TWO WEEKS LATER

✨ PARIS ✨

Ana looked at Mr. King’s worried face as she walked out of the bathroom, .

She approached him slowly, noticing the worry on his face,.

“What’s wrong?” she asked gently.

Mr. Kings let out a deep breath, placing one hand on her waist pulling her body closer.

“My mom is in the hospital,” he said quietly.

Ana’s eyes widened.

“What? What happened to her? Is she okay?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.

“I don’t know exactly,” he replied.

“Samantha called and said she was rushed to the hospital, but she didn’t explain what happened. I think… we have to head back to New York.”

Mr. King leaned forward and kissed the side of her cheek.

“I’m so sorry.”

“We can go,” Ana said softly.

“I just hope she’s okay. And you… how are you feeling?”

Mr. Kings rubbed the small of her back.

“I’m just really worried. We were supposed to leave next week, but now everything’s changed. I have no choice..I need to be there.”

Ana smiled up at him gently.

“It’s okay. We’ll come back another time. Your mom comes first. Don’t worry about us we’ve already spent time together. After all, we’ve been here for a week. It’s time to get back anyway,” she said reassuringly.

Mr. Kings nodded, then leaned in and kissed her lips softly.

He lingered for a moment before pulling back.

“I love you,” he whispered.

Ana smiled, her heart melting.

Hearing those words always felt like the first time.

“I love you too,” she said.

She was about to pull back from his embrace when Mr. King pulled her closer again, his hand slipping down to grope her ass.

“Where do you think you’re going?” he asked with a teasing smirk.

“I have to change so I can be ready,” Ana replied, raising a brow.

“Did you already prepare the flights?”

Mr. King nodded.

“Yeah, I called Alison. The jet’s already being prepped for us.”

Then he leaned in with a wink.

“But now, baby , you promised me round two. Did you forget that?”

Ana rolled her eyes.

“Seriously? You’re insane. Thinking about sex when your mom is in the hospital?”

She gently pushed him away, but he pulled her right back again.

“We have to go, Charlie,” she said with a laugh creeping into her voice.

“You’re here thinking about round two while your mom is in the hospital.”

“Oh, come on,” he whispered into her ear.

“By the time the flight’s ready, I’ll be done having my little feast with you. Just a quick one, baby…”

Ana could already feel her body responding to his voice, his touch but she shook her head firmly.

“No. I said no,” she said, pulling back again.

“You can have me when we know your mom is okay. We have a seven-hour flight ahead, and you’re thinking about sex right now?”

She walked toward the dresser, grabbing her brush.

“I need to do my makeup, finish my hair, and pack. So Mr. Kings ,leave me alone.”

He chuckled, then gave her a playful smack on the ass before backing off,.

Raising his hands in mock surrender.

“Okay, okay. But when we get to New York, don’t act surprised when I don’t let you rest, baby. You owe me.”

Ana rolled her eyes with a soft smile as she stood in front of the mirror, running the brush through her hair.

✨NEW YORK CITY✨

Mr kings took Ana’s hand, guiding her toward the hospital.

Ana hesitated. “I don’t think I should come with you,” she said softly, her voice uncertain.

“I mean… I could just go home. Mr. Antonio can drive me.”

“You’re coming with me, okay?” Mr. King replied firmly.

“Just wait with me while I see her. I’m not going to be long, I just need to make sure she’s alright.”

Ana’s steps slowed. “No, it’s just… I mean, your whole family’s in there, your dad, your sister… I’m not really, I’m not family, Charlie.”

Mr. Kings stopped and turned to face her, his eyes sharp with frustration.

“Stop talking nonsense, Ana. You’re my family now. I don’t care what anyone in there thinks or says. You’re coming with me. You’ll meet my mom, and when the time is right, I’ll tell her about us. Okay?”

He kissed her forehead gently, catching her off guard.

They stepped inside, they spotted Samantha, Fatima, and Clara seated in the waiting area.

Ana quickly slipped her hand from Mr. King’s grip.

He gave her a disapproving glance but didn’t take her hand again.

Anna swallowed hard, already feeling the weight of their gazes on her.

This was exactly what she feared.

Clara jumped up and ran to Mr. Kings, wrapping him in a warm hug.

He hugged her back, kissing her forehead.

“Hey, little sis. I missed you,” he said.

Clara smiled. “I missed you too. I was starting to worry you wouldn’t come.”

Then she turned to Anna with a kind smile.

“Hie, Anna.”

Ana smiled nervously. “Hi, Clara. Long time.”

Clara nodded. “Yeah… long time indeed.”

Mr. Kings glanced at Fatima, then at Samantha .

“Where’s Mom?” he asked Samantha.

Samantha rolled her eyes.

