{NEXT DAY~BELMONT HOTEL~10AM}

Emily’s eyes fluttered open slowly, she felt a sharp pain on her head.

She cried herself to sleep last night, so the headache wasn’t really a surprise to her.

She stood up slowly from the bed and walked into the bathroom sluggishly.

Emily washed her face with cold water to stay fully awake before walking back into the room.

Her phone was on the bed and she walked towards it.

She had switched her phone off immediately when she arrived at the hotel and booked her room.

She didn’t want Caden calling her or anyone calling her as she didn’t have the courage to face anyone.

The election is today and Caden would have already retained his position because she did exactly as she was told.

It was up to Caden to sign the divorce agreement, Emily didn’t want that, she hoped Caden wouldn’t sign the papers.

When Emily’s phone turned on, it was about to blow up with notifications.

The first thing Emily did before checking her notifications was call Madison.

Madison called her over a hundred times and she sent her tons of messages.

“Where have you been?!!” Madison yelled.

Emily had to hold the phone away from her ears because of how loud Madison was.

“Do you want to destroy my ear drums?” Emily retorted.

“Your ear drums are the least of problems at hand, the Internet is on fire and you disappeared into thin air like a damn ghost!” Madison’s voice didn’t lower in the slightest.

“What are you talking about?” Emily asked, totally confused.

“Ohkay sweetheart, I would give you 5mins to go through the Internet then I would call, you better not turn off your phone” Madison screamed and hung up.

Emily blinked in surprise, what the actual fuçk is happening?

She immediately checked the tabloids and her eyes widened.

All these happened in one day?

Just yesterday?

The news of Anthony and Anna wasn’t the only trending search but Anthony’s heart attack has made its way up too.

“Shît!” Emily cursed and her phone began the vibrate.

Madison was calling, Emily wasn’t sure the 5mins were up yet but she answered regardless.

“Did you see what I was talking about?” Madison asked.

“Yes I did, I can’t believe it” Emily answered in a daze, she was still shocked.

“You better believe it, how’s Caden doing?” Madison asked and Emily felt a knot in her chest tighten as her lips sealed. “Ems?” Madison called when she didn’t hear Emily speak.

“I… I don’t know” Emily found her voice.

“What in heaven’s sake do you mean you don’t know?” Madison asked.

“I don’t know how he is Madison, I divorced him” Emily blurted and she heard Madison gasp.

“What the hell!!!” Madison yelled. “What are you talking about? Where are you?” Madison asked all at once.

“I am at a hotel at the edge of New York, Belmont hotel” Emily gave away her location.

“Damn!!” Madison complained. “Don’t go anywhere, I am on my way, I have to see your face when we talk about this” Madison said and hung up.

Emily sat on the bed like a zombie.

The Kingston enterprises must be falling really badly because of this discovery on Anthony.

The old man caused a ruckus and decided to have a heart attack.

Emily didn’t know if she should call Caden, he must have seen the papers by now, he would never forgive her.

Emily scrolled through the millions of posts about Anthony and Anna, she felt really sorry for George.

She knew little about his relationship with Anna but she could tell he loved Anna.

Anna is a bitçh for doing this to him.

Emily entered her call logs and she saw Caden’s name.

Her heart ached when she saw the amount of times he called her, he must have been confused, hurt and worried.

She didn’t want to hurt him, that’s why she divorced him but that’s exactly what she did.

Emily clenched her phone in her hand tightly as she tapped on his name.

The phone rang.

Once.

Twice.

Thrice.

Until it stopped. No answer.

Emily’s heart thumped in her chest so hard she could literally hear it.

She called again and same thing.

Was he avoiding her?

Is that why he had refused to answer any of her calls?

Emily stared into space as her phone vibrated violently in her hand.

Her eyes snapped towards it and it was Caden calling.

She bit the inner walls of her mouth hard and accepted the call with shaky fingers.

“I’m outside the hotel, come out now” Caden’s cold voice ordered and Emily flinched.

Outside her hotel?

How did he know where to find her?

Did Madison tell him?

But it would take a while for him to get here if Madison had told him.

Emily wore sweat pants and a shirt over it quickly, she wore her simple slip ons before dashing out of the room.

When she got downstairs, she recognized his car parked just outside the hotel.

Belmont hotel wasn’t a big hotel, it’s barely above average, citizens hardly visit this area so it’s mostly quiet.

Perfect if someone wants to hide from the paparazzi or people in general.

Emily walked towards Caden’s car and opened the door, she entered the backseat and she met Caden.

He didn’t even bother to look at her. “Caden” Emily started, she wanted to explain to him.

“I don’t want to hear it Emily” his words cut through her.

Emily swallowed hard.

The man sitting at the driver’s side gave him an envelope and he tossed it to Emily who looked confused as she opened it.

Their divorce papers, he already signed them.

They are legally divorced now.

Emily’s eyes stung when she saw it and her hands shook terribly.

“Why?” She asked.

“Isn’t that what you wanted? I granted your wish Emily” Caden said, his voice devoid of emotions.

