KASARACHI

Kasarachi - Episode 37

(Tell it to God)

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

It didn't even take me long to find out because a very few minutes later, Osinachi and I heard very loud noises inside.

It was as though people were exchanging words in the sitting room but who exactly would it be at this time of the day....?

My other siblings weren't at home as the three of them went for their academic lessons at their school environment and would not be home until late in the evening.

Could it be that mama and her friend mummy Osita are having petty quarrels...? Even if that is the case, I really don't think it should be enough to cause so much noise.

Osinachi and I puzzlingly looked at ourselves. I suppose that we were both wondering what was happening in the sitting room to have warranted the noise.

"I think we need to check it out" I said to Osinachi who nodded in agreement

Osinachi was the one who first rushed into the house before I smilingly followed suit.

On reaching the sitting room, Lo and behold, we saw our almighty Uncle Okafor seriously arguing with mama. My smile of earlier ceased almost immediately!

Uncle Okafor was calling mama many despicable names that I couldn't even fathom where it was coming from. Mama is not even shaken and was equally returning back the same energy of rash verbal abμse.

Honestly, the names that they were calling each other were becoming too terrible that my ears couldn't bear it any longer!

"Uncle Okafor what exactly are you doing here....? Mama what is happening and what's the argument about...?" I asked them while trying as much as possible to keep calm

"Don't mind this abominable pervert man! My God is going to punish him for me. Is it by force to get married to my husband's brother...? Eh Kasaramma tell me" Mama asked me rhetorically and with anger vividly showing on her face

I didn't utter a word of response because I didn't know what to say and so Osinachi involuntarily answered mama on my behalf

"Uncle Okafor wants to marry you Mama....? Why...? I mean he has a wife already which is Aunty Ebube and she doesn't even like us" Osinachi said to mama who replied back

"Exactly! Just see me see problem oh. So Osinachi because I lost my husband in my prime....it means that I have to accept any nonsense that is being thrown at me....?"

"Nkiru is it me that you are referring to as nonsense....? It is now that I know you are a dullard. Foolish woman! So because I have  decided to pity you and relieve you of your longtime title as an unmarried widow....you are insulting me....? A whole Mazi Okafor!" Uncle Okafor continued ranting on

I turned to look at the shameless man who calls himself a chieftain man but doesn't act like one. He is a very selfish human being!

"Mazi Okafor my left foot! So uncle Okafor you really have no shame in this life...do you...?" Osinachi asked as she looked at uncle Okafor in disdain and hissed loudly

I chuckled aloud at Osinachi's words and felt deeply satisfied at how she responded to Uncle Okafor. Infact, with this behavior of his, I believe that he deserves more insolent words than what Osinachi told him.

"Kasarachi so you are simply standing there without calling your family to order....? You're even laughing at how your sister and mother are insulting me right...? It's okay!" Uncle Okafor said obviously boiling in fury

I have been quiet all this while but since he has fully called me into their quarrel, I suppose it is about time I speak up and put this my senseless uncle in his rightful place.

"Uncle Okafor you know what....? Osinachi and my mother are a hundred percent correct in all they've said. You are truly very shameless and full of nonsense! Let me even ask you this simple question...have you looked at yourself in the mirror lately....?"

"What do you mean by that....? What's wrong with myself....?" Uncle Okafor asked as he was self-consciously looking at himself

"I'm sorry to say this uncle Okafor but you are looking like an abandoned property. That's why it's really not surprising for my mother to see you as leftover crumbs! Please leave my beautiful mother alone and crawl back to your hateful wife aunty Ebube....because it is very very very obvious that the two of you fit each other perfectly!" I said confidently as I smirked in his face

"Kasarachi it is me you are referring to as an abandoned property....? Okay, don't worry we will soon know which out of the two of us is the abandoned property. Remember there's an idiom which says that whoever laughs last, laughs the best!"

I laughed hysterically after which I responded to him in a way that stung his ego

"You think that I do not know what you have been trying to do with my sister....? I know everything from beginning to the end uncle. You are trying to bring incest into our family" I said to uncle Okafor who suddenly went quiet, probably ashamed that his immoral act has been brought to the open.

