‎To say Caden was surprised by Emily’s presence was an understatement.

“Emily?” He called softly but Emily was fighting a war within her.

She is currently witnessing her husband cheating on her.

Who is this lady and why is she sitting on Caden’s lap like they were a married couple?

“Who is this Cade?” The lady asked with a confused expression as she stared at Emily.

“Get up Lia” Caden ordered her but Lia pouted.

“Are you telling me to stand up because of this woman? Isn’t she your secretary or something?” Lia complained.

“I’m his wife and I suggest you get you àss off my husband this instant” Emily didn’t even know when the words rolled out of her mouth.

Her gaze was burning with anger as she stared at Lia and Caden.

“Who do you think you’re talking to?” Lia retorted with a frown.

“I don’t give a shît who you are” Emily walked towards them and pulled Lia from Caden.

Lia stumbled and fell to the ground.

“Emily” Caden said as he got up from his chair.

“I can’t believe you let her sit on your lap like that, I thought you said you won’t cheat on me!” Emily yelled at Caden who looked amused.

The entire situation was amusing to him.

“I didn’t cheat on you, Lia is a friend” Caden explained.

“A friend that sits on your lap? I doubt it” Emily rolled her eyes.

“Caden how could you let her treat me like this?” Lia complained as she got up from the floor.

Her eyes watering like she was about to cry.

“If you wanna cry, do it outside” Emily snapped.

She didn’t buy this attitude Lia was portraying, she looked pretentious.

“I would talk to you later Lia, leave” Caden said since Lia wasn’t leaving.

Lia bit the inner walls of her mouth hard before walking out of the office.

“I would prefer it, if you don’t talk to her again” Emily frowned and Caden dragged her by the waist to himself making Emily gasp.

“Your jealousy is cute” Caden smirked and waved of heat rushed through her body.

“I’m not jealous, which wife would want to see her husband cheating on her?” Emily said defensively.

“I still think it’s cute and I didn’t cheat on you, I would never, you came in immediately she sat on me” Caden replied, their faces inches apart and Emily’s throat ran dry because her body was literally pressed against his.

“You body is warm, are you having a fever?” Emily asked hurriedly.

Her hand flew to his forehead to check his temperature.

“You’re burning up Caden!” Emily exclaimed.

“I am?” Caden touched his head.

“I can’t believe you’re still working in this condition, I’m taking you home right now!” Emily declared and dragged Caden out of his office.

{PENTHOUSE}

A beautiful, well decorated and furnished penthouse belonged to Lia, it was one of the properties her mother owned so it belonged to her too.

She was staying here years ago before she went to London and now that she’s back in New York, it’s only natural she returned to the house.

“Urghhhhh that stupid bitçh, who does she think she is!” Lia yelled like a maniac, her eyes were red with anger.

If she should burn Emily then she definitely would.

“Wife my àss! If not because of mom, I would have married Caden” she screamed.

A maid stood in front of her with her eyes on the floor like it was the most beautiful thing she had ever laid her eyes on.

“Where’s the report on the bitçh?” She asked the lady who finally looked up to her and handed her a file.

Lia took it from her roughly and scanned through it.

“A journalist? Stone family? How ridiculous, her family can’t even raise a finger to the Kingstons. why would Caden marry someone like that?” Lia scoffed.

Lia’s mom had made sure she cut her off from every thing happening in New York, especially news about Caden.

Her mother knew how much she was obsessed with Caden and that’s one of the reasons why she asked her to leave New York.

“I would have to deal with this bitçh” Lia said and got up from the couch.

She walked upstairs and entered her bedroom.

Nothing has changed, it was still the same, exactly the way she left it years ago.

Lia smiled as she walked towards her walk-in closet, when she entered she didn’t waste time and went to the wardrobe.

She threw all the clothes in the wardrobe to the floor and a huge smile curled up her lips.

The wall of the wardrobe was filled with different pictures of Caden.