“I did it for you!” Emily yelled, her voice hoarse.

“No.. you didn’t!” Caden snapped. “If you cared enough about me you wouldn’t have given me these papers already signed”

“You were going to-“

“I don’t care about your explanation Emily, we are done!” Caden cut her off. “I am getting engaged to Lia in a week’s time, our divorce would be announced today,” Caden informed.

Emily’s stomach churned at his words, her heart stopped. “Engaged?” She rasped.

“Yes,” Caden replied calmly. “You can leave now” he balanced himself properly on his seat.

Emily wanted to scream.

Did he just say he was getting engaged to Lia?

“I know you’re angry but why would you do this to me?” Emily asked, her tears already falling.

“Angry? Emily I am not angry, I am furious and disappointed. You didn’t trust me, if you had told me what Beatrice said I would have told you it was a lie because I would have won regardless, my father won’t do a thing about it but it doesn’t matter now, you were right, you find it hard to trust me and I should have believed you, I shouldn’t have given you my heart, it doesn’t matter what I do, you will never trust me, not now, not even in a million years and you have no damn idea how much that hurts, we are over now, I really hope I don’t see you anymore, leave before I throw you out!” Caden eyes burned with fury.

This was the first time he showed this type of emotion towards her.

Caden had tracked her location immediately her phone turned on, he wanted to make sure she knew they were over before marrying Lia.

“Caden……” Emily sobbed, her throat burned.

“Leave!!” Caden ordered and Emily sucked in a breath.

It didn’t matter what she says now, he wouldn’t listen.

Is this really how it ends for them?

Emily opened the door slowly and walked down, the car sped off immediately and Emily fell to the ground.

Her tears running free, she had no idea love could hurt this much.

The entire world faded into nothing around her as her tears wet the ground beneath her.

Her phone vibrated in her hand but she really couldn’t care who was calling her right now, it didn’t matter.

“Emily?” She heard a familiar voice but she couldn’t bring herself to turn towards the voice. “Damn Emily, are you okay?” She heard the same voice again as a hand rested on her back.

Emily couldn’t answer, when she turned her head she couldn’t make out the face, her vision blurry.

The figure helped her up and walked her back into the hotel.

She didn’t know where she was led to but eventually her àss cheeks rested on a soft cushion.

Emily blinked her tears away and she managed to see her surroundings, she was at the rest area of the hotel, close to the receptionist desk.

“Emily?” She heard the family voice call her again, it became clearer.

A male.

James….

James Cater.

“I’m fine” Emily managed out as she wiped the tears away from her eyes.

“You don’t look fine” James said as a waiter brought a bottle of water.

James opened the bottle and handed it over to Emily who drank half the content.

“I’m really fine,” she said as she returned the water back to him. “What are you doing here?” Emily asked and James rubbed the back of his head.

“Just needed space from the drama” he chuckled awkwardly.

That was a total lie.

Emily looked at him like she didn’t quite believe him.

“Thank you” she smiled and stood up but James grabbed her wrist and Emily turned to him with a frown.

He stood up too and released her wrist. “I won’t pretend I didn’t see you crying on the floor outside a hotel, did you and Caden have a fight?” James asked.

“It’s none of your concern what happens between myself and Caden” Emily replied and walked away.

“Emily!” She heard Madison’s voice.

Her friend rushed up to her and engulfed her in a hug.

“We have so much to talk about” Madison pulled away.

“I know, I would take you to my room” Emily replied weakly and she walked away with Madison.

James watched them go with an expressionless gaze.

It was pure coincidence he met Emily here, he actually came here to meet his sister who he was hiding away from that man.

His phone rang in his pocket and he picked it up with a sigh.

“The tables have turned” the man’s voice sounded through the phone.

“Yes… Caden would naturally inherit the company since Anthony might be dead already” James replied as he walked out of the hotel.

“Meaning you’re useless now” the man said and James drew in a sharp breath.

“Does this mean you’ll leave me alone?” James asked.

“I don’t know yet but you’re safe for now” James could feel the man smirk before he hung up.

James searched his phone and saw a video of Anthony hitting his first wife, Caden’s mom.

He was using it to blackmail Anthony but now it was useless.

He deleted the video and pocketed his phone before walking away.

_

“What?!” Madison yelled immediately Emily told her what happened with Caden.

Emily’s eyes were already pooling with tears just remembering the events.

They both sat on the bed

“I know you messed up but he is way out of line, how dare he speak about marrying Lia?” Madison screamed.

“I don’t know,” Emily choked out.

Madison pulled her into her hug, rubbing her back softly.

“Stop crying, he isn’t worth it” Madison comforted.

“What should I do now?” Emily asked in between sobs.

“You need to clean yourself up and stop crying and we need to get the hell out of this hotel” Madison answered.

“Where would I go?” Emily asked.

“My apartment, you would stay in my apartment because there’s no way you would go to your parents place, they would ask too many questions” Madison said and Emily nodded slowly.

{STONE MANSION}

Layla rushed towards Harper who just entered the living room.

“Have you seen the news?” She screamed at her husband.

