KASARACHI

Kasarachi - Episode 40

(Tell it to God)

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

A week passed

It was now the day to appear in court against uncle Okafor and yet the two land documents are still nowhere to be found!

I have cried all the tears in my tears duct until there was nothing left to cry again.

Recently, I have developed consistent migraines and I've also been waking up with serious headaches for days now because of how mentally stressed I am.

This is getting too much for me to bear.

I'm just here laying tiredly on my bed and wondering when all this suffering will come to an end, that's if it will ever end at all.

Sμ¡cidal thoughts started flowing into my head. I began to think that maybe it is best I quietly k¡ll myself so I can rest from all of this earthly tortures and afflictions.

I have endured so much in this my young life and sometimes it is hard to believe that I am just twenty-two years old with the kind of unpleasant experiences I've had.

Only me; I became fatherless at a young age and then I was almost forced into a miserable early marriage with two brothers and an old cargo man Mazi Kalu.

Then later I was sent to the city in the guise of work but I was mistreated by Tochi and almost initiated into l£sbiænism by Brenda.

After the city adventure, I fell into a human trafficker's hand like Don who almost succeeded in bμtchering me and selling my heart out to the oyibo people for money.

That's not even enough oh, that encounter connected me to Halima who eventually turned out to be a dark-hearted woman. This same woman tormented my life in Mrs Sharon's house and then got me expelled from my university in a disgraceful way.

The last straw that broke the camel's back was when I was deported from Canada which was a place of comfort for me. I was brought down here to my country Nigeria where I am now facing this jobless struggle.

Today is this recent one!

I am legally dragging my own properties which I built from my sweat with my uncle; someone who is supposed to be looking out for me as his niece instead of battling me.

In the space of one year, I have experienced so many setbacks and frustrations in such a way I can boldly say it anywhere that this year is my worst year ever!

The court case is scheduled for 1pm and it is 11am right now. My eyes were fixated at the wall clock but my mind went very far away.

I'm wondering if this is how I am going to lose my houses the way I lost the right to step foot at my university and Canada itself.

I couldn't stop myself from whining so I blurted out and began speaking to God as though He was right here in the room with me. I actually wish he was!

This is too much for me to bear and I seriously need to relieve myself of the burdens in my heart before I explode!

It seems like in the other days, I have been too gentle with him and so I am going to be using a different approach today.

I want him to see how vexed and deeply wounded I am in the spirit.

That's why this time around, I was rhetorically telling my pain to God in an extremely aggressive and rude manner.

God tell me the honest truth, do you hate me....? Why me oh Lord...? Is it only me that you've seen on this earth to punish....?

I'm tired of my life! K¡ll me already Lord instead of allowing my enemies to torture me like this.

I have prayed to you, served in your vineyard, and obeyed you all my life but God you seem to be rewarding me with only pains and sorrows. Why only me....?

Most of my mates are not celibate anymore because they have gone into the world's version of Gen Z s£xual immorality.

They sleep around with different men for money while some are having s*x with their numerous boyfriends and they see it as something absolutely normal.

But here is me, Kasarachi Arinze who has honoured you by keeping myself pure and not engaging in s£xual immorality that will bring dishonor to your name.

Is it that I have not had the opportunities to misbehave....?

Gosh! I have had lots of opportunities while I was here in Nigeria and when I traveled to Canada, it became worse over the years.

Sincerely, I had lost count of the number of men that were asking me out for a normal or casual relationship which involved s£x.
Some were even direct in their approach of demanding sexual favors in exchange for monetary or other mouthwatering benefits.

I turned all of them down because I wanted to obey your commandments of not defiling my body until I am married to my husband.

Is this how you intend to pay me back for being a God-fearing lady....? Lord is this much you want to see me suffer....?

Let me also ask you this question which is out of sheer observation. Why is it that you usually reward the sinners more than those who uphold their Christian moral values....?

Are you now an impartial God or is there something I am doing wrong that is reprehensible....? You had better talk to me!

