The shattering sound of a mirror came first, then kicking, then throwing, and pounding, all behind the closed door of the room.

The second shattering sound cracked, and the third followed immediately.

The door shook badly, looking like it’s gonna peel off it’s hinges despite being a perfect chunk of glass.

The poundings continued, filling the house with destructive echoes till the door finally burst open loudly.

Three females burst out with it, but in different positions.

Two of them are on top of the third one, but there’s a similarity though; they’re all bleeding on the face.

The mean-looking two didn’t stop punching the one at the bottom, but the one on the bottom isn’t idle too.

Seraphina.

She knows she can’t beat her two sisters at the same time, so she targeted Dora—her younger sister.

All of Seraphina’s major punches smashed Dora’s jaws, but as she punched, her older sister Kimmy was retaliating, blowing her face too.

Two against one.

It has always been like that.

No one likes Seraphina in this house—not even the gardener or the landscaper, not the maids.

In the middle of the chaos, there’s a wedding dress lying by their feet, and there are drops of Seraphina’s blood on it—blood from her nose.

Inside her room, there’s a mess of shattered mirror on the ground, vanity table is flipped upside down, and the chair is broken. Black ink covered the bedspread, and the bedside lamp is shattered too.

It looks like a war happened in there, thanks to her sisters.

“Now that you’re getting married, you think you’re that girl?? Huh?” Kimmy barked. Her messily-curled updo rounded her cruel face as she slammed another heavy blow to Seraphina’s mouth. “You ain’t shit, bi+ch! You ain’t shit!”

“Oh she thinks she’s desirable! Dean only wants you cos you’re pitiful, m+therf+cker!” Dora spat, spitting out bloody saliva before she punched Seraphina’s face too.

Seraphina retaliated, slamming her fist into Dora’s nose.

“F+ck!!” Dora shrieked, blood trickling out of her nostril.

“You lowly f+ck!” Kimmy shot, sending a stinging slap to Seraphina’s face. Her nails tore Seraphina’s cheek, and Seraphina’s big-rimmed glasses flew off her eyes finally.

Her face is bruised than Kimmy and Dora’s. Lips bleeding, nose bleeding, cheeks bleeding, even the neck and chin is bleeding. A huge mess.

But she wasn’t gonna let it slide.

She spranged up, unfolded her fist and sent it to Kimmy’s face.

Smack.

The slap was louder than the one Kimmy gave her.

Kimmy’s updo came loose.

“What the—”

“Look i know y’all hate me, and I’ve been dealing with it for donkey fuckin years!” Seraphina yelled, pointing fingers at the two.

Without her glasses, her eyes are a little blurry, but at least she can still make out their faces.

She picked up the wedding dress.

“You can’t just enter my room on my wedding eve and start messing up my wedding dress and expect me to stay still and….and watch…. like…. like…”

She entered stammer mode like she does anytime she talks too much, and the sisters burst into laughter.

“Yes?” Dora grinned at her face. “C’mon continue! Go on, stammerer! Go the f+ck on!”

“She’s hard to look at,” Kimmy sighed.

“You don’t expect me to stay still and watch like a spineless fool!!!” Seraphina said after inhaling calmly.

“That’s exactly what you should have done, cursed child.” A crueller voice came from the flight of stairs.

The heads of the three sisters turned in sync to see their parents emerging.

Genevieve and Marley.

They went for a party since noon, and their mood looks like they’re just returning from the function.

Just like the mean sisters, they have no pinch of kindness on their faces. Their demeanor is painted deep with callousness and harshness.

Genevieve’s readily hot palm flew to Seraphina’s face, hitting hard.

Kimmy smiled creepily, folding her arms across her chest.

Dora rested on the wall, smirking. She’s madly in love with the delicious scene unfolding.

Seraphina staggered, gritting as Genevieve looked down at her.

