โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

~ Dominic ~

Itโ€™s been fifteen blรฒody minutes since Genevieve went up to get her things. Fifteen. She never takes this long. At this rate, Iโ€™m starting to worry sheโ€™s tripped over something and snapped her legโ€”or something just as bad.

Dragging a weary hand down my face, I pushed off the wall and made for the stairs, brushing aside the exhaustion clawing at my consciousness. Each step thudded heavily beneath me, but I took them two at a time, refusing to give in to the fatigue that had taken up permanent residence in my limbs.

By the time I reached the hallway, I could make out the faint murmuring of my girlsโ€”Rory and Genny. The familiar cadence of their voices spurred me on. Maybe if I joined in, Iโ€™d get a sense of whether my sister was still furious with me.

She probably was. Rory could hold a grudge like a f+cking family heirloom.

โ€œAnd Iโ€™m guessing you never mentioned him to him either, right?โ€

That was Rory, clear as day, questioning Genevieveโ€”who, notably, said nothing in return.

Whoโ€™s him?

Am I the him?

Curiosity gnawed at my gut as I closed the distance to Roryโ€™s bedroom door.

โ€œYou didnโ€™t know he had a sisterโ€ฆโ€ Auroraโ€™s voice held a flicker of wonder, laced with a tinge of hurt I knew Iโ€™d caused. โ€œAnd now? He doesnโ€™t know youโ€™ve got a brother. Lovely dynamic, that, isnโ€™t it?โ€

I froze in place, surprise jolting through me. But it lasted all of two seconds before I stepped inside Roryโ€™s room, which, as usual, looked like a unicorn had vomited pink glitter all over it.

โ€œYouโ€™ve got a brother?โ€

Genevieve didnโ€™t turn. She stood stiff as a statue, like the very air had frozen around her. I approached, gently placing my hand on her shoulder and turning her to face me.

โ€œBaby,โ€ I asked softly, โ€œdo you have a brother?โ€

โ€œY-yes.โ€

What?

Howโ€™s that even possible?

Why didnโ€™t I know?

Better yetโ€”how the hรฉll did Aurora know?

โ€œAnd how exactly did thisโ€”your brotherโ€”come up in conversation?โ€ I asked, shifting my focus to my sister.

โ€œNothing,โ€ Rory snapped from where she sat at the edge of her overly pink bed.

I raised a brow. โ€œNothing? She just wandered into your room and casually mentioned sheโ€™s got a brother?โ€

โ€œYeah. Thatโ€™s exactly what happened,โ€ she retorted, her tone sharp, her gaze challenging mine. She was definitely still angry. “Why is that unbelievable?”

โ€œDoes sound a bit unbelievable, donโ€™t you think?โ€ I replied evenly, turning to Genevieve, who watched us like a hawk. โ€œHow does she know about your brother?โ€

โ€œHe was my professor at university. Thatโ€™s all. Nothing else.โ€

I caught the flicker of emotion in Genevieveโ€™s eyesโ€”quick as lightning but impossible to miss. That โ€œnothing elseโ€ held weight. More than she was willing to admit.

โ€œWeโ€™ll talk about this later,โ€ I said to Aurora, voice firm, before facing Genevieve again. Her brows were drawn, as if solving a complicated equation in her head. โ€œMy love?โ€ Her eyes snapped to mine. โ€œLet’s go?โ€

โ€ขโ€ข

I didnโ€™t look at her as I drove, both hands on the wheel, but my mind couldnโ€™t stay quiet.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ your brother?โ€

She turned to me slightly, her profile composed but unreadable. I could see the blankness in her expression from the corner of my eye.

โ€œSince when have you had a brother?โ€

I wasnโ€™t angry. Not hรบrt either. Just confused. And maybe a bit unsettled. Why hadnโ€™t she ever brought him up?

โ€œSince forever.โ€

Forever. Thatโ€™s a long blรณody time.

โ€œAnd you never thought to mention him?โ€

โ€œIt justโ€ฆ never came up.โ€

I didnโ€™t respond right away. Just hummed under my breath. She heard it, and huffed.

โ€œItโ€™s not like I deliberately hid it from you. I thought you already knewโ€”like everyone else seems to.โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t know you had a brother.โ€

โ€œWell, I do now,โ€ she muttered, folding her arms, a slight frown pulling at her lips. โ€œI wasnโ€™t hiding anything, Dominic. I just assumed you knew. Honestly.โ€

She was getting upset, and that wasnโ€™t what I wanted. One person mad at me was already too much for one day.

โ€œItโ€™s alright,โ€ I murmured, making sure my tone was gentle. โ€œThis brother of yoursโ€”how old is he?โ€

โ€œThirty-five.โ€

Same age as me.

Heโ€™s been alive for thirty-five years, and Iโ€™m only just finding out he exists? How? I may not have hired the best investigator to look into the Kings back then, but he wasnโ€™t a rookie either.

I pulled up in front of Liamโ€™s buildingโ€”the very one Genevieve now shared with her him.

โ€œIโ€™ll walk you up,โ€ I said, stepping out before she could protest. I jogged round and opened the passenger door for her.

โ€œThanks,โ€ she said, soft but audible.

It was mid-afternoon, and the wind tousled her hair, flicking strands against her cheeks. We walked in silence. The lift ride to her floor was just as quiet, though my mind was anything but. I was already planning increased security measuresโ€”for both of them.

The lift doors slid open with a soft ding. My eyes swept the corridor quicklyโ€”and landed on a man loitering near Genevieveโ€™s door.

She noticed him too, though she didnโ€™t appear alarmed. Just mildly surprised, with a flicker of something I could only describe as familiarity. My hand, previously near the concealed pรญstol under my shirt, slowly withdrew.