Lia ran her hands through the pictures and giggled.

{NEXT DAY~HOSPITAL}

George walked into the building and through the numerous nurses.

He pushed the door to the VIP ward open and his eyes met with a sick, pale old man who had different tubes and machines attached to him.

“Hey dad” George breathed and he walked towards the bad.

His gaze devoid of emotions as he stared at the frail man who was barely keeping his eyes open.

“You…you came” Calvin let out a weak smile.

George didn’t think his father’s condition was this severe, he made it his mission not to know anything about the man.

“I don’t have all day” George said impatiently.

People may think he was rude and ungrateful with the way he spoke with his father but this man deserved every bit of it.

“Still carrying that hatred with you? You need to learn to let go, I was also a victim” Calvin replied.

“I tried, I tried so hard to understand you, to feel sorry for you but I just couldn’t, mom may have kîlled herself but you pushed her to it” George gritted his teeth, his vision turning red.

“She cheated on me and just because I deprived her of some privileges she thought it was wise to commit sûcide?” Calvin complained weakly.

“That wasn’t one of her best decisions, cheating is inexcusable but you were never around, she was lonely” George defended and ran his hands through his hair. “You confined her for months after that, I wasn’t even allowed to see her, it’s only normal she killed herself because she couldn’t take it anymore” George fired.

“I didn’t call you here to argue with you, you’re my son and as you can see, I am dying” Calvin coughed. “I’m handing everything to you, even though you want nothing to do with me, just make sure the Finn name doesn’t fall to the ground” Calvin pleaded.

“You only ever care about your reputation and company, I never expected you to feel sorry for mom but I would be lying if I said I never had hope” George replied and walked out of the room.

He shut the door behind him and to him deep breaths.

He needs to get his shît together because Caden won’t be able to go to the office today so he has to go.

“Good morning” a nurse greeted as she walked past him. “The doctor who takes care of your father has been transferred, a new doctor would be assigned to him soon” the nurse informed and he simply nodded before walking out of the hospital.

He entered his car and turned on his phone, the message from yesterday was still there.

Unknown number: I have a piece of information that you would be interested in.

Even though he answered, the person hasn’t texted back yet.

He had tried tracing the number but it led to a burner phone.

He decided to forget about it, he had other problems to deal with.

{AUSTRALIA~PENTHOUSE}

Madison sat on the couch with her phone in one hand while she ate chips with the other hand.

She was scrolling through the gossip site as usual, she really missed working as a journalist and she definitely couldn’t wait to get back to New York.

Her phone rang and she flinched when she saw the caller ID.

It was her brother, Ambrose.

Did he see the news about her and Nathan?

Is that why he is calling?

But why hasn’t he called till now?

She let the phone ring till it stopped and she sighed in relief, then it started again.

“Damnit” she muttered before accepting the call.

“What do you want?” Madison snapped.

“I am at your place, why aren’t you at home? Your neighbors said you’ve be gone for almost a month now, did you relocate or something?” Ambrose barked.

“I didn’t, I travelled for work” Madison lied, hoping he hasn’t seen the tabloids.

“Okay good, I need cash, you can just send it to me, same account as always” Ambrose replied and Madison stopped herself from scoffing.

This jackàss!!

“I don’t have money to give you, I’m barely managing, I can’t give you money everytime!” Madison complained.

“If you don’t have money then ask that rich boyfriend of yours” Ambrose yelled and Madison heart dropped to her stomach. “You think I didn’t see the news, it was all over the Internet, I am happy for you, I was hoping you wouldn’t refuse me since you’re dating some rich dude but I guess not” Ambrose scoffed.

“I can’t just ask him for money Ambrose, it doesn’t work like that” Madison tried to explain.

“Then get me cash whatever way you can or else I would tear you apartment apart, you know what I am capable of Maddy” Ambrose threatened and hung up leaving Madison shaking.