“I repeat,” she muttered, darkly. “That’s exactly what you should have done. You should have stayed, watch them and let them do whatever the f+ck they wanted with your wedding dress! You’re only getting married because we need Dean for the investment! Finally, you have a use for the family rather than crocheting your ugly jokes. Them ruining your wedding dress is probably their way of congratulating you so you had no right to resist, talk more of picking a fight with them!” Genevieve barked, her chignon pins dancing.

“My crotchets aren’t ugly, and they aren’t a joke,” Seraphina said, boldly looking at Genevieve.

And she instantly received another stinging slap on her face.

This time, it was from her father.

Marley’s face squeezed in disgust after the slap. It’s as though he’s spooked by her existence alone.

Seraphina was still suffering from the sting of the slap when Marley yanked her by her hair and began dragging her downstairs roughly.

“Daddy?” Seraphina gasped, foot slipping dangerously over the polished marble. “Daddy! Dad—”

She has already been thrown out of the house before she could finish.

She landed outside on her knees in the pouring rain at exactly 7pm.

Looking up, she saw all of them standing by the door, staring disgustedly at her.

Marley at the front, Genevieve beside him, Dora and Kimmy behind.

“No….” Seraphina shook her head, realizing she’s still with the wedding dress. She clutched it, her body gumming wet with the downpour.

“Have fun spending your wedding eve in the rain.” Marley muttered.

“You’re gonna start living with Dean from tommorow anyways, there’s no point spending the night inside this house tonight.” Genevieve said, stroking her luxury earring.

“Goodnight, Frump.” Dora and Kimmy waved together.

“You have the blood injection ready?’ Kimmy asked silently.

“Trust me,” Dora replied, and the door was instantly thrown shut.

Seraphina stood, shutting her eyes and opening them to see if her sight would get better.

Not like it works, but she likes to try.

The rain threads look like a complete blur of waterfall, but she can still see.

She held the dress with an hand, and with the other hand, she got a cigar box from the pocket of her maxi skirt and picked one, but unfortunately, there’s no lighter to fire it up.

Frustratingly, she threw down the cigar and stepped on it till it became a wet mash, then she turned around, staring at the castle-like mansion.

This mansion is tucked in the middle of a private estate with private road and iron gates.

It ain’t white marble or warm stone like the homes of ordinary wealthy men, but grey. Entirely grey.

The towering structure rose excessively with tall windows of tinted glass.

A sea of roses surrounded the mansion—thousands of deep red blooms lined the pathways, climbing wrought-iron arches and curling around the edges of the black stone fountains and circular driveway.

It looked less like a home and more like a warning.

In the heavy rain, ungentle breeze, and dark night, Seraphina stood like a refugee, squeezing her wedding dress in her palms.

Eventually, she pulled out her phone and dialled Dean’s line,

Saved as ‘Babe’

Three rings, he didn’t pick.

She tried the fourth time.

He still didn’t pick.

He must be busy with his bachelor’s eve, meanwhile, she can’t even have a bridal shower for herself.

She looked at the cars at the large glass garage. The garage is electronically locked too, so she won’t be able to take her little Lexus.

Resolutely, she dialled her only friend, and she picked in a ring.

“Hey, girl!” Allison’s rich voice kissed her phone speakers.

“Lis, can you come get me at the estate? I’m outside, in the rain.”

“Wait…wait, what! Your family locked you out?” Allison’s voice rose. “Damn, I know those fuckers are hella mean, but shit, they ain’t doing this to you on your wedding eve!”

“Lis, can you please…not ask questions?” Seraphina inhaled.

“Be there in a breath!” Allison responded and hung up.

She trekked to the estate gate with the next five minutes, and that was when she remembered she can’t go out of her own freewill.

Everyone has the gate keycard, but she doesn’t have it since they think she doesn’t deserve it anyways.

So she had always waited for when her parents or sisters were going out so she’d sneak out after them.

It’s impossible to go out tonight since no one is going out right now.

