t encouraging at all. Freya wonders why he was quiet and has refused to say a word.

She decided to ask, maybe with that she can get him to talk. “What’s wrong, Enzo? Why are you dull and quiet?”

“It’s nothing. I was just going to tell you that I won’t be in the state for a while.” He broke the news to her.

Freya’s heart stopped beating for a moment, it was heartbreaking news to her. Why so soon? Why does it have to be now they’re getting to know each other?

Though she tries to hide her feelings, Vincenzo reading her emotions knew she was hiding how sad she was.

He asked her if she wanted him to stay and he was fully ready to cancel his flight for her sake. But Freya, despite being sad, she told him to go and not to stay back because of her.

“You can’t just cancel your flight because of me. Whatever reason it is you are leaving, you should do it. I’ll be fine.”

“Honestly, I don’t like how those words sounded. You know, I can do any thing for you and I won’t care. Just say the words and I’ll do it.”

A tear dropped on her cheek. “I don’t want you to go, I want you to stay back. I want you to be here with me, especially now.” She started crying, “But you still have to go, for my sake. I’ll be fine with Myra, I’ve got her with me.”

He was on the point of canceling his flight, but when she assured him that she will be fine with Myra by her side, he found no reason to say no. With that he was rest assured.

“If I need any thing, I’ll let Myra contact you.” She said, but that’s not what Vincenzo wanted to hear. He wanted her to tell him all her problems and not some one else doing the job.

He said, “I wanna be the one to hear your needs and no one else, because no one can do more for you than I would.”

His heart swelled with love for Freya as he looked into her eyes, the depth of his feelings almost overwhelming him. He wanted to be the one to take care of her, to be there for her every step of the way.

But he knew he couldn’t always be physically present, and that realization saddened him. He walked towards her, closing the distance between them, and gently held her hands in his, his touch warm and reassuring.

“Freya,” he began, his voice tender, “I wish I didn’t have to go, but I’ll be back before you know it. I promise.” He brushed a strand of hair away from her face, his gaze not leaving hers.

Freya managed a faint smile, trying to keep her emotions in check. “I understand, Vincenzo. You have responsibilities, and I don’t want to hold you back from them. It’s just that…” She hesitated, not wanting to burden him with her feelings.

“Just what, Freya? You can tell me any thing,” Vincenzo encouraged, his concern evident in his eyes.

She took a deep breath, gathering her courage. “It’s just that I’ll miss you, that’s all. But I don’t want you to change your plans because of me. This trip is important, and you shouldn’t sacrifice it for me.”

Vincenzo’s heart ached at the thought of leaving her when she was feeling this way, but he admired her strength and independence. He knew that Freya was more than capable of handling herself, but he still wanted to be there for her in any way he could.

“You don’t have to be so strong all the time, Freya,” he said softly. “It’s okay to feel sad, and it’s okay to lean on others for support. That’s what I’m here for. I want to be the one you turn to when you need some one, the one you trust with your heart.”

Freya’s eyes shimmered with unshed tears as she gazed at Vincenzo, touched by his words. “You already are, Vincenzo. I trust you with every thing I have.” She paused, trying to find the right words. “And Myra will be there with me too. She’s a good friend, and I know I can talk to her, but I want you to know every thing too.”

Vincenzo’s determination grew, and he cupped her cheek gently, his thumb caressing her skin. “Thank you for trusting me, Freya. I promise to call you every chance I get, and we can video chat as well. Distance won’t change what we mean to each other.”

As much as Freya appreciated his words, she couldn’t help feeling loved and exposed. “I just hate that I’ll miss you so much,” she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Vincenzo pulled her into a warm embrace, holding her close to his heart. “I’ll miss you too, Freya, more than you can imagine. But this trip will be over before we know it, and I’ll be back by your side, where I belong.” He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, his affectionate gesture bringing her a moment of solace.

“Promise me some thing, Vincenzo,” Freya said, looking up into his eyes.

“Any thing,” he replied, his voice unwavering.

“Promise me that you’ll take care of yourself and be safe during this trip,” she implored, her concern for him equal to his concern for her.

“I promise,” he said firmly, “for you and for us.”

Freya knew deep down that Vincenzo truly cared for her, and she felt blessed to have some one like him in her life. Even though she would miss him terribly, she knew this separation won’t be for long.

“I don’t know if you can come with me, I have some where to show you.”

Freya wouldn’t say no. Not while the day smelt like a nice one to her.

He sent Myra to assist her with changing into a new clothes while he left for his room to get dressed too. He was done before Freya had worn her clothes. Girl’s dressing isn’t like guys who would probably spend five minutes to get every thing done.

Though he didn’t tell her where they were going to, and when she asked him, he refused to talk, he wanted it to be a surprise.

