โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

~ Genevieve ~

It has never surprised me that some people lack common senseโ€”most of the human race, in fact. But anyway, because I refused to spend another Friday night sitting at home alone, I decided to head over to the party Liam had invited me to.

Yes, that same Liam to whom I administered a little wรณund on his arm a few weeks ago.

Earlier today, he approached me while I was reading one of the schoolโ€™s assigned literature novels in an empty classroom and invited me to his house for the party.

I was quite taken aback that he would do that; I mean, heโ€™s just come back from recovery. But I agreed because, well, why not?

If he wants to be dร ft and invite the person who can and will stร b him again if he tries any nonseรฑse, that’s his problem, not mine.

Upon arriving with Jules, Sloane, and her rather insufferable boyfriend, Christian, we discovered that the party had been moved to one of the most popular pubs downtown because โ€œhis parents have guests over.โ€

Who does that?

It is extremely rรบde to make me drive all the way from my house to this place only to have to drive to the pub. This could have been avoided if he were sensible enough to check the flippรญng schedule of his parents’ guests.

Anyway, Iโ€™m fine and absolutely not annoyed at all, even after all the unnecessary stress.

I drove down to the pรบb and finally felt at ease when I saw the other students from Silverlake Academy all happy and dancing.

Jules, Sloane, and I settled in a corner while Christian gallantly went up to fetch our drinks, pretending to be a gentleman.

Heโ€™d better not mรฉss up my drink order.

The girls and I chatted about everything we could think of as we patiently waited for him to return from his seemingly endless journey.

After a while, I caught sight of him out of the corner of my eye and paused my conversation to check if it was indeed himโ€”and it was.

Christian approached us, balancing a tray of four drinks. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, I got held up in a conversation,โ€ he said quickly as we each took our drinks from the tray.

โ€œAh, no worries. We didnโ€™t notice,โ€ I replied, fully aware heโ€™d know I didnโ€™t mean it.

He did.

โ€œWho invited you again?โ€

โ€œLiam.โ€

โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s over there.โ€ I pointed my index finger at the culprit responsible for my presence here tonight, even though I knew it was rรบde.

โ€œSo?โ€

โ€œWell, go ask him yourself.โ€

โ€œArenโ€™t you a barrel of sunshine and rainbows?โ€ I assumed his sarcasm was meant to sting, given the look of expectation he was giving me.

โ€œEww. Iโ€™m more like a barrel of stormy nights and chaรณs. Sounds fun, doesnโ€™t it?โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re weรญrd.โ€

โ€œNot weรญrder than you, thank goodness.โ€

โ€œYou think.โ€

โ€œNo, I know so.โ€

My head whipped around to Sloane when I heard her groan. โ€œWhy are you two always bickering?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t like him,โ€ I replied with a shrug.

I hร te lying, so I donโ€™t do it.

โ€œItโ€™s not like I like you either,โ€ Christian had the audacity to retort.

โ€œIs this the moment Iโ€™m supposed to start crying?โ€ I asked sarcastically, my brow furrowing in mockery.

โ€œVie.โ€ I let out a single breath at the sound of my best friendโ€™s resigned tone. โ€œPlease stop.โ€

โ€œHe started it.โ€

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter.โ€

โ€œNo, you started it.โ€ Sloane interjected immediately as I opened my mouth to say something to Jules. My head snapped to her in disbelief; surprise, she was indeed talking to me. โ€œYes, you did.โ€

โ€œI did?โ€ I tilted my head to the side, my eyes locked on hers. The annoyance I felt earlier was slowly escalating, and if I werenโ€™t careful, Iโ€™d explรณde with rร ge. โ€œAnd how did I start it?โ€ I managed to keep my voice even and calm.

โ€œGennyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œNo, Jules, not now. Iโ€™m just curious about how I started it; I have the right to know, donโ€™t I?โ€ The smile I plastered on my face was anything but friendly. โ€œSo, Sloane, what did I do to your boyfriend?โ€

How dare she lay accusร tions on me because of her pathรฉtic excuse of a boyfriend?

Heโ€™s a complete twรญt.

