{NEXT DAY~CADEN’S HOUSE~8AM}

Caden lay on his side facing Emily.

She was fast asleep, her breathing soft, one of her arms was tucked beneath the pillow, the other resting loosely against her waist.

Her features looked fragile and innocent.

His eyes traced her face slowly, her lips are slightly parted, the curve of her sharp nose, the crease between her brows, He reached out to brush a strand of hair away from her face.

She murmured something in her sleep and shifted closer to him making him smile at the little gesture.

How has he never seen this part of her before?

Caden was still lost in Emily when his phone vibrated on the nightstand.

Caden frowned slightly, careful not to wake her, he reached for it.

When he looked at his screen his chest tightened and a frown appeared on his face.

It was a picture of Emily and James sent by Lia.

Their hands intertwined as they looked at each other.

Caden’s jaw clenched as he stared at the picture, he tightened his grip around the phone.

Beneath the picture was a single message

“You should ask your wife what she’s doing with James Cater”

Caden could literally hear Lia’s voice as he read the message.

His gaze turned back to a sleeping Emily unaware of the trouble that had stirred up.

Betrayal burned hot in his chest, sharp and unforgiving, he had told her to stay away from James but she still talked to him and even held his fuçking hands.

The picture was clearly taken in the parking lot of her work place.

The thought of James knowing where she works coiling deep jealousy in his gut.

He slipped out of the bed, his expression was unreadable as he turned away, his phone still clenched in his hand as he stared at Emily.

Caden walked into the bathroom and shut the door behind him.

{KINGSTON ENTERPRISES}

Anthony walked into the conference room with a huge frown on his face, he saw the news when he woke up and he was already working to take it down but the board members still demanded a meeting.

There was supposed to be a meeting that morning about postponing the election and the news of Anthony just made the meeting even more important.

“Everything is under control” Anthony said immediately as he sat down.

“It’s not about everything being under control, this has planted a deep doubt in our buyers hearts” one of the members said.

“I hope it’s not true Anthony,” another said with a raised eyebrow.

“Of course it’s not! I’m not that kind of person” Anthony insisted and Caden scoffed.

All eyes turned to him but he said nothing, he really didn’t want to be here right now.

He was looking forward to this meeting but after what he saw this morning, he completely lost interest.

“This is bad for business, we would have to postpone the election, we don’t need any more attention” another board member said and Anthony rubbed his temples.

“We can’t,” Anthony insisted.

“We don’t have a choice, it’s not debatable, anymore attention to the company isn’t good, till this is settled, the election isn’t happening” the man snapped.

“Alright” Anthony said in defeat, he looked at a quiet Caden who he expected to be smiling but he wasn’t.

Caden’s eyes were on James, anger written all over it, but James seemed oblivious, he was angry about the postponed election.

“Caden, see me in my office after this meeting,” Anthony said and stood up.

Caden left the room next and went to his office, he didn’t even bother to go see Anthony like he had been ordered.

_

{ANTHONY’S OFFICE}

Anthony didn’t even get the chance to sit on his chair when James entered.

“This was not our agreement,” James complained angrily.

“You saw what happened, I wasn’t granted a choice!” Anthony replied.

“You should have done something about it,” James retorted.

“I can’t do anything about it, you don’t have to worry, I would handle Caden” Anthony assured. “Just leave, we would talk later” Anthony added and James left reluctantly.

Anthony waited a few minutes for Caden but he didn’t come see him so he went to his office.

Anthony pushed the door open angrily. “Why didn’t you come to my office as ordered!” Anthony roared, slamming his hands on the desk.

“I don’t have time for your bûllshit,” Caden said, not bothering to look at his father.

“You really couldn’t think of any other reason to postpone the election so you decided to use your mother?” Anthony scoffed. “How pathetic”

That got Caden’s attention as he glared at his father hard. “I would never!” Caden gritted. “You have enough enemies, you should ask them”

“I am asking one right now,” Anthony retorted.

“And I’m telling you I didn’t!” Caden said sternly.

Anthony paused for a while before walking out and Caden watched him go with hatred in his gaze.

He could guess who released that information on Anthony and he was going to ask her.

_

{MADISON’S APARTMENT}

Madison planned on going to work today, she already made a speech of how to explain to Liam and keep her job but she got an email.

She was fired.

Madison sat on the couch for almost two hours looking at the wall in front of her.

Emily told her Liam wouldn’t fire her but Liam definitely just fired her.

“I was almost traffiçked for f+k sake, can’t I get a damn break!” Madison screamed at the wall.

A soft knock on her door jerked her out of her thoughts and she frowned.

Emily?

Nahh… Emily would be at work right now.

So maybe her landlord.

Madison quickly checked her calendar, and she sighed in relief when she saw her rent wasn’t due yet.

She made her way to the door and opened it to see Nathan.

He didn’t say anything but he side stepped her and entered the apartment. “Come in,” Madison said sarcastically after Nathan was already inside.

