Freya!
Freya couldn’t sleep. She held her necklace in her hand, staring at Olsen’s picture. It was a gift given to her by Olsen on her 21st birthday. He had bought two, one had his picture while the other had hers.
“You once told me I was the best thing that ever happened to you, but now I am beginning to wonder if those words were only pranks. You have decided to let me face this ugly fate you created, stuck in a world of hate and envy, what good am I to benefit here?”
She reflected her experiences from day one till now, none could be accounted to be a good memory worth thinking about. “My life has been a rough one, all thanks to you.”
She was about to sleep when she heard the sound of a stopping car. She went towards the window to take a look, it was Vincenzo and Kelly. They had returned home, drunk and waisted. She ignored them, returning back to bed to get a good night’s sleep.
******
Morning came faster than expected. The maids were all up, ready for the day’s job. Freya went to arrange Vincenzo’s room. She offered a knock on the door, “Come in.”
Freya walked in but froze immediately her eyes went on Vincenzo’s abs. He wasn’t putting on any shirt, but trousers. She was confused whether to leave or stay back and act like she didn’t see him. But what she got was totally different from her suggestions.
She was staring at him. Her mind and attention were all focused on him, and she couldn’t take her eyes off. She didn’t realize how long she’d been staring at him until he snapped his fingers at her.
“You’re supposed to be dressing the room and not standing there like a moron.” He reminded.
She mentally cursed herself for betraying her. She was fighting the urge not to look at him, but each second that passed by, she couldn’t help but look.
She was still in the act that she didn’t notice him standing behind her. When she attempted to steal a glance, she flinched, almost screaming her lungs out when he quickly covered her mouth with his hand to avoid waking Kelly from sleep.
She has never experienced a high blood pressure until now, she felt her heart pounding in her throat. How did he get this close to her without a sound? She thought mentally as she glared into his emotionless eyes.
“Don’t get too distracted, sweetheart, or you’ll be losing your head.” He threatened.
She felt cold shivers run down her spine, a shiver that screamed of fear and tension. Those words were more terrifying than staring at a monster in the basement. It was more like he was timing her or some thing, probably waiting for a day to strike unaware.
What was she thinking? She questioned herself. She knew she had gone too far with staring, and now she got the most terrifying word of her life.
“Don’t get too distracted, sweetheart, or you’ll be losing your head.”
After work, she decided to take a walk around the mansion, stopping at the garden. The last time she visited, she was with Myra. She did have a good conversation with her, she was beginning to miss those days when she would sleep on her couch, waking up whenever she wanted.
But now, every act of her life is done by time. Life wouldn’t be so miserable if Kelly isn’t involved. And some how, Vincenzo wasn’t very scary to her despite how ruthless he is, Kelly is.
Meanwhile, Kelly woke up, feeling hungry. She didn’t see any food on the table, she was so angry that she picked up her phone, dialing Vincenzo’s number. Vincenzo didn’t take time to reply to her call, so when she did, he picked up immediately.
“Hey,” He sounded.
“Babe, I’m hungry.” She was sounding painful, and he could sense it in her voice.
“Call Freya to get you some thing to eat.”
“She’s not here. I have asked the other maids for her but they have no idea where she is.” She lied. She recalled her conversation with her friends the previous day, how she had promised to invite them to come see Freya.
She knew laying any more complaint would cause him to return home, so she made him know it wasn’t some thing to be much bothered about.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make an omelet myself. Sorry for disturbing you.” She cuts the call, phoning Carol. “Guys, you should be on your way now.”
She left to the bathroom to take her bath and a quick brush. She left the bathroom, picking one of Vincenzo’s t-shirts and her shorts. She left to the kitchen, ordering the chef to make her omelet.
Leaving for the sitting room, she threw herself on the couch, picking the remote from the center table. She was checking on her time when her friends would show up, hoping they wouldn’t be a little late to Vincenzo’s return.
She realized she hasn’t seen Freya since she woke up, so she sent a maid who turns out to be Myra to call her. Myra, knowing fully well we’re Freya, went around the house, yet came back reporting not to have seen her.
She didn’t want Kelly to know, she felt Freya needed a moment to be lonely and free from Kelly’s disturbance. Kelly, being so desperate to see her before her friends showed up, demanded Myra to go back searching for her.
Myra finally goes to the garden to meet her. She sees her sitting in the garden, her mind drifting to nowhere. Myra watched her, feeling pitiful for her. “Kelly wants to see you.” Myra informed her.
“Has she been looking for me?” Freya asked.
“Yes, but I told her I couldn’t find you.”
“Oh, no! She’s gonna think I’m running away. I’m sure she must have called Mr Vincenzo.” She stands up.
“I didn’t tell her you’re here because I felt you needed to be alone.”
“Myra, don’t pity me.”
“I’m not feeling pity for you, I just feel like you deserve a break from that bitch.”
“I understand, but…”
“FREYA!!!!!” They could hear Kelly’s voice.
