ZOE’S POV
After leaving the club, I went over to Marge place.
I did not go back to my apartment because I didn’t want my sisters to see me like this. All teary and weak.
They would have asked a lot of questions and I wouldn't have been able to answer.
I needed to be alone. To think. To cry. To heal.
I had never cried like this in my entire life.
My body was tired. My heart was shattered.
I couldn't erase the images of Adrian and that girl. The girl, who he would marry.
Every time I closed my eyes, the message came up.
How she was excited. How she couldn’t wait.
Adrian and I were just a mistake. A silly game. Something, he did for fun.
I should have known.
It was his words. His actions. They were all a lie.
But he was the best. And it felt so real.
He was an actor. An excellent one.
He had finally gotten what he wanted. He had f+cked me and that was it.
Adrian had a girl already.
The tears started streaming down my cheeks.
F+ck. I wiped them off quickly.
I didn't want to cry. I didn’t want to shed anymore tears for him.
“Zoe.” I heard Marge call my name as she walked into the room.
She had gone downstairs a while ago after hearing some noise.
"Are you okay?" She asked and sat next to me.
I sniffed and shook my head.
"No. I'm not."
Marge handed me a glass of water.
"Drink it. It will calm you down." She said.
I took the glass from her and sipped the water.
"What happened downstairs? What was the noise about?” I asked.
“Nothing.” She said and patted me on the back.
I leaned closer to her and placed my head on her shoulders.
“Why do bad things happen to me Marge?” I asked. “Why can’t I be happy?”
Marge was quiet.
She wrapped her arms around me and hugged me tightly.
"Everything is going to be alright. Don't cry." She whispered.
She stroked my hair gently. “You need to forget about Master. He’s not good for you. Forget about him."
"But I can’t.” I said and sat up to face her. My cheeks were stained with tears and I could feel a headache coming on.
"He's the only one, who can make me happy. You don't know how he makes me feel."
Marge looked into my eyes.
"I know exactly how you feel. It’s just like Chris and I. I know Chris is not good for me. He’s a deadbeat drug addict who does nothing but spend my money. But I love him. So, I stay with him. Even though we fight. And even though we hurt each other. I stay with him." She said.
Marge used her hand to wipe the tears from my face.
"What I'm saying is that, love is crazy. Sometimes you meet someone and you fall for them. Even if they are a total jerk and will never love you back. You keep going back to them because it hurts when you are apart. But no matter how many times you get hurt, you will always want them." She continued.
Marge had a sad look on her face.
"That's the way, love is. No matter what anyone says, it's crazy."
I sighed.
"Yeah. That's what it is. It's crazy." I nodded.
Then she gave me a little smile.
"But sometimes, you need to move on. Even though it hurts and you can feel your heart breaking. You have to let them go. And then you find someone better. Someone, who can truly love you." She said.
I knew what Marge was trying to say. But it wasn't easy.
Adrian was all I could think about.
If I had known this would happen. I wouldn't have slept with him.
F+ck.
My mind was racing.
The tears were still falling down my face.
"What should I do, Marge? Should I just leave him alone and try to forget about him. Is that what I should do? Pretend that none of this happened."
She was quiet for a minute before answering.
"Maybe."
I sighed and took another sip of the water.
The minutes ticked by and we didn't speak.
I kept staring at the blank TV screen.
My mind was a mess.
Everything was so exhausting.
******************************************
It was late evening when I decided to leave Marge place. The sky was getting gloomy and it was about to rain.
I had to head out quickly. I planned to go to the hospital first and check on my mother before heading home.
“It’s about to rain.” Marge said when she saw me getting ready to leave.
"Yeah." I replied and picked up my bag.
"Don't you need an umbrella?” She asked. “I don’t have one. But I can ask my neighbors if they have one." She said.
"It's okay. You don’t have to bother them. Besides, the rain hasn’t started yet and I plan on taking a taxi." I said and walked to the door.
"No. You don’t have to. Let me drive you. Just wait for a bit and I'll get dressed." Marge said.
"That's really nice of you, but no thanks. I'll be fine." I said.
Marge looked worried.
"Please. I can't let you leave alone. You’re not thinking straight. You just had a horrible day." She said.