“Who was that?” Madison heard Nathan’s voice behind her and she turned sharply to see him standing behind her.

His hands were inside his pants pocket and he had a frown on his face.

Madison quickly sat properly on the couch.

She had thought Nathan left the house this morning, she didn’t know he was still around.

And did he hear her conversation with her brother?

Nahh…. The phone wasn’t on speaker so he only heard her part of the conversation right?

“The cat got your tongue?” Nathan asked as he walked towards the couch and slumping beside Madison.

“No one, just my brother” Madison replied hoping her voice came out natural.

“He wants money that badly that he told you to ask me for it?” Nathan raised an eyebrow and Madison stomach churned.

Shît! He heard and understood.

“It’s nothing serious, forget you heard that” Madison chuckled awkwardly but Nathan doesn’t look like he was going to let it go.

“I couldn’t quite hear what he was saying but by your body language it sounded like he was threatening you” Nathan reasoned.

“Eavesdropping on people’s conversation isn’t gentlemanly!” Madison snapped, she didn’t want anyone preying on her life.

She definitely didn’t want anyone knowing she had an abûsive àss for an older brother.

“You’re in my house Madison, it’s hard not to hear anything” Nathan frowned.

“Yeah… I almost forgot I am leaving under your roof, thanks for the reminder” Madison rolled her eyes and left the bedroom.

Nathan’s frown deepened, he brought out his phone and called someone.

“Madison has a brother, I want everything you can get about him” he spoke calmly before hanging up.

{CADEN’S HOUSE~10AM}

Emily collected the already made breakfast from Luis and walked upstairs to Caden’s room.

She didn’t even bother knocking, she just pushed the door open and walked inside.

He wasn’t on the bed.

Where the hell did he go to?

“Caden?” She called then she heard the shower running. “Ohh, bathroom” she muttered.

She used the opportunity to look around the room.

It is definitely bigger and better than hers, the room was perfectly decorated in white and black.

Though it was weird, it’s beautiful.

Emily’s eyes landed on the biggest shocker of her life.

A bookshelf.

A freaking bookshelf.

Caden reads?

“Definitely doesn’t look like the type” Emily muttered.

“Why are you in my room?” Emily heard Caden’s voice and she turned.

He just came out of the bathroom and his was wet with a towel tied around his waist, his upper body was bare.

Holy shît!

Emily couldn’t stop herself from staring.

He doesn’t just have a handsome face, he also had a perfectly toned body.

Broad shoulders, defined arms, and an athletic build of someone who trains consistently.

“It’s pretty hard not to get a turn on with the way you’re staring at me” Caden said and Emily blinked.

“I wasn’t staring! Did you bath with cold or hot water? you’re having a fever, you should be specific on the water temperature” Emily changed the topic.

“My fever died down during the night, I’m perfectly fine now” Caden replied.

“You should still be careful, I brought breakfast, you shouldn’t skip meals if you’re going to over work yourself” Emily ordered.

“I love how much you care about me wife” Caden smiled as he walked up to her but Emily moved away.

“I care about not being a widow” Emily retorted and Caden laughed.

Emily rolled her eyes and headed for the small table by the window where she dropped the tray of breakfast.

“you should eat, food makes you strong” Emily said changing the topic and Caden hummed, following her.

“Are you planning to feed me too?” Caden teased.

“In your dreams.” Emily rolled her eyes.

“Every night, sweetheart.” Caden replied and Emily glared at him but the heat on her cheeks betrayed her.

“Just eat, Caden.” She sighed.

He finally sat, pulling the tray closer. She watched him quietly as he took the first bite.

His shoulders relaxed a little, the tension in his jaw softening.

Clearly, he had been feeling worse than he admitted.

After a moment he looked up, expression unreadable.

“Why are you really in my room, Emily?” Caden asked with a raised eyebrow.

“I…. I brought breakfast.” Emily stuttered.

