KASARACHI

Kasarachi - Episode 20

(Tell it to God)

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

I was standing over the kitchen sink and washing the heap of dirty plates when I heard Aunty Tochi calling out my name from outside the window.

I heaved heavily as I began to wonder what the problem could be or on what errands she has to send me this time.

Since last week I haven't had a moment of peace and rest. If the issue is not emanating from Aunty Tochi, then it will come from her roommate Aunty Brenda. I'm so tired!

It was more like they were bent on frustrating my life especially Aunty Tochi. She was always cool towards me before but after that incident in the kitchen which happened last week, she has changed completely from the woman I used to know.

Her change in behavior all started after that day she caught both Aunty Brenda and I in the kitchen. I agree that I was scared of what her reaction would be but I still wanted to tell her the truth about what her lover was trying to do with me.

Before I could even make up my mind to talk, Aunty Brenda blurted out a lie on how she came to drop her dirty plate in the sink and didn't know I was in the kitchen because it was very dark.

She said it was the noise that came from the plate falling from my hands that made her realize that someone was in there. And she had to come closer to check who it was.

Aunty Brenda made it seem like she was very surprised to have seen me there and was wondering why I am eating in the darkness instead of turning on the light.

I had no choice but to backup her story. I told Aunty Tochi that the shock of hearing something being dropped in the sink made me mistakenly kick the plate and it fell.

Aunty Tochi didn't say anything as a response after we finished telling her the fabricated story. She just continued looking at me and Aunty Brenda suspiciously.

From her facial expression, I could tell she didn't believe our story. I'm guessing she figured the whole explanation was bland.

She eventually walked out of the kitchen that day after telling Aunty Brenda to join her in bed immediately.

From that day till date, she changed negatively towards me and it hurts that she wasn't acting as loving as she used to be.

Nowadays she is no longer friendly or caring towards me instead she is always looking for ways to frustrate or to send me on one incessant errands or the other.

To be sincere I am seriously getting tired of everything and I am hanging on my last thread of being tolerant with their excesses.

"Yes Aunty Tochi I'm coming" I answered her call and hurriedly rinsed my hands. After doing that, I walked outside through the kitchen's backdoor to meet Aunty Tochi.

I met her sitting on a bench with Aunty Brenda and enjoying the evening breeze. There were seven of her neighbors sitting outside too although a bit far from them.

"Madam what kept you for that long abi you've added deafness to the list of your problems...? Eh Kasarachi...?" Aunty Tochi said rudely whilst staring at me

Aunty Brenda who was sitting beside her couldn't help laughing out loud and she sarcastically chipped into the conversation

"I will not even be surprised if she's actually deaf. Babe it seems like many problems run in her family or haven't you noticed....?"

I was tempted to reply her but I controlled myself. I intentionally decided to ignore the insensitive comment from Aunty Brenda and to focus on Aunty Tochi who called me.

"I'm sorry Aunty Tochi. I was washing plates and didn't hear you on time. I'm here now.... please why did you call me Aunty...?" I said feigning a smile on my face

"Are you not going to the market today...?" Aunty Tochi asked sternly looking at me

I was looking at her in amusement wondering if she's now suffering from amnesia. Doesn't she remember that I haven't gone to the market for the past two days now because our stock is finished....?

"Aunty have you forgotten that our market things has finished....? You told me to wait until Friday which is tomorrow....so you can give me the money that I will buy new fruits and restock for sale"

"That's why I called you here. Kasarachi I want you to borrow me ten thousand naira from that your money you got from me. Don't worry I'll pay you back by next week" Aunty Tochi said flippantly and with the way she rolled her eyes at me, I could tell she wasn't serious about paying me back.

Well unfortunately for her, I am not even with the money anymore.

Yes I had indeed gotten my fifteen thousand naira from her last weekend, but I handed it over to Aunty Brenda so she will allow me to stay in the house and have peace of mind.

Thank God Aunty Brenda kept to her promise and she stopped asking Aunty Tochi to choose between us who will pack and leave the house.