"Incest ke....? Kasarachi what are you even saying...? You're sure you aren't drunk. Who wants to practice incest and with whom...?" Mama asked me but I ignored her and maintained my focus on uncle Okafor

"....but wait oh, what kind of a human being are you sir...? Only you wan practice incest with your niece and the same you wan marry your sister-in-law. Is it that you no dey shame for this for old age....?" I rudely asked him this question in pidgin language

"Incest with my child....? Ewo! Our whole community must hear this. Okafor so these are your plans for our family...?" Mama said lifting her hands to keep on her head

"You people are falsely accusing me but who cares. I will still take what rightly belongs to me. Afterall, it is a well known fact in the igbo culture that it is okay to inherit my brother's wife and his offsprings, so why should my own case be different...?" Uncle Okafor said flippantly and hissed

"My mother is never going to marry you so you can start now to start going to hell and we do not care!" I said as a matter of fact

"Who are you to have a say in this...? See eh...you people are my brother's children so technically, I own all of you and every property you have....including this house!" Uncle Okafor said boldly and this made me laugh again so loud in a bid to annoy him

I shook my head as I asked God questions in my heart as to why people are this wicked and filled with greed and covetousness....?

Imagine this man that five years back, he was crying on my phone about how sorry he was for treating me badly in the past and was even begging me to come back to the village if I wasn't happy at where I was.

Today uncle Okafor is the same person who is now blabbing rubbish from his mouth! This simply means that all what he was saying and doing before was pretense in order to win my trust and eat my money.

Well I have already seen and experienced enough in this life to conclude within me that human beings are not to be trusted at all. It is even more painful when it's coming from a close family member like uncle Okafor.

Honestly speaking, I am beginning to doubt that I will ever in this life be able to trust anyone again both outsiders and family!

"Which house did you say you own...? Look here uncle Okafor or whatever you call yourself. You see this house that I built with my sweat from my hard work in Canada....? You are not going to succeed with your plans to reap where you did not sow...." I fiercely challenged uncle Okafor

I briefly paused to catch my breath as I inhaled in and out before I continued talking

"If you like...you can go and call those conceited kinsmen who normally support all of your nonsense, I don't care. This time around it is my personal properties and not my father's own like in the case of the farmlands. Me I am telling you now oh that I am not going to let an opportunist like you who doesn't know how to earn in dollars to defraud me of my two houses. Never...!!!!"

Osinachi distracted me and cut my words short by jeering me on with her loud rants

"Yes! Yes! Yes! That's my elder sister talking in the house. Fire on sister Kasarachi!!!!"

As for mama, she was smiling widely at me without saying anything. I suppose she's probably feeling proud of me for my confidence and obvious evolution.

Well I know that I am truly her mother's daughter; bold, audacious, and always ready to protect my family or what rightfully belongs to me no matter what!

I continued challenging Uncle Okafor who from his facial expression and silence, he was intensely boiling inside of him

"Shey you thought that you were going to play a smart one on me by insisting on holding onto the papers until I return to Nigeria right....? Unfortunately for you uncle Okafor, my God in heaven was smarter. I'm actually so proud of mama for beating you to your deceitful games by collecting my two land documents from you!"

Uncle Okafor looked at me with fury-filled eyes and shaky hands which probably felt like strangling me for talking down on him.

"Kasarachi you think you've won against me Mazi Okafor...? Lies!!! I watched you grow after you were born and so you are just like a little fish to me. Be rest assured that I will laugh the best at the end. The battle line has just been drawn so better get prepared!"

I smirked as I looked at uncle Okafor eyeball to eyeball and told him plainly

"Of course uncle Okafor. I do not need a soothsayer to actually tell me that a battle line between a devil like you and angels like us has been drawn. So just go on to hell...." I said when Osinachi sharply completed my sentence for me by adding the last part

"And burn into millions of ashes!" Osinachi said sarcastically and bursted into laughter alongside mama who finally spoke out

"I think you've overstayed your welcome Okafor so leave my house and never in your miserable life come back here"

"I asked for your hand in marriage to help your life and here you are siding with your crazy daughters to order your future husband out of your house....eh Nkiru...?"

"God forbid you as my husband! Marry you my foot! After you've finished talking to me and my children condescendingly....? Common, will you get out of my house right now before I p0ur you hot water! You this shameless elderly man behaving like a toddler!" Mama blurted out authoritatively

Osinachi immediately walked to the front door and held it wide open for uncle Okafor indicating that he should start going faster!

Uncle Okafor was so angry such that before he completely walked out of our front door, he told me defiantly for the second time that the battle line has been just drawn.

I answered him again that I was personally awaiting his comeback because indeed the battle line is drawn. He left afterwards.

As for me, I had to ask myself a particular question after I left the sitting room and walked into my bedroom to rest my head.

The question I asked myself is; Kasarachi are you truly ready for what awaits you....?

I sighed deeply. Honestly, I really hate to admit the fact but this might probably turn out to be more like a survival for the fittest.

Meaning that as it currently stands now, I could either win or lose against my opponent; uncle Okafor who is desperately bent on taking everything away from me.

That's why I am begging you my Father Lord in heaven to please talk to me. Please tell me what lies ahead of me...? Please tell me, which one would likely be my fate....?
