KASARACHI
Kasarachi - Episode 36
(Tell it to God)
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
"What exactly have you done Osinachi that you need me to first make a promise not to blow things out of proportion....? I hope you are not pregnant out of wedlock....?" I said looking at her with an unsmiling face
"No I'm not pregnant out of wedlock Sister Kasarachi and I wasn't lying when I said that I am not sexually active yet. Besides this isn't really about me. It's about uncle Okafor....." Osinachi said calmly in defense
I didn't even let her finish talking when I cut into her words by plainly asking her
"Did you just say that it is about Uncle Okafor....? Osinachi what about him....?"
Osinachi hesitated for a while before responding to me
"I have never told mama this thing I am about to tell you because I know mama will likely blow it out of proportion. That's why I have been keeping it to myself to avoid incurring problems for myself and our entire family...." Osinachi said each word slowly and then she paused talking
She looked keenly at my face to observe my facial expression before continuing when she saw that I was still my composed self.
"....sister Kasarachi I do trust you and that's why I will tell you this secret of mine. But like I said earlier....you have to first promise me that you will not get too upset and that you would handle everything well. Sister Kasarachi will you...?" Osinachi asked me
I was losing my patience already but I knew that I had to try keeping calm if I must get genuine words out of Osinachi's mouth.
I wouldn't want to use an authoritative approach of telling her to start talking already instead of all these back and forth.
I know doing so will make me completely lose out on what she has to say which she claims is a secret.
That's why I stayed composed and smiled warmly as I urged Osinachi to go on with what she wants to say to me.
"Okay fine....I promise you that I will not blow things out of proportion and that I would try as much as possible to handle everything as maturely as it should be. So Osinachi start talking please" I said in agreement to her terms
Osinachi was quiet for about ten minutes and I must confess that I was fast loosing my ability to stay patient with her. Thank God she began talking before I lashed out.
"Mmmmh....the thing is that uncle Okafor has been disturbing me to have sex with him for about a year now!!!!!" Osinachi said with a small voice that was almost inaudible
My eyes bulged widely when I heard that and I began shaking my head in disbelief
"Jesus Christ! Uncle Okafor our father's brother....? You can't be serious Osinachi. This must be an expensive joke!!!" I shouted unable to believe what I had just heard
"I am not joking sister Kasarachi. Uncle Okafor does come here in the guise of seeing us on most weekdays when he's sure I will be back from school. Whenever mama goes out of sight to prepare him food in the kitchen...he will try pressing my br£asts" Osinachi said calmly with her head bent low
"Chi mooooo!!!!!! aruuu! Abomination of the highest order. Uncle Okafor wants to bring what is called incest into our family. Oh God, isn't this too much for me to bear....? Ah!" I shouted with my hands on my head
"Sister Kasarachi, for all of those times he asked me to sleep with him....I have turned him down. I didn't want to be a part of such an abominable act knowing that he is my uncle which makes him part of our family...." Osinachi said looking up at me and then paused talking to see my reaction.
I couldn't say anything as a response to her because I was still too shocked. I felt deeply hurt to hear that my own relative, uncle Okafor whom I believed was trustworthy could actually conceive such in his heart.
Osinachi continued when I remained quiet
"....my fear now is that since last month....uncle Okafor diverted from asking me for s£x and was telling me certain things that usually gets me very uncomfortable" Osinachi said looking at me with teary eyes
From her tears, I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me that it was something serious and honestly it scared me very much.
I mean it is bad enough that uncle wanted practicing incest with my sister who is his niece. I'm now wondering what the uncomfortable things he has been telling her could be. That man is a big time d£vil!
"Please Osinachi tell me....what are the uncomfortable things that uncle Okafor told you....?" I asked her persuasively
"Sister Kasarachi he said that he will render all of us homeless as punishment for me rejecting him and for you disobeying him in the past when he told you to marry Nonso" Osinachi said as she shrugged her shoulders
"Render all of us homeless when I have my own houses....? That man is a big joker!!!!!"
"I actually don't think he was joking Sister Kasarachi. From his tone, body language, and facial expression I knew for a fact that uncle Okafor was very serious about his words. He also told me plainly that he was going to make sure he takes everything away from us....which includes father's farmland, this house we live in, and your other house that is close to the roadside" Osinachi explained and she sighed heavily.
"Ah! I am finished!" I uttered as I paced around the yard in trepidation.
Truthfully, my heart was heavily burdened by the numerous thoughts that was rapidly running through my mind!!!!
I was also seriously burning with anger. At the same time, I began sweating profusely as I suddenly realized something vital.
Ah! The physical documents of my two houses are in his possession so it will be very possible for him to carry out his threats!
I only have the soft copies which he sent to me via a social media platform but the hardcopy ones are all with him.
That's why I am really praying that please my God, Let this not be another setback!
I had trusted uncle Okafor so much that I allowed him to handle everything about the paperwork for me since I wasn't in communication with mama as at the time he started the first house project.
And to be sincere, I think there's nothing much which could have been done in such a situation even if I was in communication with mama at that time.
Do you know why....?
