I shocked as I looked at what stared before my face
I checked it again to be certain that I was seeing clearly
it was evidently right there.
The handwriting was bold and clear there was no doubt to what was before me.
"I said it...I knew it...I just knew it.." I quietly exclaimed to myself
"...I knew it..." I repeated to the quiet room.
I don't know if I should be happy and rejoice or I should be angry and disappointed.
"...So of a truth, she's not my child? Oh wow... this is unbelievable.."
Strange ideas began to form in head
"..No, this can't be, Edna had extra marital affair.. really! She cheated... opened her leg for another man to climb and then paint her sins on me..."
"...why will she do this to me. All I did was to love and cared for her. I have never deliberately hürt her...why... just why will Edna do this to me..."
I couldn't hold it all in anymore, I screamed her name
"Edna... Edna..."
She answered immediately from kitchen, and within second she rushed down.
"What happened...why are you shouting my name like that. It's Marvel okay? Did something happened... what did I do..?
She asked while looking around the room.
She rushed to Marvel who sat quietly on the bed
Marvel sat with only pant and a round neck top staring at nothing as she wore a straight face.
Marvel cried out earlier as I took her bl00d for sample, but she immediately stopped crying as I gently massage the spot
I looked towards her, she immediately looked up at me and began to smile.
She giggled happily
If she knows what was about to happen, I'm sure she won't be smiling.
Edna had this worried face as she kept asking me what's the problem.
On a good day, i call her Ed, but whenever I'm angry I refer to her with her full name
Today wasn't a good day and she's not even safe because I'm not going to let go of this case until she explains to me why she cheated on me with another man
Not only that, she got pregnant during her secret affair and decided to hang it on me
It was only God that wanted to expose her because i would never had found out of her atr0cities
I knew it, right from the moment I realised that Marvel had issues I knew she wasn't mine
There's nobody in my family with such disability
I knew it right from time that Marvel isn't mine and my instinct is never wrong
"..what is the problem honey..what happened. Did Marvel fall or do something, or what exactly happened..."
I know deep down her conscience is pricking her.
I went close to Marvel, raise her up from the bed before presenting the guilt Edna
"What is this? What in God's name is this Edna..."
I pointed straight at it.
She moved closer to what I was pointing at and stared at in confusion
"I don't understand, what exactly are you showing me...what is what?
I didn't reply because she can obviously see what I was pointing at.
She can't play with my intelligence, her little secret is finally exposed.
"...wait, do you mean this...?
She touched the spot
"Yes, exactly that. What is that Edna...?
She chuckled before turning to me
"That's a birth mark, Marvel had that birth Mark right from when she was born. I'm surprised that you're just noticing..."
"...well, I know you hardly gets close to her or pay attention to her body but this Marvel's birthmark is the same type you got. It's on the same body spot with yours...."
I became speechless
Edna began to laugh
"... hahahaha, it's that why you were screaming my name. I almost fell while running down here. I thought something bâd happened. Check the back of your waist, this exact birthmark on Marvel's waist is there.."
I knew I had a birthmark on my waist, close to my buttock but I have totally forgotten
It's not something I see everyday and because of that I no longer remember having it until now.
"...I thought you were done dressing her up, what exactly were you doing since. I will soon be leaving. She needs to be ready before Julie arrives..."
When I walked into the room earlier and saw that my wife just finished bathing Marvel and was about dressing her, she was rushing and complaining of running late.
On a normal day I wouldn't have care to help but I told her to go do other things so that I can dress Marvel up
She was surprised and asked me if I was sure, I assured her.
She didn't know that I have my hidden plan, I was looking for evidence to show that Marvel wasn't mine.
I manages to to draw out bløød with a syringe
Marvel began to cry.
My wife shouted from the kitchen asking why she was crying
I told her that Marvel was probably missing her, she should hurry up.
Marvel is used to her and doesn't want another person attending to her. I informed my wife
"Marvel baby, my princess I will be with you shortly..." My wife said while still in the kitchen.