She shut the door and turned to him. “Aren’t CEO’s supposed to be super busy? You seem to have a lot of time” Madison commented.

“Why did you leave without telling me?” Nathan asked.

“I didn’t know I was supposed to inform you about my daily movements but I told Ava, I figured she would have told you” Madison replied with a shrug.

“She did,” Nathan replied simply.

“Then that’s that,” Madison replied. “I’m going through a mental breakdown right now, I would appreciate it if you leave” Madison informed.

“What happened?” Nathan asked.

“Again with the questions” Madison sighed in frustration. “I just got fired, understandably, so yeah… Mental breakdown” Madison answered.

“Just that?” Nathan frowned and Madison held her scalp in frustration.

“That’s my source of income!” Madison yelled.

“I would get you another job then” Nathan shrugged and Madison was at a loss of words.

“Why?” She asked, finally finding her voice “You’ve been helping me way too much. It’s nice and I appreciate it but it’s getting suspicious,” Madison said.

“I don’t know either” Nathan replied truthfully and Madison fell silent, the tension in the air thickens.

Madison felt a huge lump in her throat but she didn’t have the courage to swallow it, her eyes locked with Nathan.

He stepped closer, his steps careful and light, he pulled her closer by the waist and her breath hitched.

“This is a bad idea,” Madison whispered softly.

“It really is,” Nathan replied and kissed her.

{HALTER’S MEDIA}

Emily was on her desk typing away on the computer in front of her when a colleague walked past her.

“Your friend hasn’t resumed yet?” The lady asked.

“I guess so,” Emily replied as she glanced at Madison’s desk.

“I’m pretty sure Liam had already fired her” she replied and walked away making Emily frown.

Liam wouldn’t, right?.

Emily quickly stood up from her chair and walked into Liam’s office.

“Did you fire Madison?” Emily asked.

“Good day to you too Mrs. Kingston” Liam replied.

“Sorry, I was curious” Emily apologized.

“Yes, I fired her” Liam replied and Emily’s jaw dropped.

“You can’t, she is one of the best” Emily yelled.

“She hasn’t been at work for weeks, I can’t keep paying her for doing nothing” Liam replied.

Emily wanted to tell him about Madison but she figured Madison wouldn’t want people knowing what she had been through so she swallowed her words.

“You’ll regret it!” Emily said and walked out of his office.

Angry smokes were still rolling off her when her phone vibrated and she was expecting a text from Caden as always but it wasn’t Caden.

He didn’t text her this morning, she basically hasn’t heard from him or seen him since last night, her guts tell her something was wrong but she brushed it off with “he is just busy”

Instead it was a text from an unknown number.

“Hi Emily, it’s James, had to use another number since Caden blocked the other one, I need to see you, it’s urgent”

Emily paused, what could he possibly want, she thought they said their goodbyes the last time.

She sighed and walked towards her desk.

{HOSPITAL

George has been so busy with his father’s company he barely had time to be Caden’s secretary and personal assistant.

He can’t wait for his father to get better so he can go back to his normal life.

He walked into his father’s ward, the old man looked a little more stronger than the last time he was here.

“It’s great you’re getting better” George said.

“Are you happy with my recovery? That’s touching,” Calvin smiled. “Have you spoken to the clients in Peru?” Calvin asked.

“Their flight got delayed, the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow” George replied and Calvin nodded.

“You’re doing a good job,” Calvin praised.

“It’s only temporary” George reminded.

“We shouldn’t be having this conversation, you would inherit all of it soon” Calvin said.

“I already said I won’t” George replied sternly, Calvin looked like he was about to retort but he swallowed his words.

Ava entered with a tray of injection. “I’m glad you’re doing well sir” she smiled at Calvin who hardly acknowledged her presence.

He did a background check on her and it wasn’t something special, at least she wouldn’t poison him.

She gave him an intravenous injection and turned to George. “Can I see you in my office?” Ava said to George who looked surprised.

“Sure” he replied and got up.

They walked out of the ward and went to Ava’s office.

“Is something wrong with my dad?” George asked.

“Not really, his recovery is normal but there’s a high chance of things getting worse again, so he needs extra care, he needs to stay in the hospital for a little longer” Ava informed, she praised herself for the steady voice because could hardly think straight when George is in front of her.

The fact that he doesn’t remember her stung like hell but it was expected since they only saw each other for a few seconds.

“Ohh alright, thank you” George replied with a nod, his phone on the table vibrated violently.

A call from Anna.

Ava’s eye caught the phone, then she remembered he had a girlfriend, the one she saw him with the first time they met.

She had hoped they weren’t dating anymore but she was horribly wrong.

“I would leave now, thank you Ava” George smiled and walked out of her office and Ava blinked.

Did he remember her?

She did tell him her name when she introduced herself as his father’s doctor so maybe not.

