Between 2 Hearts – Episode 29

        Weeks later, Naomi and Mia had settled into their new jobs, finding a comfortable rhythm in their daily routines. Meanwhile, Nathan had returned to his home state to complete his master’s degree. He dedicated himself to his studies, determined to excel. Finally, the day arrived when he finished his exams, and the results were nothing short of remarkable – he had achieved flying colors and was awarded the top spot.

His family’s pride was palpable. They had always known Nathan was driven, but his outstanding achievement was a testament to his hard work and dedication. The family decided to celebrate this milestone with a party, but they wanted to wait until after his father’s campaign came to a close.

The day of the election arrived, and the community came out in full force to cast their votes. Naomi and Mia joined the crowds at the voting center, eager to exercise their right to choose their leaders. Nathan’s father, surrounded by supporters, was confident and hopeful. The atmosphere was lively, yet peaceful, with no signs of trouble or conflict.

As the day drew to a close, the voters had their say, and the results would have to wait until the next day. The community dispersed, each person returning home, anxiously awaiting the outcome that would shape their future.

    The next day, families gathered around their TVs, eagerly waiting for the governorship election results. Hours of anticipation finally ended when Nathan’s father was declared the winner. The city erupted in excitement, with many rejoicing at the prospect of new change.

In Nathan’s home, his family was overjoyed. “You did it, Dad!” Anna exclaimed, rushing to hug him tightly. His wife congratulated him warmly, and the celebrations continued.

Days later, a grand celebration was held in a big field, attended by throngs of supporters. Nathan’s father, flanked by his family, including Diva, Elora, and Alex, addressed the crowd, expressing gratitude to the royal house for their support and the people who voted for him. Security was tight, with bodyguards stationed everywhere, although the king and queen were noticeably absent.

Naomi and Mia, seated among the crowd, joined in the jubilation. Cameras and press were present, capturing every moment of the event. The atmosphere was electric, with the people clearly thrilled with their choice.

   As Nathan’s father continued to address the crowd, promising to serve their demands, the excitement in the air was visible .Naomi and Mia, caught up in the infectious energy, were singing and dancing along with the rest of the crowd, holding up banners and jubilating.

Unbeknownst to them, a camera had focused on them, and their faces were now being displayed on the big screen. Nathan and Alex couldn’t help but smile at their enthusiastic antics, and Anna and Josh were equally entertained. However, Diva and Elora seemed unconcerned.

Naomi and Mia remained oblivious to their sudden appearance on the big screen, too caught up in the moment to notice. Nathan’s father continued to speak, his voice steady and calm, despite the noise and excitement of the crowd.

 “She kinda looks familiar.”Anna leaned in to whisper to Nathan,

   Nathan turned to her, a smile still on his face, before refocusing on the screen. The camera eventually moved on to capture other jubilant crowd members, but the image of Naomi and Mia’s joyful faces lingered, a testament to the infectious enthusiasm of the celebration.

  Mia was helping out in the kitchen when her mother asked her to retrieve something from her room. She left the kitchen and returned a while later, almost bumping into Nathan, who was standing behind her.

  “Nathan,” she said, surprised to see him.

“Someone finally got my name right this time,” he teased, and  Mia smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. “Did I startle you?” He asked, his eyes crinkling at the corners.

“Um, no, just surprised to see you here,” she replied.

 “Why? Am I not allowed here or what?”

 “Um, not really. This place is for staff quarters, and someone like you isn’t typically allowed here.”

“Hmm, I didn’t know that. So, am I in trouble?” he asked, his tone playful.

 “No.”

The two stood there for a moment, the silence between them awkward. Nathan broke the silence.

  “Do you know this is the first time we’ve finally had a chance to talk? Whenever I try to talk to you, you’re always in a rush to leave. Sometimes I wonder if I make you uncomfortable.”

“Um, no.”

“So, why do you always run away from me?”

 “I don’t.” She said and gulped nervously.

 “You do. You’re always in a haste to leave.”

Just as Mia was about to respond, Diva interrupted from behind, her voice cold and menacing. 

 “What’s going on here?”

Mia felt a surge of anxiety as Diva’s gaze landed on her. Nathan, however, remained calm.

  “Nothing, just having a chat.” He said firmly.

Mia took the opportunity to make a hasty exit.

  “Um, excuse me.” She rushed off, leaving Nathan and Diva standing alone.

  After some minutes, Mia was heading back to the staff quarters when a guard called out to her from behind.

  “Princess Diva summoned you to her room,” he said, then turned and walked away.

Mia sighed, knowing she was in for a warning. She made her way to Diva’s room and knocked on the door. After a brief wait, Diva’s voice bid her enter.

“You sent for me, my princess,” Mia said, her head bowed in respect. Diva was seated on her couch, her face stern.

“What were you doing with my fiancé?” Diva asked, her voice cold. Mia remained silent. “I asked a question, you dimwit!” She yelled, but Mia kept her calm demeanor.

“Nothing, your Highness,” shr replied, her voice steady.

“You think I don’t know what you’re trying to do? The next time I see you getting close to him or even talking with him, you won’t believe what I’ll do to you.”

Mia rolled her eyes and turned to leave before Diva could say another word. This only seemed to enrage Diva further.

As Mia walked down the passageway, she murmured to herself. She almost bumped into Alex, who was coming out of a nearby room.

  “Am sorry, your Highness,” she said.

“What’s wrong? Why are you in a rush?” He asked, his tone firm.

“Um, nowhere,”  she replied, trying to brush him off.

“Are you okay?” Alex asked, concerned.

“Yes, I am fine,” she said, turning to leave. However, Alex called her back.

“Is there something else, your Highness?” Shr asked, and  Alex hesitated, then let out a sigh. “Well, if you’re wondering about Naomi, she’s fine. She got a better job now, and she’s doing well, as is her father,” Mia said, a smile on her face.

“Um, that’s good to hear,” Alex replied, his face softening.

Mia continued, “It’s good that you still care for her. Thank you so much.”

 “She’s still among the people I care about.”

“I’m happy to hear that. I must take my leave now.” With that, she turned and walked away.

  

   Alex returned to his room, finding Nathan standing on the balcony, sipping from his drink.

  “Sorry for the delay,” Alex said, moving to join him.

“I guess the meeting with your dad took too long,” Nathan said, his eyebrow raised in inquiry.

“Not really, I just happened to bump into Mia on my way and we chatted for a moment,” he explained.

“Okay,” he replied.

“So, you’re resuming fully at your father’s company,” He said, and Nathan nodded in confirmation.

“Does Mia know you’re the one who gave her the job at your father’s company?” Alex asked.

 “Does Naomi also know you’re the CEO of the company she’s working for, and you’re the one who gave her the job?”Nathan countered with a question of his own.

“She’ll know by tomorrow, I’m resuming fully.”

“I just wish to see the shocked look on her face when she sees you.”

“Don’t worry about me, worry about yours too,” Alex said with a smirk.

“I’m not worried,” he replied, and Alex chuckled and rolled his head. “Should I invite her to the party this weekend? Will she come?”

 “Why? Is there something going on between you two?” Alex tease.

 “I’m just curious, you know.”

“Ask her then,” He suggested.

“I will,” he said, a sly grin spreading across his face. “I know she won’t come alone. She’ll definitely ask her sister to come along with her, which I know you’ll be happy to see too.”

The two men exchanged a knowing glance, and their laughter filled the air.