She made to redial Allison, but that was when a Bugatti screeched to a rough stop in front of the gate.

Allison jumped out in her bright green suit, gasping when she saw how drenched Seraphina is.

“Phina!” She rushed to the gate, trying to pull it open.

“It won’t open! You know I don’t have a card!” Seraphina said from the inside. “I was so disoriented I didn’t remember that fact before calling!”

“So what?” Allison scoffed. “Wait, where the hell is your glasses? And is that your wedding dress you’re holding? Shit, they locked you out, so they should let you out of the estate and come with me to my place! At least, I can throw you a damn bridal shower. Just the two of us!”

She was already walking to the gate cubicle as she spoke. That cubicle building is where the gatekeeper stays most time.

She barged the door open, and the thick man stepped out with hard lines of frown on his face.

“Open the goddamn gate! She’s coming with me!” She demanded.

“I have no order from Boss Marley or Boss Genevieve to open the gate, and I have no order from Miss Dora or Miss Kimmy. I know my bosses, and you ain’t part.” The man said rudely.

“Phina answers Redd too! Seraphina Redd! The fuck do y’all do this shit all the time? Refusing to acknowledge her as a member of the family!” Allison yelled, rain beating her.

“I only take orders from my bosses, Miss Allison. And you’re not part.” The man repeated.

“I’m about to f+ck you up real bad, stinky breath!” Allison grabbed him by the collar.

“Allison! Allison, stop!” Seraphina shouted.

“Miss Allison,” the gatekeeper grunted arrogantly. “You’re the most patronized event planner in this city right now, and you’re also the surest networking queen, so don’t do this, cos if you lay hands on me, I only have to report to my bosses, and your life and your jobs, would be ruined.”

“Bitch, you talking shit!” Allison spat, raising her hand on him.

“No! Allison! Allison listen to me and go back home! I’ll be fine, really!” Seraphina shouted.

Allison looked back. “Ain’t leaving you here in the damn rain!”

“I called you, you came, and now I’m saying I don’t need you to intervene anymore! Go back, I’ll be fine! Just throw me a lighter!” Seraphina glared, nodding.

Reluctantly, Allison dropped her hand and let go of the gatekeeper. She went back to her car, got a lighter and threw it into the gate metal hole.

Seraphina caught it.

“Girl, you better stay alive till tommorow morning,” Allison said seriously, worried.

“The rain is about to stop, Allison. Don’t panic, I’ve experienced more.” Seraphina replied.

Allison got back in her car, and as she drove off, Seraphina stretched her middle finger at the gatekeeper.

“Yeah go f+ck yourself!” She cussed, backing the gate.

—

[8PM]

The rain has stopped now, and the sparks of the street buzz is back again with people touring bars, clubs, restaurants and grills.

Cars and bikes touched the tars again, basking in the smell of after-rainfall.

Expensive company skyscrapers rose like mighty shadows, towering above other buildings.

On top of one of the skyscrapers, Wrath Investments Empire was carefully crafted in red color. This skyscraper is black, glinting with bright otherworldly lights.

It’s the only black skyscraper in this city, and that’s why it’s distinct and easy to spot, but difficult to enter.

It’s the top investment company in this city, owned by Dean St. Graves.

But right now, across the road, a matte red BMW is parked like it’s there for a intentional purpose.

And from the car backseat, a pair of threatening blue eyes stared out. The blueness almost reflected with the lights from the skyscraper as they stared at it with questionable intents.

But not for long, cos five minutes later, the car moved, rolling smoothly across the city of NYC.

The window wound up, and the blue eyes disappeared behind the glass as if they’re not interested in the city bustlings. As if they’re bored with the mundane liveliness and shit.

The car arrived at Kindred Foster Home shortly, and it zoomed inside as the gate went apart automatically.

Kindred is the largest Foster Home in the country—an orphanage for homeless orphans.