They both exchanged glances. “I’m dead.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Freya shivered as she stared at the ground.
“Where the f+k have you been all these while?” She questioned.
“I… I…” She stuttered, not knowing what to say. “You what?” She looked at Myra. “And what kept you so long to bring her to me?”
Myra too buried her gaze to the ground, not wanting to expose where Freya had been all these while.
“I am talking to a human being and not some moron!” She barked. “Where have you two been? I know you had an idea where she’s been but you refused to tell me, pretending not to know any thing!”
“I had no idea.” Myra said, but Kelly didn’t believe her.
She had already stood up from the couch, ready to spank her hand on her when Freya admitted where she had been. “I was in the garden, and Myra had no idea about it.”
Myra threw at her an angry glare, but Freya thought speaking out was the best thing to do and save her from Kelly’s spank.
“She told me you’ve been looking for me. She did warn me why I had to stay in the garden while you needed my attention.”
“Ma’am…” Myra was about to speak but Kelly shushed her.
“I don’t want to hear a word from your mouth.” She returned her gaze to Freya. “So, you intentionally had to stay in the garden in order to avoid errands?”
“No I…”
“You lazy moron!” She cursed. “I knew you had a different agenda since Enzo brought you out of that cage. From the time you tried running away, now you’re busy stalking every where to find a means to run away right?”
“I wasn’t intending to run away. I only felt like receiving fresh air, that’s all.”
“You liar!” She spat. “Deadly moron with an evil agenda! I don’t trust you a bit, I just don’t know why Enzo still left you to live. You’re supposed to be dead. You’re supposed to be out of here! You and that murderer you call a brother.”
Freya tried holding her anger, but the moment Kelly made that statement, she couldn’t hold back but to fire her with words. “I can stand you calling me names, Kelly, but what I won’t stand is you involving my brother. Olsen murdering my boyfriend had nothing to do with you. You aren’t even related to Dento to begin with, not even to the Master. You’re just a figure to satisfy his urges, that’s all.”
“What did you just say?” She sparked. “How dare you?!”
Meanwhile, they didn’t notice when Carol and Danielle walked in. They’ve been quietly listening to their conversation.
“Don’t you ever lay your hand on me.” She warned. “Stop trying to act like a super nice girlfriend, we both know you aren’t. So, for the love of God, don’t try to act like you actually care about Dento’s loss. I’m the one more hurt here because he is my boyfriend, so don’t start up with the fake acting cos it doesn’t fit you.”
This got Kelly speechless, she couldn’t defend herself but burn in rage. Freya didn’t show any sign of remorse at her action, she walked away with pride and Myra followed her.
It was after they had left that Kelly noticed her friends standing, watching her with a surprise look. “She really has a bad mouth, I’ll admit.” Carol blurted.
“And she’s smart too. I kinda like her naughtiness, I’ll admit too.” Danielle chuckled, collapsing on the couch. “I’m surprised, you know. I thought you’re brave enough to shut her up, but it turns out that I was wrong. Take a look at the way she spoke to you, I saw how speechless you were to talk back. And from the look of things, it seems like she’s right about what she said.”
Carol looked at her. “Do you have a different agenda to be with Enzo?” She questioned her, not expecting any reply from her.
“For the first time I’m in support of Dani.” Carol agreed. “Is there some thing you aren’t telling us, Kelly? Some thing we need to know.”
“There’s nothing I’m keeping away from you guys!” She said almost like a yell.
“Then why couldn’t you defend yourself before the girl? Why couldn’t you shut her up as her mistress, rather you let her do the opposite.”
Kelly was speechless to explain herself out of the question. What if she does have a different motive to be with Enzo? What if Freya was right?
However, Myra was shocked at Freya’s boldness. She didn’t see it coming. She was thinking Freya would play the saint who would keep quiet and watch some one step on her without making a reaction. But to her greatest surprise, Freya did the unexpected.
“You were brave back there.” She admitted.
“I wasn’t, I was being rational.” She said with regrets. “I don’t blame myself for what happened back there, she made me do it. I’m only troubled at what Mr Vincenzo will do to me when he returns. You know, he believes every thing she says, whether true or lies.”
“You don’t have to be scared, Freya, that’s why I insist you should speak the truth whenever he questions you before his girlfriend. Stop hiding things from him, taking the blame for some one who doesn’t deserve it. Some one who wishes you’re as good as dead. She doesn’t worth it.”
Freya turned to look at Myra, hot tears already stained her eyes. “Why are you being so nice to me?” She asked, unable to withhold the running tears.
“Because you are my friend. And friends help each other. I never wanted to be close to any one, but after that night Mr Polio claimed to take you with him, I saw the tears in your eyes. I saw the innocence and I knew you weren’t what they say you are. You are more than that.”
“Thank you so much, Myra. You have given me hope. What would I have become if not for you? Thank you.”
Myra went to her, pulling her into her arms. “You’re welcome.”