I blurted out rudely and authoritatively as though I was talking to my mate.

I heard no response to my questions, nothing at all! and to be sincere I wasn't even surprised. From the beginning, He has always been silent towards my plight!

Well God since you have decided to stay silent on me as you always do, there is no problem. I do not care about you anymore!

Infact, I want to promise you something today and I'm sorry if it is going to be a verdict you will likely not be happy with.

Like I said earlier, I do not care about your feelings anymore. I have finally reached my elastic limits with you and I am opting out!

My promise to you today is this; if I lose my properties to uncle Okafor in our legal battle, then bear in mind that I Kasarachi Arinze will not pray or worship you again.

I will officially cease to address or look up to you as my Father because you are obviously not worthy of being called one!
A worthy father will not treat his beloved daughter the way you always treat me.

I love you so much and that's why I am going to give you this last chance to prove yourself worthy of my honor and adoration!

After today's ruling in court, Lord, I will decide if I would continue with you or if I am going to cut ties with you permanently.

I decided this inwardly and none of these words I told myself were a joke. I meant every bit of them and I will carry it out!

At 12pm, I prepared myself and went to the court with Mama. I already told her everything and although she kept telling me to trust in God to handle my battles for me, I do not believe in those sayings again.

I cannot find the land papers which is like the strongest defense I had against uncle Okafor. How it disappeared from the house and my bedroom is what I do not know.

I know uncle Okafor has a hand in its disappearance but the question now is;
How was he able to have access to my bedroom and the drawer where I kept them.

I believe he surely used the help of an insider in the house but who could it be....?

Me I don't want to accuse or point fingers at anyone but the fact here is; the land papers disappearance still remains a mystery to me, even to Mama and my sister Osinachi.

I was called into the witness box and the land case began. The feeling of standing in here is terrible and brings back the unpleasant memories of what happened in Canada. Today's wahala with uncle Okafor is more like a reoccurrence.

The judge asked me if I had evidence to solidify my claim of being the lands owner.

I replied that I did until two days ago when it mysteriously disappeared from my house. I also told him that my phone was ceased in Canada so there's no way I can show the court the transfer alerts and invoices.

In summary I told him that currently, I have nothing substantial to back up my claims of being the one who owns the houses.

I wanted to mention the workers as evidence and then I realized that they probably know uncle Okafor, not me. I even heard uncle Okafor had been feeding them false tales by telling them that he is the one who owns the houses they've been building.

Right there in court, I started regretting trusting uncle Okafor with the building projects but what better choice did I even have....? Mama couldn't have done it because of her intellectual deficiencies.

Saving it until later wasn't an option too. I was scared of using it for something superficial without achieving a property.

Come to think of it! Imagine if I actually kept that money saved in my account hoping to use it for the building myself, whenever I finally came to Nigeria.

If I'm being truthful, I would have still lost every single kobo saved because my account was frozen before leaving Canada.

All the options just seem to be working against me in this my life, so it's pointless regretting anything sef.

Whatever wants to happen should happen! I said to myself that I didn't care again, even though deep down I knew that I still do!

When the judge asked uncle Okafor if he had evidence to solidify his own claims, he replied in the affirmative that he did.

His lawyer Mr Markson brought out and gave the court clerk two documents whose contents I didn't know, until the clerk announced that it was the land papers.

I was beyond shocked when I heard that. How did those papers get into Mr Markson's hands....?

This doesn't make sense to me and I doubt it ever would. Well probably it may make sense in the near future, but for now, I am so confused and shocked to see the documents in Mr Markson's possession!

What is even more shocking is hearing the clerk say that the documents are original and that it has uncle Okafor's names and signature written on it.

That isn't supposed to be so. I mean it's only the first house document that should be having uncle Okafor's name and signature.

The second one is supposed to be bearing Mama's name and signature, not his, except maybe he manipulated things in the papers!