Kids ranging from 5 to 12 could be seen writing their school assignments in the open spaces, and teens from 13 to 19 could be seen chatting and laughing heartily, happily.

The car stopped in front of one of the buildings which is noticeably the Owner’s office.

The driver in front of the car rushed out, then quickly went back to open the door for blue eyes at the back.

He stepped out in his long black coat, black undershirt, and same color of pants as if muted color is his grace.

With a resting bitch face that looks like it’s not familiar with warmth, frilly blue eyes, long tall legs, smooth hair, and leather gloved hands.

Just like he stared at the company skyscraper, he began staring at the office. The driver had to speak up…

“Father Tobias, do you want me to—”

He was cut short when a giant Doberman jumped out of the building, throwing itself at Tobias.

A sprinkle of recognition hit Tobias irises, and he didn’t even have to squat to reach the dog since it’s very tall. He stroked it’s head fondly.

“Grimm,” he hummed, voice husky, a raspy hum.

The dog whined happily, rubbing it’s fur on him, and the driver gasped.

This man is a Priest, and dogs are unclean. Why is the dog rubbing…

He made to push the dog away, but the dog sank it’s teeth into his arm, biting so deep blood hit the ground.

“Arhhh!!!” He staggered back once, falling on the ground.

Then, the dog returned it’s attention to Tobias,, wagging it’s tail restlessly, looking too excited.

If Tobias saw the wounded driver on the ground, he didn’t act like it cos he just continued stroking the excited dog’s head with that fondness.

It’s been five long years since he left this place for seminary school, five years since he left his dog and family here in this Foster Home.

Yeah, he grew up here with his twin brother Dean, and their younger brother Saint.

They’re the St. Graves brothers who lost their parents at a young age, so their Uncle Will who’s the owner of this Foster Home took them in.

But Tobias is darkness itself. Deep, scary darkness. He’s the total black sheep of the family.

So after he graduated college at 22, Uncle Will sent him to seminary, hoping when he graduates and becomes a Priest, he’d change.

Tobias head went angled as he continued stroking Grimm’s head, and the bleeding driver on the ground looked on unbelievably.

Throughout the drive here, Tobias didn’t say a word to him. He just sat there poignantly at the backseat, unmoved. There was a moment he wondered if he was even breathing cos of his heavy, suffocating silence.

But now, they arrived here and he showed recognition for a mere dog?

The dog even bit him but he doesn’t say a word of sorry?

Isn’t he a Priest?

The new Priest of their church?

“Tobias St. Graves!” A bubbly voice said from the front of the office.

Tobias slowly lifted his hand from Grimm’s head.

Grimm whined in protest.

Tobias looked up, his eyes catching the figure of Uncle Will by the door of the office.

“Welcome back, son,” The man with classic threads of grey hair smiled with soft, satisfied eyes.

It’s his habit to call the St. Graves brothers his sons’. They’re his late brother’s kids anyways.

In few minutes, Tobias was inside his office with him, seated behind his long desk stacked with documents of orphans upkeep details.

Uncle Will sat in front of him.

“Thought you were gonna go straight to church, Tobias. The church assigned your first duty for tomorrow already. You’re officiating the wedding of your twin brother Dean and Seraphina Redd from the Redd family!” Uncle Will said brightly.

“I know,” Tobias responded, low…almost a growl.

“Then why did you come here straight?” Uncle Will blinked.

“You don’t want to see me that bad? You’re even complaining to my face?” Tobias said coldly, reclining.

“No! Tobias, you know that’s not true! I just thought your brothers aren’t around here. Dean is at his bachelor’s night in some hotel, and Saint? You know that one can’t do without his illegal bike races for a night, so he’s probably racing as we speak.” Uncle Will quickly explained.

Tobias responded with silence, and Uncle Will smiled again, looking him up and down thoroughly.