“It’s a surprise, let’s keep it that way.” He smiled after he had said that, leaving Freya more curious than she already is.

They finally got to the most popular restaurant in the state and Freya was ashamed of herself. Other men walked in with their abled girlfriends, lovers or spouse whichever one, but on her side, Vincenzo was walking in with a disabled lady like her.

She only didn’t want to feel inferior, she didn’t want to reduce Vincenzo’s reputation since he was a well known man.

“No, Enzo, I don’t think I can go in there with you.” She refused.

“Why?”

“Because I don’t deserve to. Take a look at the others, look how they walk with abled women while you…”

Vincenzo frowned, he hated how she felt ashamed of herself. Not like she was naturally born that way, but an effect of an incident which would surely heal in no time and yet, she let her ego so low.

“They want it that way, Freya, I want you this way with me.”

“What if…”

He didn’t let her explain. “No what if. I’m taking you with me because I am proud of you just the way you are.” He opened the door, stepping out of the car.

Vincenzo had been planning this special evening for Freya for days, and he was determined to make it a memorable experience, no matter what obstacles they might encounter. As he gently lifted Freya into her wheelchair, he looked into her eyes with a reassuring smile.

“Trust me, Freya, tonight is going to be amazing. You have nothing to be ashamed of, and I’m honored to be here with you,” he said softly.

Freya couldn’t help but feel a surge of gratitude and admiration for Vincenzo. Despite her initial hesitation, she knew that he truly cared for her and wasn’t bothered by her disability. With a deep breath, she mustered the courage to embrace the evening and enjoy it to the fullest.

As they entered the restaurant, Vincenzo held Freya’s hand, making her feel comfortable and supported. The stares from other patrons didn’t bother her as much now, knowing that she had some one as caring and understanding as Vincenzo by her side.

They were shown to a table by the window, overlooking a beautiful city view, which made the night even more magical.

Throughout the dinner, Vincenzo kept the conversation lively and engaging, making Freya forget about her initial worries. They talked about their dreams, shared funny anecdotes, and discovered common interests. Freya found herself laughing and enjoying the moment more than she had anticipated.

As the evening progressed, Vincenzo revealed that he had planned some thing extra special for dessert. He wheeled Freya outside to a beautifully decorated garden with fairy lights twinkling in the darkness.

In the center of the garden, there was a small dance floor where a live band started playing their favorite song.

“I’ve always wanted to dance with you, Freya,” Vincenzo said, looking into her eyes affectionately.

At first, Freya hesitated, feeling self-conscious about dancing in her wheelchair. But Vincenzo’s reassuring smile and encouraging words made her realize that she could enjoy the moment just like any one else.

“Come on, it’s me, you have nothing to be ashamed of.” She picked the hidden courage, nodding her head in approval.

“Okay, you can do this, Freya.” She reassured herself. “It’s a one night stand, trust me, you don’t wanna regret this.”

As they swayed to the music, Freya felt an overwhelming sense of joy and love. It wasn’t as she expected. The excitement and happiness was one she hasn’t felt in years.

The onlookers in the restaurant had noticed the couple’s entrance to the garden, and now they watched in awe as Vincenzo and Freya danced gracefully together.

Their admiration was not for pity or condescension, but for the beautiful connection and love they witnessed between the two new lovers.

As the night drew to a close, Vincenzo wheeled Freya back to the car. She couldn’t stop thanking him for the unforgettable experience he had given her. With tears in her eyes, she told him how much it meant to her to be treated with such love and respect.

“Freya, you are an incredible person, and I want to share every moment with you, no matter where we go or what we do. Your disability doesn’t define you; it’s your strength and confidence that amaze me every day,” Vincenzo said, his voice filled with sincerity.

Freya felt her heart swell with love for Vincenzo. He had shown her that she didn’t need to feel ashamed or inferior. He had embraced her for who she was, and his acceptance gave her the confidence to be herself without reservation.

While he drew them back home, Freya began to laugh. Vincenzo also joined her, not knowing why she was laughing but he was drawn to the way she laughed. “Why are you laughing?” He asked, trying to hold himself from laughing.

“Did you see how you danced back there? Oh gracious Zeus, I can’t believe you actually danced. I mean, I never thought you could dance that much.”

Vincenzo bursted into uncontrollable laughter. “Is that why you’re laughing at me? Honestly, I still can’t believe I can dance. A lot of people say that but… that’s not true.”

“Trust me when I say you can dance.”

He was conscious of himself not to be distracted while driving. He looked at her, a broad smile played on his face. “I’m happy you’re happy. I love the joy in your face.”

Freya blushed, almost feeling the sky in her bosom. “I wouldn’t have been if not for you. Though we had a rough start, I’m happy how smooth the journey seems to be now.”

*****

I’m literally blushing 🙈