It's because Mama is uneducated and not literate or vibrant as uncle Okafor so putting her in charge of such huge rigorous projects and paperwork wasn't even an option at all.
I know with mama handling the projects, it would have been another terrible story. Many people would have tried to take advantage of her ignorance to fraud her of money and that's what I wanted to avoid.
Back in Canada, when uncle Okafor apologized to me for his past wrongdoings, I eventually regained my trust in him again.
With his constant reassurance, I allowed him to handle the two building projects and all of its documentation. But to be more on the safer side, I told mama to watch him closely and send me feedback on how the building was going day by day.
As for me, I was following up through the pictures and videos he was sending to me. He also sent me the soft copy of the two lands he brought as well as the receipts for all the building materials that were procured during the building process.
The worst part which is getting me scared is that it is uncle Okafor's signature that is on this particular house paper and not mine.
As a result of my distance and the situation of everything at that time, uncle Okafor had to sign the first land document on my behalf but our agreed plan was for him to change it to mine whenever I come to Nigeria.
I did that thinking I could trust him completely but after all that Osinachi has just said about him, I am in serious doubt!
For a man to think of commiting incest with his sixteen year old niece shows how dark his heart is. I cannot take chances with him and I probably shouldn't have even trusted him with my belongings in the first place.
Well there's no time to cry over spill milk. I need to go to his house and get my house documents from him today.
I will also make sure to have him quickly change the name on the first land paper to my name in order to avoid stories that touches the heart!
Mama is the one who signed the document on my behalf for the second house so I don't think there will be any issue with that one.
I became more aware of my environment when Osinachi cleared her throat so as to get back my attention. She was still standing close to me and quietly looking at my face.
I'm sure in her mind, she is wondering why I was acting in a restless manner like I was doing and she had to ask me out of curiosity
"Sister Kasarachi what is going on....? You promised not to blow things out of proportion but I feel you are doing the exact opposite. See how you are sweating and pacing around. Is everything okay....?"
I doubt she will really understand even if I explained it to her and that's why I nodded in affirmation that everything is fine.
To avoid further questions from her, I simply told her that I was thinking of the best way I could handle the issue.
Osinachi wasn't really convinced and so she insisted I tell her the real situation of things.
"....are we going to actually lose everything as uncle Okafor told me....? Are we going to be homeless for real after tasting the good life....? You know I am no longer a small girl so please tell me the truth sister Kasarachi"
I sighed deeply as I contemplated if I should tell her the truth or I should keep shut.
Well I don't think it will do me any good to keep her in the dark as she seems to be mentally matured than most people of her age.
Moreover, I'm currently in a place in which I need all the support and ideas I can get and who knows, maybe Osinachi can help.
With that decided in my heart, I breathed heavily as I began explaining to Osinachi in simple terms so she could understand the stance of things.
"Osinachi as you already know....uncle Okafor was in charge of the building projects and the possession of the two land papers. It is his name that is on one of the documents and not mine. In actual sense, this means it will be very possible to render us homeless if we don't act very fast. As for father's farmland, it is not possible for him to take that from us because it was ruled to us years ago" I said without mincing words
"Oh, the document part is why you are so worried....? Sister Kasarachi you don't have to worry about the house issue. Mama didn't and still doesn't really trust uncle Okafor no matter how often he acts like he is a changed man...." Osinachi said smiling and paused to observe my countenance
I was elated when I heard the last sentence and I became interested to hear the rest. I urged her to continue talking and she did
"....so because of that, mama refused to allow him to keep the house documents no matter how much he insisted on holding onto it for you to return. Despite how the other kinsmen tried to advise her otherwise....Mama made sure to collect the two land papers from him immediately after your second house was completed!" Osinachi said excitedly
I smiled feeling proud of mama although my fears are yet to be completely erased.
I wonder why mama didn't tell me about all of this despite the numerous times we talked on phone. Well I want to believe she had her reasons for keeping it away from me.
"Uncle Okafor released the documents just like that to mama without arguing much and he hasn't raised that topic again since last year....?" I asked inquisitively
"Yes nau. Sister Kasarachi you know how extra tough mama can be when she's out to protect her children's interest! I'm sure she acted in the lioness's way and uncle Okafor had no choice than to release them to her. It's in her possession now as we speak!" Osinachi said with her face full of smiles but my own smile had gradually ceased.
I was quiet as I tried to analyze everything in my head and fear was slowly creeping in.
There's surely something fishy going on and whatever it is, I believe I will get to find out very soon.
Osinachi was looking at me feeling confused and probably inquisitive as to why I didn't seem so excited anymore.
"Hmmm. It's quite unusual for uncle Okafor to stay low for so long if he truly had bad intentions towards us. Except he has other plans he's been secretly implementing and simply waiting for the right time to strike!" I spoke out my observation and Osinachi kept quiet to think about my words carefully.
I heaved deeply as I inwardly prayed in my heart to my father in heaven. Oh Lord, I hope it is what I can actually handle!
I don't know why I feel like something doesn't seem right about the whole thing.
I just have this unsettling feeling within me and somehow my mind keeps telling me that trouble is lurking around the corner....
