I walked in and she was reading a nighttime story book to Marvel and Melissa.
She didn't bother looking up even after Marvel has exclaimed "Daddy" immediately I stepped in.
I tickled Marvel a little, gently touched Melissa's cheek before and she giggled happily
turning to my wife, I heaved loudly before saying
"Can we talk... please?
"Talk about what?
"...As you can see I'm very busy with the kids. I'm getting them ready for bed..."
"Their nanny can do that, I really want to speak to you.."
"Not tonight, I'm very busy and will need rest whenever I'm done here. Beside their nanny is their nanny.. I'm their Mom, there's a big difference between mother and a nanny..."
"Alright..."
I sat on the bed side with the kids
"What are you doing? She asked looking at me fully for the first time since I stepped into the room
"I'm not going anywhere until you listen to what I have to say..."
"What else do you want to talk apart from what you've always been saying all this long while. I'm not interested Samson and I will really appreciate if you leave me alone..."
",I know you're mad at me, I deserve it. But don't vent out in front of the kids. They should go to their room and the nanny will attend to whatever they need for bedtime..."
I was still talking when Marvel stood and took Melissa by hand as they try to walk away.
I can't describe how joyous I was, Marvel acts beyond her age which made me want to sometimes believe that my Mom is probably right on Salome coming back as Marvel.
Such a smart little girl
She surprises me, I must confess.
"You don't have to leave because of your dad, he will be leaving instead, I haven't finished reading the story yet.."
Marvel ignored her, she collected the story book from her Mom and walked away with Melissa, closing the door firmly behind her
I guess she's taking the book to their nanny to finish up.
"Wonderful! you're happy now right? The kids left because of you I guess you're happy..."
I stood and made attempts to touch her but she went straight to the door asking me to leave or she will.
"Edna, how long are we going to continue like this? Will you ever be able to forgive me. What do I have to do to be able to earn your forgiveness...?
"Start by leaving my room first. I don't want you here.. please leave.
"I'm not going anywhere Edna. I'm sorry but I won't be obeying your rules tonight..."
"Fine, then I will leave. You can have the room as you please..."
She was about opening the door and walking out when I rushed and held the door firmly
Stopping her from leaving
"...What's your problem Samson?
"You're my problem Edna..."
She try to aggressively open it but I held the door.
"You're just unbelievable.."
She said disappointedly before walking away.
"...I want to go have my bath and retire for the night. I'm asking you to kindly leave my room Samson.."
"I'm not going anywhere.."
"Can you stop being selfish for once in your life and listen. I said I'm tired and need to refresh and go to bed..." She said the last part with a high tone of voice.
"You're my wife Edna, stop treating me like a stranger. I'm your husband..."
She looks up at me and scoff aloud.
"...Are you not my wife, the love of my life, the woman of my dreams...? I asked taking a careful step close
"Stop deceiving yourself Samson, none of this things works on me. I have forgotten that I'm ever married. As far as I'm concerned... I don't know your position in my life.."
"... I really don't want to engage in this your norm conversation.."
"How long will you keep punishing me. Edna, I have begged and pleaded for over a year now. It's already exhausting. I know I hurt you beyond healing, I'm deeply sorry honey. For the sake of the kids, please... I'm begging you right back on my knees again to find a place in your heart and forgive me..."
I went straight on my knees
"... different family members from my side and yours has begged you, I have sent the kids to plead to you on my behalf. I even sent Marvel but..."
She suddenly interrupted
"What were you thinking involving the kids in your mess and you think they are gateway to restitution.."
"They understand what's going on and they not happy Edna. Please consider them atleast... please honey..."
"I have heard you. You can get up now and leave, knelling all the time doesn't solve anything. I need to go to bed, I have 8am duty call at work tomorrow and I need to go to bed..."
I got up from my knees and stood but didn't make attempt to leave.
"You've become too harden and resentful, you've changed so much and no longer the woman I used to know.. I'm serious..."
"...Do you håtë me this much and don't want to have anything to do with me? I have quit drinking, I have quit spending most of my time out. I have dedicated this past year to prove to you that I'm deeply sorry. Stop hurting me Edna, Marvel is found and..."