“I can’t believe this is you, Tobias. We’ve been talking for minutes, and you haven’t said a single cuss word? You haven’t raised your voice, too. The Tobias from five years ago would have grabbed my neck right now and maybe make me bleed out of every hole in my body..” He chuckled

“How’s the company doing?” Tobias deadpanned.

Uncle Will blinked.

“Wrath Investments Empire? WIE?”

“Do I have any other company?” Tobias tilted.

“Trust Dean, he has been doing a good job developing it as the CEO since you left. Look it up online, WIE is the top company in NYC right now. Too smooth.” Will nodded.

Silence swallowed the office, just Tobias staring emptily at Will, and Will smiling softly.

The driver peeped inside to relay a message. His arm has been treated by the foster matrons.

“We have to get to the church now, Father Tobias. The sisters and brothers are waiting to welcome you.” He announced.

“You are?” Uncle Will asked.

“Jude, one of the church brothers.” He replied.

“Why would an a church brother be sent to drive a Priest? Aren’t there enough drivers in the church?”

“Father Tobias is too special as the youngest Priest the church has ever received, so it’s an honor.” Jude smiled cheerfully.

“I know, but it’s sweet hearing it from you.” Uncle Will grinned.

By now, Tobias is already standing, heading for the door.

“You’ll meet your brothers in church tomorrow! Be careful!” Uncle Will shouted, rushing after him.

Jude followed.

Getting outside, Jude opened the door again, and Tobias hopped in.

Jude drove them away, and Uncle Will smile widened.

“Tobias? Calm? Jesus.” He grinned. “I’m proud of his progress.”

—

[Savior’s Alive Church]

The sisters, brothers, choristers, and the nuns were already waiting in two lines in front of the Church, all wearing their white habits and holding the sweetest baskets of roses.

When the car drove into the wide park, their anticipation rose.

News about this new Priest has been circulating since last year, and they’ve been preparing for his arrival as he’s a special one according to the Church management.

The day is finally here.

Jude quickly opened the door again, and as Tobias stepped out, the marvels in the eyes of everyone is so obvious. He’s indeed the youngest, most handsome Priest here.

And the first blue-eyed one too.

“Welcome to us, Father!” They chorused, pouring the roses around to sprinkle on his path.

“I hate roses,” Tobias curtly said, no warmth as he walked inside.

“Drop the baskets! He says he doesn’t like roses!” Jude scolded them as he ran after Tobias whose long legs are making his walk too fast.

Everyone began dropping their roses baskets. Everyone except one of the nuns—Estelle.

She couldn’t stop staring at Tobias retreating figure, and her palms kept tightening on the basket handle.

—

[Next Day]

The Church premises feels like a meeting of wealth is happening inside as different expensive exotic cars rolled into the park.

The second park had to be opened cos the first one got filled with Dean’s friends, family, business associates and staffs of Wrath Investments. Seraphina’s family, and the staffs and management of Redd Holdings.

This is a business wedding anyways.

Dean himself is inside his car with his Manager, Secretary, and Uncle Will.

He’s got blue eyes like Tobias, but the blue isn’t as deep, and he’s got apple chin too, but also not as deep.

That’s the only subtle resemblance. Their twin resemblance is limited.

His hair is perfectly brushed back, and he’s adjusting his tie.

“Why the hell is Saint not here ? His older brother is getting married! The fuck is that punk?” He complained.

“Even if he doesn’t appear, at least your twin brother will be the Priest officiating your marriage, that’s enough.” Uncle Will said.

“Tobias?” Dean faced him, grimacing uncomfortably. “It’s funny that you think his evilness has changed. I’m not happy about his damn return by the way, so I need Saint.”

Before Uncle Will could respond, the car door pulled open, and Saint’s head popped in fast.

He has the face of a lawbreaker, and the smile of a miscreant. Brutally handsome like his brothers, and smooth hair like them too.

Smooth hair is like a signature of the St. Graves family.