โ€œDrop it, Babe.โ€ Christian muttered to Sloane, who was also glaring at me.

โ€œItโ€™s not that deep, Genny,โ€ she said.

โ€œItโ€™s not?โ€

โ€œNo. You did start it when you were being sarcastic to him.โ€

My eyes genuinely widened in surprise as soon as those words left her lamentร ble excuse for a mouth. I chuckled lightly. “Am I not allowed to be sarcastic anymore? Who made that law?”

“That isn’t what I meant.”

Then what on earth did she mean?

I didnโ€™t instigate whatever Christian and I had a moment ago, and I refuse to take the blame for it.

“Sloane, I like you, which is odd because I don’t usually like people, so next time, make sure you mean what you say.” I said calmly, and without wasting another moment, I left the place.

Perhaps I shouldnโ€™t have come here in the first place. I should have just stayed at home with my books, but I knew that if I did that, Iโ€™d end up thinking about Dominic.

And I certainly donโ€™t want to think about anything to do with Dominic Morozov, not after what happened yesterday.

I was hรบrt and embarrassed for even attempting to kiss him. But who does he think he is, resisting Genevieve King?

Can you guess what he said when I tried to kiss him?

We canโ€™t.

He actually said we canโ€™t.

โ€œWe canโ€™t,โ€ my foot.

His self-control is becoming maddeรฑingly irritatiรฑg because I know he wants me. He canโ€™t hide it, from his body language to everything he does for me.

I was so pleased yesterday when he got me a room that I overstepped and crossed that line I know I shouldnโ€™t have yet. I could see he wanted to kiss me back, but at the very last moment, he changed his mind and said, โ€œWe canโ€™t.โ€

That handsome jรฉrk.

How dare he?

I will make him pay. I swear, I will. By the time Iโ€™m done with him, he wonโ€™t know what hรญt him. I will absolutely brรฉak him down until heโ€™s nothing but a puddle in the palm of my hand.

Thatโ€™s Genevieve Kingโ€™s vow.

โ€œHey, Gen.โ€ That voice belonged to someone I despise, and I didnโ€™t bother turning round.

โ€œGo away, Liam,โ€ I said, sipping my drink and looking everywhere but at him.

โ€œYou look lovely.โ€

Does he think I donโ€™t know that?

I mean, after the hours I spent making myself look stunning, does he really think I am oblivious to how dashing I look?

Honestly, itโ€™s me. Iโ€™m the best dresser I know.

โ€œYou wonโ€™t talk to me?โ€ Liam stepped in front of me, his face expectant. When I didnโ€™t say anything, he continued, โ€œGen, say something. Anything.โ€

โ€œDo you want to be stabbรฉd again?โ€ I complied with his wishes.

โ€œBy you? Yes.โ€

โ€œOh, so you can talk because youโ€™re healed now.โ€

โ€œUh-huh, I healed faster for you.โ€

โ€œDid you now?โ€

โ€œYep.โ€

โ€œDoes that mean the stabbiรฑg wasnโ€™t enough to push you away?โ€

โ€œNothing can push me away from you, Gen.โ€

โ€œYou called me a bรญ+ch.โ€

โ€œSlip of the tongue.โ€

โ€œSo, that means you can slip out of my sight, yes?โ€

Liam laughed as if Iโ€™d told a joke. โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œNo?โ€

โ€œNo. I like you, Gen.โ€

โ€œI know; I like me too. Whatโ€™s your point?โ€

โ€œOf course, you like yourself. Youโ€™re a hot as hรฉll masterpiece.โ€ He said this in that peculiar calm voice he uses whenever he talks to me, earlier before the stabbiรฑg incident.

โ€œThanks,โ€ I beamed the fakest smile I could muster, earning another chuckle from him. โ€œNow, go away.โ€

โ€œDo you want another drink?โ€

โ€œI want you to go away.โ€

โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t a yes or no question, Liam,โ€ I snapped, taking a step forward.

His whole face lit up in the brightest smile Iโ€™d ever seen on him, causing me to give him a rather weirded-out look.

โ€œWhat now?โ€ I asked, folding my arms across my chest.