I also got some hair and saliva in a small plastic bottle which I quickly hide in my pocket.
I wanted to make sure there's enough evidence.
If by chance the hair or saliva fails, atleast the bløød won't fail
No excuse, an absolute test to determine who's Marvel's dad.
Everything about her was suspicious
I looked around her body, her hair, nails, eyes and ear until I spotted the strange birth mark on her back, below her waist.
That was the evident I needed
Well, unknown to me that I had similar birthmark.
"..what was your fear, why are you surprised or alarmed at the mark..." Edna asked me suspiciously.
"Nothing...I..I thought she fell and injured there. I mistake the mark for a scar. You understand her condition, you should know that she shouldn't be left unguarded so that she doesn't injure herself. I know Julie, her caregiver is not always here, so whatever we can do to protect her from danger we have to do it..."
I was surprised at the scattered lies flowing out of my mouth
I had to defend myself anyway.
Edna must not find out my thoughts untill I do a proper DNA
And it won't pass today.
I'm going right away to do the DNA hospital
No delay. I must find out the truth today.
"I'm surprised and also pleased hearing you say this honey. I thought you didn't actually care about Marvel, maybe I misjudged you. She actually looks so much like you... can't you see?
"Really, I'm not sure and I never noticed.." I said dismissively.
I don't want her pointing out any other thing
I started leaving the room
"Daddy.. daddy.." Marvel called as she mumbled some inaudible words that I didn't quiet grabbed
She raised her hand in the air, signaling me to come añd lift her up
I moved closer to her and pat her hand gently and told her that I was coming.
Marvel uttered the word "please stay.." it was very clear and I heard it but I pretended like I couldn't comprehend and started walking away.
"You can't leave now, you promised to help in getting her ready. Today supposed to be your work off day, you said it yourself. I still have unfinished stuff in the kitchen. You promised to get her dressed up before Julie arrives..."
"I know Ed, I just remembered that I had an appointment in the office by 11 pm. I'm sorry, maybe I will create time so that we can all have a quality time together as family. I'm sorry darling..."
I apologized, and she nodded quietly.
I quickly left the house.
I'm going straight to the doctor with the samples from Marvel
I met Julie as I was driving out.
She was just arriving.
She greeted and I waved before driving away
Julie is a young woman, she was recommended to us from a special home centre
She attends to children with special needs and she's good with her job
Julie comes during week days but not on weekends since the family is mostly home during the weekend.
Julie comes daily, mostly whenever my wife is work, and she leaves immediately my wife arrives
Julie also serves as Marvel's home tutor. She sometimes takes her for a walk around the estate
Edna is not always comfortable with the idea
She just wanted to be the only one taking Marvel for a walk since I can't do it
She doesn't fully trust Julie taking Marvel out
I told her to allow Julie do her job to the fullest
It sometimes gets me wondering like what exactly is she afraid of
Who will be stμpid enough to k1dnap a child like Marvel.
It's actually Zena I'm protective with not Marvel
Anybody that wants Marvel might as well have her, they will be doing me a great favour but I'm not sure any reasonable person will dare want her.
I don't want it to seem publicly like Marvel is a burden but deep down she is to me.
If Edna is on a night shift at the hospital where she works Julie stays for the night
Edna told me to atleast watch Marvel during her night shift, since all that's required is checking up and carrying her to the bathroom during the night so that she doesn't mess up the bed with urine
I blatantly refused because I wasn't cut out for such stress
I said I was going to pay Julie extra to take over during my wife's night shift.
Money wasn't a problem
I know I usually check on Zena mostly during the night, I just couldn't stand the whole drama with Marvel.
Once I start, my wife will start making it a point of duty for me to constantly do it in her absence or whenever she's tired.
The whole thing is too much
I wish there's something to hold on as evidence that Marvel isn't mine.
Well, the answer is right with me