“Yes I have, I knew Anthony was a priçk” Harper scoffed.

“Not that! Caden and Emily are divorced!” Layla informed and Harper looked shocked.

“Really?” He asked.

“Yes! Caden just released the official statement, Emily didn’t say anything to you?” Layla asked.

“Of course she didn’t, have you tried calling her?” Harper asked.

“I would do that now!” Layla replied and dialed Emily’s number.

“In a way, this is a good thing, I’m glad she divorced him, he didn’t deserve her” Harper replied and walked up the stairs while Layla glared at him.

“If he didn’t deserve her, why would he force her to marry him?” Layla sneered.

She didn’t want Emily to divorce Caden, she actually liked Caden.

Layla frowned when Emily didn’t pick any of her calls.

“Emily, what’s going on with you?” She muttered.

{ANNA’S PALACE}

Anna screamed at the phone in her hand, the paparazzi were outside her house leaving no room for her to escape.

She kept receiving calls from all the companies she had signed contracts with, they kept terminating her contract and cutting her off.

Even her modeling company released a statement that they have nothing to do with her.

She had been calling George but her calls went unanswered untill she couldn’t get through to him at all.

He blocked her but she refused to accept the facts.

Her parents were the only ones calling her but she kept rejecting their calls.

She didn’t want to speak to them, they couldn’t help her, not in any way.

It took hours for Anna to finally realize she wasn’t going to get help from anywhere, she had been trapped here since yesterday and no one was coming to her aid.

Anna wore simple clothes, a nose mask and a cap over head.

She followed through the back door of her building, hoping she won’t run into any paparazzi on her way out.

Luckily for her she didn’t meet everyone there. They were around the house yesterday but I guess some of them gave up and went home.

Anna hailed a taxi and got in.

_

The taxi stopped a few meters away from Anna’s parents house and the place was also swarmed by paparazzi.

She had a feeling her parents won’t be inside anymore, they probably left when the videos got released.

Was that why her mom was calling her?

Her phone vibrated again and she saw a call from her mom.

This time she answered.

“Yes?”

“Where are you? I have been calling you” Stella complained.

“Where are you and dad?” Anna asked instead.

“We moved to our old house, George is planning on flying us to Miami, your father has a house there, I want you to come with us” Stella answered.

“George?” Anna said quietly.

“Yes! I can’t believe you did that to him” her father yelled into the phone.

“Don’t say that to her!” Stella frowned.

She knew what Anna did was wrong but Anna was her daughter, how would she abandon her.

“I would prefer it if you don’t come at all,” her father scoffed.

“Don’t listen to him, you can come with us” Stella informed.

“From today henceforth, you don’t have a daughter anymore, I never wanted you both as my parents but fate was very cruel and it’s still cruel to me, goodbye mom, don’t look for me” Anna said and hung up.

She turned off her phone and threw it out the window.

“Drive” she said to the taxi driver who roared the engine to life and drove off.

{A WEEK LATER~MADISON’S APARTMENT~5AM}

Emily sat on the couch, her eyes were lifeless and her face pale.

She had ignored all of her parents calls, she only sent a single message to her mom.

“I’m fine, I don’t want to talk right”

They stopped calling after that and she was glad they weren’t disturbing her anymore.

Madison walked into the living room already dressed to leave the house, she gave Emily pity eyes as Emily watched a show playing on the television in front of her.

Nathan replaced Madison’s television when he saw the space was empty.

“You can’t sit on the couch all day feeling sorry Ems” Madison said the exact same words she had been telling Emily for the past week.

Emily ate from the bag of chips in her hand without looking at Madison.

She knew her friend was worried about her but she couldn’t stop herself from feeling this way.

Madison’s phone rang and she smiled when she saw it was Nathan calling.

Their relationship has significantly improved, she could call herself his girlfriend now and there’s no doubt she was head over heels for the guy.

“Hi babe” she smiled and Emily turned to her with a raised eyebrow.

“I would be out soon” she said over the phone avoiding Emily’s gaze then she hung up.

“Don’t wait up for me,” Madison informed Emily. “And eat something apart from chips” Madison ordered before leaving the house.

Emily sighed. At least one of them had a healthy relationship.

The thought of Caden brought fresh grief to Emily and she picked up her phone.

His engagement with Lia is supposed to happen today.

Emily didn’t want him to get engaged to Lia, she convinced herself he was just saying that to hurt her and he wasn’t actually serious.

Immediately Emily checked the tabloids, she saw pictures of the both of them.

Lia and Caden.

Lia was standing awfully too close to Caden as she hooked her arm around his, she smiled brightly while Caden had a null expression.

They were engaged.

The shinny rings on their fingers were visible.

Emily finally realized they were over.

He actually got engaged to Lia.

He is going to marry her.

Fresh tears rushed down her cheek and her breath hitched.

She covered her mouth with her palms as she sobbed into her hand quietly.

She made a decision to leave.

She won’t stay here and watch them get married like she isn’t hurting when she is in fact hurting so much.

Emily sniffed, muffling her cries.