โ€œYou said my name.โ€

I did?

โ€œYeah, and?โ€

โ€œIt sounded wonderful.โ€

I scoffed. โ€œIs that the line you use on the other girls?โ€

โ€œWhat? No.โ€

โ€œWell, guess what.โ€ I paused only to continue immediately, โ€œI do not care.โ€

โ€œI like you,โ€ Liam unhelpfully reiterated, prompting me to roll my eyes.

โ€œYouโ€™ve already said that.โ€

โ€œGive me a chance, and Iโ€™ll show you Iโ€™m good enough for you.โ€

Alright, now thatโ€™s amusing.

Laughter bubbled out of me as I took him in from head to toe, unable to contain myself. “You, good enough for me? Oh, please! I wouldnโ€™t even let my cat date you.”

A frown settled on his face. “You donโ€™t have a cat?”

“Exactly. Now, shoo.”

It seemed he didnโ€™t know how to give up, or perhaps he simply enjoyed being treated the way I did, for he took two steps closer, causing me to lean back to look at him, since he was taller than I was.

To be fair, Liam is a very handsome lad, and thatโ€™s the problem with him. He thinks that because he has his looks, he can do whatever the hรฉll he pleases with girls.

If only he were a bit more mature, perhaps I could convince my brain to entertain the idea of liking him or something. With his green eyes and towering height, heโ€™s every secondary school girlโ€™s dream boy.

And another thing, Iโ€™m not into schoolboys.

They have no taste whatsoever; bland isnโ€™t my thing. I want dร nger, spice, and tension, and I canโ€™t have that with secondary school boys who donโ€™t know their left from their right.

The next words that left his mouth had me closing the gap between us. “You like me. Youโ€™re just playing hard to get.”

What?

I do not like him.

I canโ€™t bring myself to like him.

He is simply not my type.

“You love the chase, so you keep refusing me,” he added.

I do love the chase, but not just his.

“You dream a lot, Liam.”

“I do. I see you in them.”

“Well, I hope you can quickly unsee me, so you can stop being delusional.” My eyes bore into his as we maintained direct eye contact. We were breathing the same air; thatโ€™s how close we were. “I donโ€™t like you. I will never like you. Not as a friend, and definitely not more. So, for the sake of whatever god you worship, stop this.”

His green eyes shone instead of dimming, but I didnโ€™t let my surprise show. Another vexing smile spread across his face as his hand lifted and inched towards my face.

Heโ€™s doing it again.

How can one be so dร ft as to repeat the action that got him stabbรฉd?

Why canโ€™t he just get it stuck in his little brain that I donโ€™t want or like people touching my hair?

My eyes clearly didnโ€™t warn him to stop, nor did the wรณund on his arm, because his fingers brushed my hair behind my ear with that boyish grin on his lips.

As soon as I opened my mouth to put him in his place, my phone vibrated in my hand, and I debated whether to check it or deal with him first.

Deciding on the latter, I let my face show my displeasure, disinterest, and annoyance as I readied my next words in my mind. “You…”

My phone vibrated in my hand again, cutting me off from my rather clever comeback. Rolling my eyes, I pressed the button that illuminated the screen and tapped on the message notification.

The excitement mixed with mischief that surged through me as my eyes scanned the two messages sent by Dominic Morozov was impossible to describe.

Hot Villaรญn โ‰ˆ Step away from him.

Hot Villaรญn โ‰ˆ Now.

Heโ€™s here.

Is he stalkiรฑg me again?

It could just be a coincidence of being in the same place at the same time. No big deal, right?

I looked up from my phone to find Liam still lingering and gave him a big smile.

Letโ€™s have a bit of fun.

“What if I said youโ€™re right?” I asked Liam, sensually sliding my finger across his clothed chest.

“What?” Liam sounded genuinely surprised by it.

If Dominic Morozov thinks he canโ€™t keep up with his own stรบpid self-control, then that also means I can make it difficult for him, even if it involves flirting with a boy.

“What if I like you? What will you do?” I continued, knowing he had his lovely eyes fixed on me right now.

I could feel it. It was practically burรฑing a hole in my back.

