โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…โ˜…

Genevieve’s POV

Itโ€™s surprising how quickly time flies when youโ€™re surrounded by people you genuinely care about.

It wonโ€™t be long now before I graduate from secondary school and head off to my dream university. In precisely eight weeks, Iโ€™ll be done with everything secondary school, which is both exciting and overwhelming if I dwell on it for too long.

The final-year students of Silverlake Academy are preparing for our last examination before we officially graduate and escape this hรฉllhole of a school. While Iโ€™ve made sure to study as much as I can, Iโ€™ve also carved out time for Dominic.

He keeps asking me how school is and insists I focus on my studies rather than coming over to him, but I know he wouldnโ€™t manage a day without me.

Iโ€™m not even bragging.

Not to be dramatic, but I canโ€™t live without him either. Dominic Morozov doesnโ€™t just hold my heart; he possesses the key to my tranquility. Itโ€™s as if whenever heโ€™s with me, everything else dissolves into nothingnessโ€” that nothingness that makes life seem perfect.

Each time I find myself lost in simply staring at him like a lovesick puppy, I hastily avert my gaze before he catches me. Itโ€™s become a habit I canโ€™t shake off. I crave him in every conceivable way.

I want to be the reason behind his one-in-a-million smile, whether in person during our one-on-one chats or when we converse on the phone. I want to be the person he longs to be with every second of the day. I want to be his calm and also his stressโ€” because Iโ€™m sweet like that.

I want to be everything to him, just as he is to me. I want to be the one he ends up with in the long run. Iโ€™d give anything in the world for Dominic Morozov and I, Genevieve King, to be endgame.

Things are looking brighter these days, and the overwhelming urge to voice my deepest feelings to him grows stronger and more unbearable. With each passing day, I relate to him more and more. How on Earth does one manage to muster so much self-control not to act on their feelings?

I didnโ€™t know better when I was doing everything possible to coax him into letting go of his self-control by teasing and flirting with him. But now I do, and I donโ€™t think I can bear it any longer.

I just want to walk up to him and tell him straight to his face, โ€œI like you. I really like you. Like, like like you.โ€ Is that too many likes?

Ugh!

If the repetition of โ€œlikeโ€ is excessive, the confession will sound odd, like something out of a dreร dful cartoon. Or worse, a Hallmark film. I need to think of a better confession that doesnโ€™t highlight the fact that Iโ€™ve never confessed to anyone before.

Speaking of odd, Dominic seems strangely off lately. Although things between us have been going rather smoothlyโ€”perhaps too smoothly, in factโ€” I can tell something is troubling him. He claims itโ€™s work stress, but I know better than to believe that.

I might despรญse watching business news, but I know for certain that his companyโ€™s sales have been rising, so itโ€™s definitely not work-related stress. Several times, Iโ€™ve caught him lost in thought, whether heโ€™s with me or working in his study, and it pains me that I canโ€™t help him feel better.

If only he would just share his problems with me; it would make everything so much easier!

A shudder ran down my spine at the sudden ringing of my phone. I exhaled, shaking my head to clear the consuming thoughts, even if just for a moment. With one hand on the steering wheel, I tapped the answer icon with the other.

โ€œHey.โ€ The soothing sound of Dominicโ€™s voice reached my ears, causing a cheeky grin to spread across my face. โ€œYouโ€™ve made it to school, then?โ€

Weโ€™d spoken on the phone half an hour ago while I was getting ready for school. Remember when I mentioned that some things have become a habit?

Well, this is another of our routines, as we call each other every day without fail. Thereโ€™s not a morning that goes by without us speakingโ€”whether I call him or he calls me, we must check in with one another before our day officially begins.

Emphasis on the must.

I shook my head, allowing a chuckle to escape me upon realising he couldnโ€™t see me. โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œWhy not?โ€

โ€œI stopped for coffee.โ€

Dominic let out a sigh just as I heard a door close. โ€œArenโ€™t you running late?โ€

โ€œNot really. My first class starts at eight; Iโ€™ve still got thirty minutes.โ€ I replied. โ€œWhat about you?โ€

โ€œIโ€™ve just arrived at work.โ€

โ€œDid you eat breakfast?โ€

โ€œNot yet.โ€

I hissed, frustrated that I had to keep reminding him about one single thing every soddiรฑg day. “Dominic…”

“Don’t worry about me, Genevieve.”