The rate of my heartbeats began accelerating that I feared developing High Blood Pressure (HBP) at this young age.

Not just that, I was very close to getting into trauma shock. Thankfully the next words that were said in the court calmed me.

I became relieved when the clerk suddenly said that there's a mixup somewhere. He confirmed that the first document indeed has Mr Okafor's names and signature, but the second document has a different name.

Uncle Okafor seemed to be very surprised when he heard that. I could tell that this was  an oversight on his part and it's more like something he never expected or saw coming.

I'm guessing that in a rush to meet up with his lawyer, he must have genuinely forgotten that the second papers were signed by Mama, not him.
And probably his lawyer isn't professional enough else he would have cross-checked the documents given to him!

But it's rare to see a professional lawyer or my desperate uncle Okafor make such an oversight. So I do want to believe that it is God fighting for me by making uncle Okafor temporarily lose his focus and memory.

It's also possible that God made his lawyer lose his professionalism all for my sake because Mr Markson is one of the best lawyers and it's the reason my uncle hired him.

So how could he not tighten the loopholes, knowing fully well that such carelessness could actually dwindle their chances of winning against me.....?

Everything is hard to believe but one thing I do know about my Father in Heaven is that; He is the God of impossibilities and that with Him anything is actually possible.

Well lets wait and see how things will turn out, if it will be to my favour or it wouldn't.

For now, my heart is filled with joy and I am keeping hope alive. I want to believe God heard my tears and now He is truly fighting for me in the presence of my enemies!

After the clerk's announcement, the judge asked to see the document himself and it was brought to him by the clerk.

As an aged man, he gently wore his lenses before he began scrutinizing the papers closely. At the same time he was nodding his head as he read, while stylishly looking at me and uncle Okafor from under his lenses.

The question he later asked was directed at me. He asked if I knew anyone by the name Nkiru Arinze and who she was/is to me.

"Yes my Lord I know who goes by the name Nkiru Arinze. She is my mother and she's even seated here in this court room. She is that dark woman over there wearing blue lace" I said and pointed in Mama's direction.

Mama was asked to come forward and step into the witness box, and to tell the honorable court how her name and signature got to be written in one of the documents.

Mama came forward and did as she was instructed by entering the witness box. She told the court how I gave money for the houses to be built. But it was not possible for her to sign the first document because we were not in communication as at then.

Uncle Okafor kept chanting that it was a lie and that we were trying to defraud him. I chuckled within myself at his hypocrisy.

You can imagine a criminal calling my innocent mother what he is; a defrauder! Who between us is defrauding whom...?

The judge turned his gaze away from Mama to look at uncle Okafor intensely as though he could see through his lies and chants.

Uncle Okafor started becoming uncomfortable while still trying hard to maintain his composure and not sell himself short. I saw in him the thirst to win this legal battle whether the devil likes it or not!

The judge shook his head in silence and he lifted his head to look at me for a long time. He asked how old I am and how I was able to raise the money to build two houses since I claim that I personally funded the projects.

I told him how I worked in Canada and was earning legitimately at my employer's house which is what helped me save up money to be sending home for the building projects.

I told him how it was a huge sacrifice from my end as a young girl, but I didn't mind because I knew it was for a better cause back at home. I trusted my uncle with the projects and little did I know that coveting it later was his plan all along.

From the judge's facial expression and body language, I knew he was buying into what I was telling him which is actually the truth.

The case was going in the direction I wanted it to go, not until someone raised a hand amongst those sitting in the court.

When asked what the problem is, the person said there was more to be added which could be valuable to the case and prove that Mr Okafor owns the properties.

It was someone which I never knew or believed could be bold enough to want to side with uncle Okafor as an aide.

The person truly had a strong defense in the favor of uncle Okafor. It wasn't easy!

From that moment, the case took a U-turn from there. The end result of the change in direction is what unfolds soon enough.

For now I don't know if I am doomed or not until the judge passes his final judgement.

Do you think it will favor me or uncle Okafor....?