I smiled.
"I’m fine Marge. I can handle myself. Thank you for offering and I appreciate your concern. But really, I'll be fine. I need some time alone. I promise."
"Okay." She sighed.
I opened the front door and looked back at her.
"Thank you for everything Marge. I love you. Bye.”
"Bye." She waved and I closed the door.
******************************************
As soon as I stepped out of the apartment building, it started pouring.
"Damn. So much for taking a taxi." I cussed.
It was cold and windy outside. The rain was coming down heavily.
"Great. Now, I have to walk. Thanks a lot, mother nature." I complained as I walked.
There were no umbrellas or anything that could shield me from the rain.
My shoes were getting wet and my clothes were soaked.
This was turning out to be a horrible night.
I thought.
Suddenly, I heard someone call out my name.
“Zoe.”
I turned. Who was that?
Was it Marge? Ughh, I told her not to worry. I didn’t want her getting wet.
"I'm fine Marge. You can go back insi—" I stopped.
It wasn’t Marge.
It was Adrian!
My heart skipped a beat. What was he doing here?
"Hello Zoe." Adrian smiled and waved.
Adrain was standing right there, in front of me. Drenched from head to toe.
His dark hair was wet and his white shirt was stuck to his chest.
The water dripped down his face.
He looked so gorgeous in the rain. His eyelashes were wet and his lips were so red.
My eyes were fixed on him.
"Zoe." He called out again and snapped me back to reality.
I blinked.
"Adrian, why are you here?" I asked.
"And the rain….You’re wet.” I added.
Adrian chuckled and wiped the water off his face.
"You noticed?" He joked.
"Why are you here?" I asked him again.
He didn’t say anything.
Instead, he took a step closer to me.
“You left Zoe. You left me at the club. I woke up and you weren’t there.” He said.
I bit my lip and looked away.
I couldn’t bear to look into his eyes.
“I came here looking for you. Ramona gave me your Marge’s address. But when I talked to Marge. She said kicked me out of the building. I couldn’t go anywhere else. I needed to see you. So, I stayed out here. I was waiting for you. Hoping that you would come around.” Adrian said.
Then he laughed.
“I didn’t even know that you were in there. Marge didn’t tell me. She must really hate me.” He said.
I rubbed my temple. The rain was cold and I was freezing.
"Why are you doing this, Adrian? You didn't have to come here." I spoke.
Adrian moved closer. He stood directly in front of me.
"I had to. I wanted to. Marge said you saw the texts. Let me explain.” He spoke.
His voice was low and soft.
I shook my head.
"Stop Adrian. I’m tired of hearing you talk. I’m tired of this. I just can’t anymore.” I said and began walking away.
"Zoe. Don't walk away from me." He said and grabbed my hand.
I stopped.
"Let me go." I tried pulling my hand away, but his grip on me was tight.
"No. Not until you listen to me." He said.
"Why? So, you can break my heart again? Tell more lies. Give me more hope. And then crush it all?" I yelled.
"No, Zoe. That's not it. Just listen to me, please. I can explain." Adrian pleased.
I pulled my hand away from him.
"Explain what? I saw the texts, Adrian. You have a fiancée. She said she couldn't wait to be your wife. Why don’t you leave me and go be with her?” I asked while shaking my head. I could feel the tears in my eyes.
"I was so stupid. So so stupid. I don’t blame you Adrian. I blame me. You told me from the beginning, not to fall in love with you. And you told me at the party that you were engaged, but yet, I fell for you. So, it was my fault. All my fault." I cried.
Adrian was staring at me.
"Zoe, I—" He tried to speak but I interrupted him.
"No. Stop. Just stop. I get it. What we had was a one night stand. Nothing more. And I'm cool with that. It’s ok. Congratulations, Adrian. You’ve broken my heart.” I yelled at him.
I was crying now. The tears mixed with the rain and fell onto the ground.
"You win. You can leave. You're free now. You can go marry that girl." I sobbed. I felt weak.
I just wanted to collapse. I couldn’t hold it anymore. All the sadness. All the anger. It was too much.
But I didn't want him to see me cry. Not anymore.
So, I ran. I didn’t look back. I didn't want to hear his voice.