The only annoying thing is that occasionally whenever she sees me, she blows kisses into the air or winks at me. Sometimes she will swiftly and cunningly press my breasts or bumbum before I can beat her hands off.

I wasn't happy with what she was doing but what could I do...? I had to keep quiet and endure for peace to reign in the house.

I sighed deeply as I turned to look at Aunty Tochi and I heaved heavily as I gave a response to her previous request...

"I'm sorry to disappoint you but I don't have the money with me anymore Aunty Tochi. I used it to do something last week!"

Aunty Tochi's face deepened in a frown probably thinking I was lying to her in order to avoid giving her the money.

"If you don't want to borrow me....simply say so instead of lying to my face Kasarachi. I didn't know you were this stingy until today. It means Brenda was right about you all along!" Aunty Tochi blurted out angrily

The neighbors sitting outside turned to look at us and bursted into laughter when they heard Aunty Tochi call me a stingy person.

Aunty Brenda was chuckling while pressing her phone and I swallowed the saliva in my throat since I was feeling very embarrassed.

"....Kasarachi you should always be thanking me for bringing you out to enjoy what township feels like. See how you're wearing fancy clothes. Tell yourself the truth Kasarachi...this beautiful dress on your body can you afford to buy it for yourself...?" Aunty Tochi said abusively as she used her eyes to size me up as though I was nothing!

Her words are so toxic that it was piercing my heart. I'm just praying that I don't get emotionally damaged staying in this place.

Aunty Brenda dropped her phone and said to Aunty Tochi right there in my presence

"Babe I told you that this girl is matured and fine enough to start learning how to make money in this Lagos. Just permit me to introduce her to one of my sugar mummies that will embarrass us with money....instead of her to stay in this house and be eating our food without contributing anything!"

My eyes bulged out because I understood what she meant and Aunty Tochi's reply worsened the whole thing when she said...

"I think you are right Brenda. Enough is enough! it's about time she starts being useful to us already. I thought she was going to be a good girl but I was proven wrong!"

"I'm sorry Aunty Tochi. I'm not stingy. I swear to God if you had told me on time...I would have kept the money for you" I said trying to stop myself from breaking down

Aunty Tochi looked at me for a few seconds as though contemplating something on her mind and then she dropped the bombshell...

"Go and get yourself ready Kasarachi. Somebody will be coming to pick you up by 7pm tonight" Aunty Tochi said nonchalantly without sparing me another glance and Aunty Brenda smiled probably excited.

I was skeptical about moving from there as many puzzling questions were on my mind. Is she truly going to give me out to a sugar mummy or whatever Brenda suggested...?

As though she had just read my mind, Aunty Tochi chuckled lightly and she said to me contrary to what Aunty Brenda expected

"...don't worry yourself Kasarachi...it has nothing to do with what Brenda suggested. I do not want to expose you to such a thing at your age" Aunty Tochi said smiling at me and it got Aunty Brenda very displeased

I took a deep breath and then exhaled as I shrugged my shoulders in utter surrender

"It's okay Aunty Tochi. I will take you by your words" I said gently and Aunty Tochi's smile became wider. It got me wondering if the smile is for a genuine reason or not.

Aunty Brenda was frowning upon hearing Aunty Tochi say that it has nothing to do with her suggestion. I understand her dislike for me stems from the fact that I kept turning down her s*xual advances.

I suppose that's why she wants to break my defenses by making such a suggestion.
Aunty Tochi seems to be frustrating her efforts or maybe Aunty Tochi is just pretending to, I don't know yet.

And since I am not in Aunty Tochi's heart to tell what's her plan, I guess I will have to wait until 7pm to find out so Lord help me....

I whispered a short prayer as I turned my back and walked inside the house so I could get myself dressed in preparation for 7pm.

I'm scared for my life and safety because I don't trust Aunty Tochi totally!

I just can't guess what Aunty Tochi is likely up to, and I am really hoping deep within my heart that it won't be for bad...