The man leaned against the wall, one leg propped up, the other planted firmly. He wore a casual off-white shirt, sleeves rolled up to reveal strong forearms, and black trousers. His eyes were on his phone, but at the sound of Genevieveโ€™s boots on the floor, his head snapped up.

From across the corridor, I saw his gaze softenโ€”only to darken the moment it fell on me.

Iโ€™d bet my life that was the brother. The resemblance was subtle, mostly in the eyes.

โ€œDove,โ€ he called, his voice warm and intimate.

She smiled and walked over.

โ€œWhat happened?โ€

โ€œNothing.โ€

โ€œSo youโ€™ve just been ignoring calls then? Just like that?โ€

โ€œNoโ€”ummโ€”itโ€™s just been a mad couple of days. Iโ€™ve been busy.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s the second time Iโ€™ve heard that excuse.โ€ His brows drew together. โ€œWhat the hรฉll happened that you couldnโ€™t call us back? Did heโ€”โ€ His glare landed squarely on me, eyes filled with vรฉnom. โ€œโ€”do something to you?โ€

โ€œWhat? No.โ€ Genevieve shook her head and turned towards me. โ€œEverett,โ€ she said, linking her fingers through mine with a bright smile, โ€œthis is Dominic. My boyfriend. But you already knew that, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Then to me: โ€œDominic, this is Everettโ€”my brother.โ€

The glare that followed her declaration couldโ€™ve cut steel. He didnโ€™t even try to hide it. He loathed me.

Still, I offered him my hand.

Everett looked at it. Then at me. Then back at my hand again. Finally, with a dramatic eye-roll, he took itโ€”grip firm, almost punishing.

โ€œNice to meet you.โ€

โ€œCanโ€™t say the same about you.โ€

โ€œEver!โ€ Genevieve snapped, but his scowl only deepened. โ€œCan we please not do this?โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t do anything,โ€ I said calmly.

โ€œYour existence is offence enough.โ€

Right. Shรณoting your girlfriendโ€™s brother wasnโ€™t ideal. I gave Genevieve a faint smile and turned her towards me. โ€œIโ€™ve got to go. Take care, alright?โ€

She nodded, her hand slipping from mine. I leaned in to kiss her foreheadโ€”

Only for Everett to yank her away.

My brows lifted in disbelief. He mirrored the expression, daring me to say something.

She glared at him.

โ€œWhat?โ€ His tone softened slightly. โ€œDidnโ€™t he say he had to go? Iโ€™m just helping him leave quicker.โ€

โ€œAnd a kiss wouldโ€™ve made him late?โ€

โ€œYeah, probably.โ€

โ€œGod, youโ€™re insufferable,โ€ she groaned, flinging open the door and slamming it behind her.

Now it was just us. Alone. His stare could’ve set fire to dry wood.

Everett stepped forward, clearly trying to intimidate me. Good luck with that. Even if we werenโ€™t the same height and build, I still wouldnโ€™t have flinched.

โ€œI donโ€™t like you.โ€

โ€œI figured.โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t like you with my sister.โ€

โ€œUnfortunate. Because Iโ€™m not going anywhere. And neither is she. That girlโ€”your sisterโ€”is going to be my wife.โ€

โ€œThat wonโ€™t happen.โ€ His voice was confident. Absolute. โ€œSheโ€™ll see through you soon enough. Sheโ€™ll leave. For good.โ€

โ€œThat wonโ€™t happen,โ€ I said, stealing his own words and smirking at the fรบry that crossed his face. โ€œI love her. Andโ€”like it or notโ€”she loves me too. Sheโ€™s mine. Iโ€™m hers. End of story.โ€

โ€œWanna bet?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t gamble,โ€ I said smoothly, stepping closer. โ€œBut go on, if you like. Just knowโ€”I donโ€™t lose.โ€

โ€œThen youโ€™d better get used to it, Morozov. Because youโ€™re going to lose this time.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t be daft.โ€ I tilted my head. โ€œOr is it jealousy?โ€

โ€œJealous? Of you?โ€ He laughed darkly. โ€œCome off it. Thatโ€™s rich.โ€

โ€œOh really? Canโ€™t imagine anyone wanting someone as bloody infuriating as you.โ€

A wicked grin twisted his lips, eyes glinting.

โ€œYour sister doesnโ€™t seem to mind.โ€

Waitโ€”what?

Silence. My breath caught.

He smirked, satisfied, and turned on his heel, striding away in Genevieve’s flat.

That cocky bastร rd.

So thatโ€™s how Rory knows him.

Sheโ€™sโ€ฆ seeing him?

                                      โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†

Itโ€™s been two weeks since I found out my sister is dating Everett Walkerโ€”Genevieveโ€™s brother. The man who absolutely loathรฉs me.

He doesnโ€™t hide it either. Tells her straight to her faceโ€”in my presenceโ€”โ€œI donโ€™t see why youโ€™re with him.โ€

And I canโ€™t even pretend not to understand. I broke his little sisterโ€™s heart years ago. As an older brother, heโ€™s right to hร te me. Iโ€™d do the same. Probably worse.

In fact, I would definitely do worse. If he breaks Roryโ€™s heartโ€”I wonโ€™t think twice. Iโ€™ll slรญt his throat, brother to Genevieve or not.

I know he thinks the same way about me.

Oddly enough, his hatrรฉdโ€™s been a good distraction from the Blade situation. That bastร rd still hasnโ€™t said who he is. Still havenโ€™t found the heartโ€”or the nerveโ€”to kรญll him.

Maybe the betrร yal still stings. Or maybe some part of me thinks he might still prove useful.

I donโ€™t know how.

But I hope itโ€™s for usโ€”the Bratva.

And not against.