"Zoe, don't run. Please." He said.
His voice was so faint.
I didn’t reply. I kept going.
"Zoe." He called again.
F+ck.
"Go away, Adrian. Leave me alone. I'm done. Go be with your fiancée. I don't care anymore."
I didn’t mean it.
But the words were coming out.
"I can't be with her." He said.
Adrian caught up with me. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into a tight hug.
"Let go of me." I struggled to get away, but he wouldn’t release me.
"I can't be with her, because I'm in love with you, Zoe. I am." He said.
I froze.
"What?"
Adrian loosened his grip and turned me around so that I could face him.
“I told you Zoe. I’m obsessed with you. I can't get enough of you.” He said again.
He placed his thumb on my lips and stroked them.
"Adrian. Don't say that. Please. Don't say that."
"It's true. I love you. I want to be with you." He whispered.
I felt his warm breath on my cheek. His eyes were shining in the dark.
The rain was still pouring.
My body was numb and my clothes were clinging to my skin.
"You love me?" I asked. My voice was hoarse.
"Yes. So, so much. I know that I'm a jerk. A huge jerk. But I want to make it up to you. If you give me the chance. I swear, I will make things right."
He leaned forward and kissed me.
"I don't deserve you. But please, give me a chance. Please." He said.
Then, he pressed his lips against mine again.
His hands were in my hair. My lips parted and our tongues met.
Adrian pulled me closer to him. I couldn't breathe.
My heart was beating so fast.
Adrian’s hands were under my wet shirt. He was caressing my back….my b👀bs…my belly. It felt amazing.
I could feel myself getting wetter. Not just from the rain but from his kisses. From his touch.
A warm feeling was spreading throughout my body.
It was all so intense. I wanted more.
"Adrian. Oh Adrian." I moaned.
"You taste so good. So sweet." He whispered as he kissed me harder.
Adrian took a deep breath and ran his fingers through his wet hair.
"You have no idea what you do to me, Zoe."
He was kissing my neck now.
"I'm sorry. Forgive me." He said.
The rain was falling on us.
"Adrian." I whispered.
My whole body was shivering.
"I love you, Zoe. Only you. No one else."
Adrian pulled his mouth away from my neck and stared into my eyes.
"Say that you love me too, Zoe.” He said.
I didn’t respond.
Adrian frowned.
"Don’t you love me, Zoe?" He asked.
My heart was racing.
I had so many emotions swirling around inside of me.
Anger. Happiness. Pain. Lust. Sadness.
How could I love him after everything?
"Answer me, Zoe." He said. Adrian was still holding onto me.
“I can’t. You’re engaged. You’re getting married. The text…" I tried to speak.
"Don't worry about the text. Or anything, Zoe. I love you. I’m not going to get married to her or anyone else." He said.
“I’m going to call it off. You are the only one for me, Zoe. I promise." He continued.
"Do you believe me, Zoe? Do you believe that I love you?" He asked.
I blinked. Did he just say he was calling off the wedding? Was this a joke?
“But your fiancée does she…Adrian. Wait. What are you saying?" I asked.
"Zoe. Do. You. Love. Me." He repeated slowly.
His voice was strong and firm. He was serious.
I didn't know what to think. Was he really stopping the marriage for me?
Master wanted me.
He was waiting for me to answer.
"Zoe."
"Zoe." He called again.
Adrian held my hand and placed it over his heart.
"Do you feel that?" He asked.
"Feel what?"
"My heartbeat." He said.
"Yes."
"Every beat, is for you." He told me.
His words made me melt. My heart fluttered.
"Oh Adrian."
"Tell me that you love me. Please. I need to hear you say it. Tell me, you love me, Zoe.” He pleaded.
I stared into his eyes. I couldn't help myself. It was all so crazy. But I knew what I wanted.
I wanted him. Only him.
"I love you, Adrian."
He smiled and leaned closer to me. He kissed me. Our lips locked together and our tongues danced.
His hand slipped down my waist and between my legs.
I m0aned and wrapped my arms around his neck.
I was getting wetter.
The rain was still coming down, but neither one of us cared.
We were lost in each other.
The world could end right then and there.
Nothing mattered.
We were together.