“Wow. Not even a hello? You’re not going to greet your sister? Or your fiancée?” She gestured toward Fatima, who gave a small, uncomfortable wave.

Mr. Kings gave a dry chuckle.

“How are you, sister?” he said, his tone polite but cool.

Then he turned to Fatima.

“How are you?”

Fatima gave a faint smile.

“Good to see you,” she said softly.

Then, her eyes flicked toward Ana. “Hi, Anna,” she added.

Ana blinked, surprised.

“Hi,” she said quickly, forcing a polite smile.

“How are you?”

She glanced toward Samantha, who was already glaring at her.

Cold, sharp, and clearly unwelcoming.

Samantha looked at Mr. Kings and narrowed her eyes. “What is she doing here?” she asked.

He glanced at Anna briefly before replying calmly,

“She came straight from the airport with me. There was no time for her to go home, so I brought her here.”

“You had
to bring her here?”

Samantha snapped.

“She could’ve taken a cab. Or you could’ve asked Antonio to drive her. There was no need for her to be here.”

Mr. Kings let out a short, dry laugh.

Then he looked at Anna, noticing the shift in her body language she already felt unwelcome.

“Look, Sam,” he said, his voice low but firm.

“I don’t care what you’re saying. She’s here with me, okay? Don’t start with this nonsense. I’m here to see Mom.”

Samantha rolled her eyes and shot a sharp glare at Anna, like she was ready to strike.

“You can’t just bring a stranger here , . This was meant to be a family visit. Her presence could stress Mom. She’s not part of this. She’s your personal assistant, not your family. There was no reason to drag her along.”

Ana’s heart sank.

Mr. Kings sighed deeply and walked to her.

He placed a protective hand on her shoulder.

“Sam,” he said again, firmer this time, “you might not see her as family, but I do. She’s here *because I want her here*. That’s the only reason that matters.”

Anna looked up at him, stunned.

Samantha scoffed.

“Family ?” she said, laughing in disbelief.

“You’ve completely lost it. She’s nothing…”

“Enough!” Mr. Kings cut her off, his voice raised now.

“I’m not going to stand here and listen to you insult her. I came to see my mother, not to deal with your bitterness. If you’re going to keep this up, then don’t speak to me at all.”

Fatima folded her arms, frowning silently.

Mr. Kings turned to Anna and gently kissed her forehead, then her cheek.

The room froze.

Fatima blinked in shock, a sharp pang of jealousy tightening in her chest.

Samantha’s jaw clenched, and she let out a dry, bitter chuckle, clearly taken aback.

But Mr. Kings didn’t flinch.

His message had been made loud and clear.

Anna… was his family.

“I’m coming now. Wait for me here,” Mr. Kings said to Ana.

Anna nodded and sat down on one of the waiting chairs, her face lowered.

Mr. Kings turned to Samantha and Fatima.

“If I hear that you’re being disrespectful, you’ll be in trouble with me,” he said firmly, before walking toward the room Samantha had said their mother was in.

Samantha watched him disappear down the hallway, then turned sharply to Ana, clearly unimpressed.

“So now you have the nerve to show up to the hospital with my little brother? Acting like you’re his whole world or something? What is this, Anna?” Samantha asked, her tone cold.

Ana rolled her eyes, clearly unfazed.

She took a deep breath, trying to compose herself.

She wasn’t in the mood this entire situation was exhausting.

All she wanted was to go home and rest.

“I’m talking to you,”

Samantha snapped.

“Why are you acting like you can’t hear me?”

“Come on, Sam, why are you being so mean to her?”

Clara interjected.

“He brought her here himself. Why take it out on her?.”

“Clara, shut up. I’m not talking to you. Mind your business,” Samantha snapped back.

Clara folded her arms.

“You’re just so mean. I don’t understand why you’re always this bitter. Anna is just here to support him. Why are you acting like this?”

“Clara, I said shut up!”

Samantha barked before turning back to Anna.

“You better leave. I can’t stand another minute looking at your ugly face.”

Ana let out a dry, sarcastic laugh.

“Look, Sam. Whatever bitterness you’re holding onto, keep it to yourself. I came here because your brother brought me, and I’ll only leave if he tells me to. Not you. So if you have anything to say, say it when he’s here. Otherwise, I’m not going anywhere.”

Her voice was calm but firm, her eyes locked on Samantha’s with quiet confidence.

“What are you trying to do, Annabelle?” Samantha said, voice dripping with disdain.

“This girl here,” she pointed at Fatima, “is the one who deserves to be with my brother. You think you can just show up and build some little secret relationship? If people find out, this will ruin him ,his reputation, his career. Everything he’s worked for. You think it’s worth it?”