Easy for him to say.

How can I not worry about him when heโ€™s behaving like a child?

How hard is it to eat breakfast before heading out of the house? I mean, itโ€™s fine if you do it once or twice, but thatโ€™s the limit.

And because he just had to be observant to every little thing about me, he let out a soft hum and said with certainty, “You’re mร d at me.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“I think you do.” His knowing voice should annoy me a bit more than it actually does, but it makes me happy that he knows me so well. “Whenever you’re upset, you huff and puff like a train, and you scoff as well.”

“I donโ€™t.”

“You do.”

“Well, itโ€™s your fault.”

“How is it my fault that you huff and puff when youโ€™re angry?”

“Because you make me angry by spewing out really annoying things, Dominic.”

“But what did I say?”

How dare he act clueless now?

How very dare he play that game with me at this moment?

With the annoyance simmering deep within my soul, I snapped. “You…” Only to stop suddenly when I noticed a white truck that had been tailing me swerve the same way I just had.

“Vixen? You okay?”

“I think Iโ€™m being followed.”

Itโ€™s almost unbelievably comical how nonchalant I sounded. Maybe itโ€™s because Iโ€™ve hung out with a dangรฉrous man; I donโ€™t see daรฑger until itโ€™s standing right before me, meaning itโ€™s too late, in case you didnโ€™t get it.

From the other end, I heard Dominic rise to his feet, panic and concern lacing his voice as he exclaimed, “What?!”

Oh, I shouldn’t worry about you, but you can worry about me. Really classy, Dominic Morozov, really classy.

“I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure a white truck behind me is following me.”

“Where are you?”

“On the road.”

“Genevieve, Iโ€™m serious.”

“What? Iโ€™m still driving.”

“I know that!”

“Donโ€™t yell at me.”

“I wouldnโ€™t be yelling at you if you told me where the hell you are.” Dominic rasped, the fright in his voice becoming even more pronounced. Upon sensing that he might have yelled again, he let out a breath, obviously trying to calm himself. “Vixen, please, where are you?”

“Eleven minutes away from school.”

“Are you with the knรญfe?”

It didnโ€™t take a genius to know what kรฑife he was talking about. The same kรฑife I always take to school because Iโ€™m still in awe of the masterpiece design of the handle.

“Yeah, why?” I asked. “Am I about to get kidรฑapped? My first class is literature; gosh, Iโ€™m going to miss it.”

“How is that more important than your life?”

Before I could open my mouth to respond, the truck sped up, sensing I was about to do the same, and overtook me. Just when I was about to relax at the sight of it retreating, the truck zoomed back, colliding with my car.

A cough escaped me as my head slammed down on the steering wheel. Luckily, my phone was on loudspeaker, so I heard the last thing Dominic said before my car door was yanked open.

“Iโ€™m coming, please be alright.”

Those last words echoed in my head even as I struggled against the man gripping me tightly. No matter how hard I tried, I knew there was no way I could overpower the two men on my own, so I saved my strength for later.

“Easy there, beautiful.” The stรบpid, idiรณtic bastร rd who didnโ€™t even think to cover his face so I wouldnโ€™t recognise him after I was freed said, dragging me over to the truck.

I retched at the sound of his voice and at him calling me that. I mean, yes, I know Iโ€™m beautiful, but I donโ€™t need a kidnappรฉr telling me that.

Seconds before I was tossed like a used doll into the open doors of the truck, I scanned my surroundings for the last time, noting that my car was the only one on the road.

It was also damagรฉd!

That gives me all the more reason to make them pay a heavy price. Not only are they kidnappiรฑg me, Genevieve King, but they also had the audacity to ruiรฑ my car.

Itโ€™s the latest edition Audi, for heavenโ€™s sake!

“Arenโ€™t you going to make me pass out?” I just had to ask because what are they, bloรณdy amateurs? They looked at me like Iโ€™d said something surprising. “What? Is this your first time kidnappiรฑg?”

F+ckรญng imbecilรฉs.