_

{CADEN’S HOUSE~5PM}

Emily wanted to go to Madison’s place, she had messaged her she would come but Madison told her not too.

She didn’t give a specific reason but Emily wanted to leave her alone for now after all she just got fired.

Emily walked into the kitchen after changing into fresh clothes, she was going to cook something other than spaghetti.

She made a mental note to get Luis’ number from Caden after so many failures, she sucked at cooking.

The kitchen was looking like a dump site, she sighed at the sight in front of her.

“Just perfect,” she muttered.

The door opened and Caden entered the house.

“Welcome” she smiled at him but he simply nodded and walked towards the stairs.

Emily watched him with a confused expression, are they quarrelling and she has no idea?

She sighed and decided to order food instead, she waited for Caden to come down for dinner but he didn’t so she went up to him.

She didn’t even bother knocking, she just pushed the door open to meet Caden sitting upright on the bed with his laptop on his lap.

“Aren’t you having dinner?” Emily asked.

“No…” Caden replied without looking at her and Emily walked towards him.

She closed the laptop in front of him and glared at him. “What the hell is wrong with you?” She asked, her eyes flaring.

“Nothing, I’m just tired,” Caden replied.

“This doesn’t look like “nothing”, you’re being distant, if this is a prank stop it because it’s not funny” Emily snapped.

“You really want to know?” Caden asked, his eyes, accusing.

“Of course, I wouldn’t be asked if I didn’t!” Emily replied and Caden pulled out his phone.

He showed Emily the picture Lia sent to him and Emily took it from him.

“Why did you meet with him after I told you not to?” Caden said.

Emily was confused, she did meet with James and sure they talked but she didn’t remember holding his hands, in fact they kept a safe distance.

She turned to Caden’s accusing eyes and her heart clenched.

He doesn’t trust her.

Why doesn’t he trust her, she has never given him a reason not to.

She turned to the picture again and noticed it was sent by Lia.

F+king Lia!

Wasn’t he supposed to block Lia like he blocked James from her phone?

“Why didn’t you block Lia?” Emily questioned.

“That’s not the problem Emily, you were holding hands with the one person I specifically told you to avoid” Caden yelled.

“Why isn’t that the problem, you blocked James but you didn’t block Lia?” Emily retorted. “And you’re so mad I talked to James?” Emily scoffed.

“Shouldn’t I be?!” Caden said, completely ignoring Emily’s statement on Lia.

“F+k you Caden Kingston! F+k. You!” Emily gritted and walked out of the bedroom slamming the door hard.

_

{KINGSTON MANSION}

Beatrice sat on the couch with her phone in her hand, she was having a field day with the comments about Anthony, she couldn’t stop smiling as she stared at her phone.

“What’s so funny?” She heard Anthony’s voice and she jerked.

She hadn’t noticed him coming into the house and she cursed within her.

“Nothing” She quickly turned off her phone and Anthony glared at her.

“Your husband is facing troubles and you’re smiling at your phone, ungrateful wife” Anthony spat angrily.

Beatrice stood up from the couch immediately, she knew what would happen next.

‘A little more, just be patient for a little while and it will be over’ she said within her.

Anthony eyed her thoroughly before scoffing angrily, he walked past her and towards the bedroom.

Beatrice sighed in relief.

At least she didn’t get trashed today.

She slumped back on the couch and continued on her phone.

_

{NEXT MORNING~COFFEE SHOP}

Emily parked her car in front of the coffee shop and came down from it.

This is where she is supposed to meet James, she didn’t plan on seeing him but she changed her mind immediately she went back to her room last night.

Caden definitely won’t tell her what to do when he was clearly not avoiding Lia like he was supposed to.

She didn’t even know why she expected him too. Guys like Caden never change even when they get married or have s+x with their wives.

Jealousy burned through her, she couldn’t contain her anger.

When she walked into the coffee shop she saw James sitting at the far end of the restaurant and she mustered up a smile.

It won’t hurt to know why he wants to see her and she walks up to him. “Hi,” she said.

“Hi,” he replied with a smile.

“What happened? Why did you ask me to come here?” Emily asked and James chuckled lightly.

“Let’s have coffee first” James said and signalled the waiter who rushed to them.

“One cup of hot coffee, no sugar, just milk,” Emily said to the man.

“Same” James replied and he left.

“I see you’ve repaired the headlights,” James said.

“Yeah.. Caden paid for it actually” Emily replied stiffly, she was still very mad at Caden.

“Ohhhh okay” James smiled.

The door to the coffee shop opened and Caden entered, his eyes scanned the shop and he saw Emily sitting with James sitting opposite her.

His jaw ticked with anger as he stormed towards them.

Emily’s gaze met his and her eyes widened. “Caden? What are you doing here?” She asked but Caden didn’t even look at her, he was burning with anger.

“Relax, we were just tal-” James started but Caden’s hand met his face with a hard punch.

“Caden!” Emily gasped.