She looks at me and said ângrily
."So you're playing the victim card on me, you can never change Samson..."
"...I told you initially that I'm not interested in this conversation but you kept pushing me into it..
"...hold on let me ask you, Who's hurting who, who's the victim in all this, who brought down hell into our lives. Who did the unimaginable thing by going to three different hospitals and doing three different DNA on Marvel, you actually believed that I was having affair and it resulted to Marvel. who almost ruined my life after you made our little girl disappear...
"...yes, Marvel is here all thanks to God for bringing my daughter back to me. But that doesn't change the way I feel about you. All the wound and pain you caused me, although healed but the scars remain
"... I need to go to bed please. I don't want to be reminded of things I try to forget.."
I nodded quietly with my head bent.
I sat hard on the bed
I don't know what else to do or say.
I just sat there staring at my palm.
She asked me to leave. It sounded more like she was begging me to get lost.
"I miss you Edna, I miss you so much...I can't live like this. I can't.."
I was shocked when she chuckled and said
"You miss a bedmate, be specific and say that you miss my body not me. Quit deceiving yourself..."
"You're right, I miss your body, your sweet smell, your liveliness, your laughter and peaceful presence, I miss our intimate moments, I miss you as a friend, my companion, I miss the mother to my lovely kids and I miss my dearest wife. Edna...I miss you very much..."
"...I can never stop loving you. You're my soulmate Edna.."
"Please leave.." she said more like a warning this time.
"I don't want to, please...I want to stay here with you and I don't want you to leave either. We can talk, argue all night. You can call me any unprinted names, beat me up as you want but know this one thing, where you are is exactly where I wish to be.."
"Touche, you need more catchy lines to get me because all this your act isn't aligning with my emotions right now.."
I chuckled aloud. She was really trying hard to dismiss me but not today.
I try to use a different line, hoping it will work and she will finally listen
"Jonah said he will be playing in his school football, the fifth edition of their school soccer team play is coming up next week, he needs us there. This will be his second time playing in the school big team..."
"It's actually third time, not second.." she suddenly said interrupting
"Sorry... what..? I asked confused on what exactly she meant.
"This will be Jonah's third edition in the school soccer game, he's in the o- balon club. And it's the school fourth time of hosting soccer game. Jonah's o-balon club has won maximum of eight times straight. The shark team used to beat them in the past but not anymore. They've been winning back to back and Jonah was in the junior club but was promoted to senior club last school term. The next winning team after Jonah's club is the zigzags. And Yes, I will be present during the game to encourage my son..."
My jaw dropped as Edna was giving details of this things that I'm not even aware of.
She shocked me further as she continued
"... Zena wants to join the junior cheerleading girls group in school, she's in yellow house and wants to migrate to lemon because lemon house are more serious with their rehearsal practice and doing better than the unserious green house she is in. I asked her what's the requirements, she listed few things but most importantly she will be present during their rehearsals. Zena grades has really improved ever since she entered this new term, and that's since Marvel returned and I'm very proud of her.."
"Ooh..! I exclaimed aloud
"....I never knew any of this. You know way more than me, the kids must be very proud to have you as Mom just like I feel really blessed having you as my wife..." I said calculative and meant every word
She didn't reply.
"...I want to go and renew my vow to you. I failed God and failed you too Edna, I want to go before God and make another vow and this time I will be careful not to fail because breaking my vow is not just disappointing you but i will be disappointing God too and i do not want that..."
She sighed
"That will be good..."
"Do you mind coming with me... please honey. Let's go together and renew our vows and if you don't feel like renewing, it's okay, but I will be so happy to have you beside me.."
"No problem.."
I was shocked that she agreed without another stress at all
"You agree to come with me... for real? I said to be certain I heard her right.
"Yeah, I will come.." she heaved as she came and sat on the bed leaving space between us.
"Thank you.. thank you so much for agreeing to do this. I really wasn't expecting you to say yes. I had it in mind for months but afraid to ask..."