Ana swallowed hard.

The words stung more than she expected. Samantha wasn’t entirely wrong it wouldn’t be easy.

But still, she took a deep breath and faced her.

“Look, Samantha. I get that you care about your brother. But right now, you’re just being unreasonable.”

” He brought me here. And unless he tells me to leave, I’m staying. Whether you like it or not.”

Samantha’s nostrils flared as she glared at her.

She turned to Fatima, who had remained quiet the entire time..

Ten minutes passed.

Mr. Kings walked back in, and both Anna and Clara stood up at the same time.

As he approached where they were waiting, .

He glanced at Fatima, then walked directly toward her.

“Fatima, come here,” he said, his tone calm but firm.

Anna stared, confused, wondering what was going on.

He didn’t even look at her not once.

Her heart began to race.

Fatima stood slowly and looked up at Mr. Kings.

“Yes?” she answered, her voice low and uncertain.

“Are you still interested in marrying me?” Mr. Kings asked bluntly.

Fatima’s mouth dropped open in shock.

Ana’s eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at him, frozen.

He still wouldn’t look her way.

Her stomach turned.

Her chest tightened.

What was happening?

“What?” Fatima asked, startled.

“I said, are you still interested in marrying me?” he repeated, his voice steady, emotionless.

“What… I don’t know what are you trying to do, Charles?” Fatima said, stunned.

“Just answer me,” he said.

“Yes or no. Are you still interested?”

“Yes,” Fatima replied quietly.

Anna’s breath hitched.

Her mouth parted slightly, but no words came out.

Her heart pounded painfully in her chest.

She could feel her legs trembling beneath her.

“Good,” Mr. Kings said.

“Then the engagement is back on. We’ll make it official in two days.”

Still, he didn’t look at Ana.

She stared at him, her whole body going cold.

She tried to read his face some hint, a reason, a sign.

But there was nothing.

His expression was unreadable.

Ana took a step back, her heart tearing inside her chest.

The sting of tears welled in her eyes.

Then, before she could stop herself, .

She turned and ran out of the hospital.

“Mr. Antonio… can you drive me home?” Anna asked, her voice trembling slightly.

Antonio turned to her, puzzled.

“Why? Weren’t you supposed to wait for Mr. Kings? I thought you two….”

“Just… take me home,” Anna interrupted, her voice firmer now but shaky with emotion.

“Look, Miss Eva… I can’t take you without Mr. King’s permission,” he said gently.

Ana took a deep breath, her hand pressing against her chest.

Her whole body felt hot, like something was crashing inside her.

Panic.

Her breath was shallow.

A tear slid down her cheek, and she quickly wiped it.

“Okay. If you don’t want to, just take my bags out of the car. I’ll book a cab. I’ll go home on my own,” she said, eyes glossy, tone hollow.

Antonio hesitated.

Then, seeing her condition, he gave in.

“Okay. I’ll take you home. Get in.”

He opened the door, and Anna slid inside,.

Covering her face as a quiet sob escaped.

What just happened in that hospital?

Why did he say those words?.

Announcing an engagement? With Fatima?.

Everything felt surreal.

******

Meanwhile, back inside the hospital, .

Fatima was staring at Mr. Kings, clearly confused.

“Charlie… are you serious? You still want to marry me?”

Mr. King cleared his throat, glancing down, then back up at her.

“Yes. . We’ll get married. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted?”

Fatima smiled softly, still uncertain.

“I just… I thought you said you didn’t want to anymore. This is sudden.”

“I want to now,” he said firmly.

“Don’t question it. I have to leave. Clara are you coming?”

Clara stood up and followed him, slipping her hand into his.

“Why are you marrying Fatima all of a sudden?” she asked softly.

“I thought… I thought you were interested in Ana.”

Mr. Kings sighed, but his face remained unreadable.

“This isn’t your concern. Don’t worry about it.”

Clara frowned.

“But I am worried. You don’t even like Fatima. Did Mom ask you to marry her?”

“No,” he replied curtly.

“Then why?” Clara asked.

“Anna left looking broken, Charlie. You’re hurting her.”

They stopped walking.

He turned slowly.

“Clara, stop. This isn’t something you need to get involved in. I said I want to marry Fatima. That’s it.”

“But what about Ana?” Clara pressed.

“You like her. I saw it. We all saw it. And now… after seeing Mom, everything changes? Did she ask you to end things with Ana?”

Mr. Kings clenched his jaw.

No answer.

“Charlie,” Clara said again, her voice cracking,

“if someone did this to me… you’d be furious. So why are you doing it to someone else?”

Still, silence.

They walked out the hospital.

Clara shook her head in disbelief.

“Coward,” she whispered under her breath.