Saint wore a white singlet on his white slacks, tiny earrings, and there are multiple hickeys and lipstick prints around his neck.

“You little shit!” Dean cussed.

“Nah, you aren’t entering the church looking like that,” Uncle Will pointed. “What’s with the singlet and the hickeys and the damn lip prints around your neck?”

“I have my suit on my bike. And about my neck…” Saint laughed dryly. “My girls were thirsty for d+ck today. I had to serve c+m in their mouths.”

He stretched his hand to Dean’s suit pocket, pulling out an handkerchief.

He cleaned his neck lipstick with it and threw it back at Dean.

“One of these days, I’mma kill you and bury you in our family graveyard.” Dean glared.

“Don’t threaten me with a good time, brother.” Saint slammed door shut. “Can’t wait to see Tobias as a Priest! I still can’t believe it…that fucker was a terrifying devil five years ago.”

Inside Seraphina’s car, Allison is the only one with her, checking her makeup out for the umpteenth time.

She got her wedding dress washed and heat-dried early this morning, and luckily, it stayed intact. And makeup covered her facial bruises.

Thanks to medical contact lenses, she won’t be needing her glasses today.

“Girl, you look hot. You know I’ve always loved your kissable lips and banging body, especially that fat a+s…Dean is lucky.” Allison teased.

“No don’t start with the hotness shit,” Seraphina chuckled, nervous. “I’m just glad I’m finally leaving that house, for real.”

“I know,” Allison nodded. “What did Dean say about last night’s lockout?”

“We haven’t talked,” Seraphina sighed, nervousness increasing.

“You joking?” Allison blinked. “No ‘Good morning My Bride, Can’t Wait To F+ck You Forever’ message?”

The door was pulled open suddenly. Dora and Kimmy showed up glaringly like Cinderella stepsisters.

“Time to go inside the Church, Talentless Frump.” Dora rolled eyes.

“Y’all are animals in that family, except Phina.” Allison scoffed.

“Of course we’re animals,” Kimmy smirked. “Wild animals who’d eat a little mouse like her for lunch.”

Allison wanted to clap back, but Seraphina pulled her.

She’s not ready to deal with her two mean sisters this morning.

At all.

She got out of the car, and Allison followed her quickly.

Genevieve and Marley are right beside the car, but no words came from them to Seraphina.

They just entered the Church, and the mean sisters followed them.

It was Allison who led Seraphina to the Church entrance where Dean was already waiting at.

Allison left her and went to join the guests row where she took her seat.

From under her veil, Seraphina smiled gorgeously at Dean.

Dean returned it softly, taking her left hand to hold. She held the flower bouquet with the other hand.

Seraphina’s smile blossomed more, and the choir voices rose in the soft holy matrimony hymns as they began walking down the aisle to the altar where the Priest—Tobias, stood.

Tobias wore his Priest vestments with the stole hanging down his neck.

Most Priest have their vestments in white, compulsorily. His own is black, but the stole is color gold though.

He stood at the altar calmly—an eerie type of calmness as he awaited the bride and groom.

Jude and the other brothers lined behind him, carrying the vow book.

Tobias rare eyes stayed emptily on Dean. Dean’s eyes stayed on him too, meaningfully, hatefully.

But it was only for a minute before
Dean returned his gaze to Seraphina who’s still smiling beside him.

The crowd of guests stayed silent till they got to the front—to Tobias.

Then the guests started gasping, some pointing, some murmuring.

The silence went lost.

Tobias eyes stilled in their sockets.

Dean and Seraphina looked at each other, wondering what’s going on.

“That bî+ch is stained? Ew!” Kimmy shouted from her seat, staring at the round red mark on Seraphina’s bu+t.

Allison spranged up with wide, round eyes. “Phina…”

Dora bursted into laughter. “She doesn’t even know when her period is on? Such a dirty, filthy thing!”

Seraphina froze.

TBC.