"I mean why not, it will be a new start for us. I'm the happiest woman alive right now, having my Marvel back means the world to me. So yeah, it will indeed be a beautiful start for us..."
She adding "us" made me want to draw her close and kiss her like I have never done but I try to control my emotions and decided to ask instead
"Can I atleast hold you a little and maybe kiss you... please..?
Asking my wife for this simple things sound weird
Before the calamity struck, I used to have my wife anytime I please, she submits herself willingly except when she's tired.
Edna was not only submissive but also cares deeply for me
I hate myself for turning a good and loving woman into a difficult, unbending, unforgiven and hateful.
"No..." She replied outrightly.
I bit hard on my lips feeling seriously dejected.
"Okay.." that's all I could say as I turned my focus at nothing in particular.
"Can you leave now. You've succeeded in talking to me, we've had that conversation that you've always wanted. I need my rest now..."
"Sure...uhmm. thank you..." I managed to say as I stood and head to the door
I paused at the door and asked.
"... Ed, can I atleast know when I will be able to hold you. I mean when we can atleast be together as husband and wife. Please tell me..."
"That will be after renewing the vow..."
I nodded but still stood, she wanted to say something else
"... I'm just getting to know you again Sam.."
She called me Sam for the first time in a year and it feels really good.
"... right now, let's assume we're dating, I'm studying your new personality and I'm also trying to let go of the old me. Getting intimate will be eating an unripe fruit, you won't enjoy it. It's just little time for the fruit to be ready, exercise little patients Mr Samson..."
I bursted into laughter.
I don't know what was so funny but I was laughing uncontrollably.
She chuckled a little
"Right. I will be patient ma'am. Anytime you're ready, I will be ready too.." I finally said after the long laugh which was a great relieve.
"I will also move into our matrimonial bedroom after the vow is renewed. She said with a light smile.
"Thank you...so much, I love you Ed..."
She nodded and said "don't forget to pay back the money you owe me. I'm not talking about the general upkeep and feeding, I mean the one you borrowed to pay those scâmmérs. It's no longer six hundred thousand, it's now a million. I added little percentage..." She jokingly said
I began to laugh again at her sense of humour
The sad and serious atmosphere has shifted into a lighter one.
"Yes ma'am, I will pay it all and even more. You deserve everything good honey, I got my job back so paying my debt won't be an issue anymore. You've financially uphold the entire family single handedly for this difficult period. You've fuelled my car and cared for my needs despite we weren't perfectly in a good term. I know there's still a soft, loving woman in there. I look forward to having you back fully..."
She nodded quietly
"Goodnight Sam..."
"Goodnight Ed.."
I replied back before opening the door and walking out.
Within two weeks we renewed our vow
I wanted it to be within a week but the pastor said they have other programmes on the schedule
Few family and friends gathered as we took our vows again
There was refreshments for everyone
Edna moved in to our matrimonial bedroom like she promised and the days and weeks that follows was like a honeymoon for us.
I pampered her like a new born baby
After everything I went through to have my wife back, God help me I will never mess it up again.
My little girl, Marvel was the ring bearer during our vow renewal
I'm happy to have my baby girl here,
I cherish every moment with her.
Marvel may be autistic but she's a smart girl, that's what made her unique and special.
I tidy up and clean her mess gladly without waiting for anyone to do it.
I enjoy taking her on a walk, sharing fun filled moments.
Melissa comes too whenever she's around.
She wasn't coming often again, Rosemary said Marvel has really done a great job in Melissa life.
She was improving greatly and that makes her happy.
I'm happy for them too
Zena always comes along anytime I'm going on a walk with Marvel
Zena been acting more matured than I expect.
Marvel is no longer holding back like she used to do with Zena
She agrees to play with Zena anytime she asks.
They share things and even go as far as twining with their wears.
I'm proud of my special daughter.
I'm blessed to have this awesome family
My wife and children are my greatest blessing
I will never take any of them for granted ever, especially not my little angel, Marvel.
Every moment with her is precious to me,
I learnt my lesson in a hard way.
Never again.