“You could’ve left it at the door.” Caden retorted and Emily swallowed.

She didn’t want to say she was worried or that the half-n+ked view of him had scrambled her brain.

“It doesn’t matter,” she muttered. “Just keep eating.” Emily added and Caden smiled like he could see through her.

“You know… most wives check on their husbands because they care. You? You act like it’s a crime.” Caden complained.

“Because you make everything weird!” Emily snapped.

“Or maybe,” he said, leaning back lazily, “you’re scared of how you feel about me” He shrugged and Emily’s breath hitched.

“Keep dreaming.” Emily replied.

But before he could answer, Caden’s phone buzzed on the nightstand. He picked it up, glanced at the screen and sighed heavily.

Emily noticed instantly. “What’s wrong?”

Caden stood abruptly, grabbing a shirt. “I have to go.”

“You’re sick—”

“I’m fine,” he cut her off, already buttoning up. “I’m not sick anymore” Caden added and Emily remained quiet in defeat.

{KINGSTON ENTERPRISES}

The elevator doors open and Caden Caden met George standing in front of him.

“What is that old man doing again?” Caden asked as he walked out of the elevator with George trailing behind him.

“I have no idea, it’s really suspicious to just call a meeting so abruptly” George replied.

“Did you contact him?” Caden asked.

“Yes, he’s not in New York at the moment but he would be arriving tomorrow, so I scheduled the meeting for tomorrow” George answered.

“Okay. How’s your father?” Caden asked and George paused.

“We would talk about that later, first with need to deal with your own daddy issues” George responded.

They walked into the conference room and took a seat.

Every important person in the Kingston enterprises is sitting at this table, meaning his father wants to make a big announcement.

Caden’s jaw tightened, he had a really bad feeling about this meeting.

“Rude of you to keep everyone waiting, son” Anthony fired.

“That’s the problem with calling abrupt meetings like this, there’s always a late comer, get on with it father” Caden retorted with a calm gaze and Anthony’s jaw ticked.

Anthony took a deep breath before starting.

“It’s with great displeasure that I call for a reelection of a new COO (Chief operating officer) of this company” Anthony dropped and everyone became silent with shock.

Caden squeezed his hands into a fist in anger but his facial expression remains neutral.

After a while of silence, the murmurs began.

Of course you everyone was shocked, why would Kingston Anthony want to replace his own son.

“This is absurd” George voiced out.

“It’s not, he made us waste time, money and effort in an oil refinery that ended up a big failure,” Anthony defended.

Caden gaze was spitting fire, so this was what this man was planning all along.

Damn Anthony Kingston.

“Would Caden be joining the reelection?” The chief marketing officer, Adam asked.

“If he wishes to” Anthony replied and the murmurs increased.

Caden was quiet throughout, he didn’t see a need to argue, after all, Anthony is the CEO of Kingston enterprises.

“I can’t believe that old man” George complained as they walked into Caden’s office.

“He is plotting something, the fact that he agreed I join the reelection proves that he has other plans” Caden reasoned.

“Oh c’mon, we already have the oil refinery to deal with, now this?” George groaned.

“We would decide what to do when the participants list for the election is out” Caden informed and George nodded.

{LIA’S PENTHOUSE}

Lia was on her phone, staring at Caden’s recent photos and admiring them, she was giggling like a little girl that was given a pony.

She heard footsteps and she looked up to see her mother staring at her with a frown.

“Caden again?” The woman asked as she saw Lia’s phone.

“Seriously? Is that how to say hello to your daughter you haven’t seen in years!!!” Lia exclaimed and stood up to huge her mother. “You sound like you aren’t happy to see me mom” Lia complained.

“I told you to quit your obsession with Caden” the woman reprimanded and Lia rolled her eyes.

“Why? Because he is your husband’s son?” Lia scoffed. “He isn’t your son though so we aren’t related, I can love him all I want” Lia added.