I could also feel Liamโ€™s hand snake around my waist, and I literally cringed at the sensation. But I made the cringe look like interest as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

He will do something very soon.

“What do you want me to do?” Liam asked, unknowingly playing along with my game.

And because I already knew Dominic wouldnโ€™t let that happen, I replied with a seductive whisper in his ear. “Kiss me.”

I bet in five seconds, something will occur.

One.

Liam leaned his head closer to me, angling it so our lips would meet perfectly.

Two.

He even closed his eyes as he continued to lean down. Our lips were dangerรณusly inching towards each other and would touch at any moment.

Suddenly, all the lights went out, and I was yanked from Liam’s hold into Dominic’s familiar embrace. Although it was dark, Dominic led me somewhere, his large frame likely colliding with those who were throwing questions about the lights around.

And when I least expected it, my back hรญt the wall with a gentle push, and I gasped, looking up to meet his heated gaze.

Now, there was light, and I could see him. He looked as ravishing as he had yesterday, only a great deal hotter.

“Hi,” I said deliberately to intensify whatever that look was in his eyes.

“Don’t hi me, Genevieve.” His deep and hoarse voice always had an effect on me, and it did even now that I was cross with him. “What were you doing?”

“Being a child, what else?”

“Don’t do that,” he ordered.

“Do what?” I asked, fully aware of what he meant.

“Use my words against me,” Dominic replied, his voice darkening. I turned my head to see where we were, only for him to gently pinch my chin with his index and thumb to make me look back at him. “And look at me when I’m talking to you.”

We were alone in a part of the club I hadn’t known existed.

“Why?” I snapped, desperate to provoke him as much as I was irritated. “You know, other ladies your age would love to look at you. Why don’t you go and meet them?”

“Genevieve.” His tone was both a warning and a plea.

“What? Am I not allowed to flirt and kiss my peers now?”

He didn’t say a word, not even a syllable. Dominic simply held my gaze as he lifted his hands to cage me against the wall, as if I wasn’t already pinned.

“Huh?” I pressed.

With one hand above my head and the other resting on my waist, he locked our eyes. “Were you going to kiss him?”

“Yes,” I lied. “Why shouldn’t I?”

“And you were going to let him kiss you?”

“Yes.”

“And after that, what happens?” His voice was laced with anger now, his self-control slipping as he struggled not to stake his claim. “Do you go to his house or is it yours?”

“Whatever I do is none of your business, Dominic.”

“You’re wrong,” he blurted out.

“Yeah?” I pressed again, eager to see him lose that self-control of his. “Why?”

His golden-brown eyes darted between my eyes and lips, and I saw it againโ€”his desire that he was trying to cage. But with a single blink, it vanished as if it had never been there. “Come, I’ll drive you home.”

“Thanks for the offer, but I’ll have to decline.”

“Genevieve, can you stop being such a brร t?” he finally snapped.

I smiled, satisfied. “No, I’m just a child, aren’t I? Kids my age should be brร tty, Mr Morozov.”

“You won’t drop it, will you?” Dominic asked.

Drop it?

He rejected me yesterday; I should make him regret it. Does he have any idea how many boys and men want me, but I chose him?

He should consider himself lucky.

Yes, he should.

“No.”

“What can I do to make it up to you?” I shouldn’t have looked into his eyes because as soon as I did, I forgot I was supposed to be aรฑgry.

How can I not when heโ€™s looking at me like that?

Don’t react, Genevieve.

Don’t react.

Behave, Genevieve King.

“You can start with an apology.”

For a moment, he looked like he wanted to argue, but then he sighed, defeated. “I am sorry.”

“For what?” I needed to know he was aware of his mistake.

“Genevieve.”

“What? I’ll leave if you don’t answer me.”

“Fine,” he said. “I am sorry for yesterday. I shouldn’t have called you a child.”

That’s enough for now.

“Good.” I beamed at him, and he finally looked visibly relaxed. “Now, you can drive me home. I came in my car.”

“You drive me mร d,” I heard him mutter as I walked out of the corner.

Oh, darling, Iโ€™m only just beginning. This is going to be such fun.
