DADDY'S LITTLE GIRL

Daddy's Little Girl - Episode 3

 Amah's Heart

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Sitting at the open bar with Martin, I inhale deeply as the fresh breeze welcomed the cool evening

Martin wave for the bartender to bring more drinks

I was in my second bottle, still struggling to finish up

As I checked the time, it was already 8:30pm

Zena should be in bed, I need to check her because she hardly sleep without seeing me

Immediately I come in and say goodnight to her, that's the only time she relaxed to sleep.

I will probably miss saying goodnight tonight because I don't intend to go home early until probably 10pm when everyone is asleep.

"Are you okay man? You seem absent minded.." Martin suddenly asked

"Yes, sure... I'm alright.." I replied as i gulp down my drink.

"This days you're hardly seen, office work must be cåzy. .."

I guess Martin wanted me to open up on whatever that's weighing heavily on my chest

After a second thought I decided to open up

Martin is my long time friend

Him and his wife and kids live not too far from my house and we used to hang out often before life gets seriously busy for me.

Maybe talking about the things that trouble me will help relive the stress.

"It's not easy Martin, work, family and life in general. It's a tough call but we have to answer..."

"I know right, it's indeed tough. I refused to let the problem of this world weigh me down. My family gives me satisfaction, atleast no matter how tough it gets I go home and my peace return..."

I took a sip of my drink

"I wish it the same with me. This days I go home and it's as if another war awaits me.."

"Why, Edna is a cheerful and never tr0μblesome. Where's the war coming from?

"My wife can be sweet but I don't know what exactly went wrong with her. She accuses me of being partial with our two daughters...."

Martin looks up from his drink

"How? I know you love your kids very much. Jonah your son is a young smart champ. Zena the pretty outspoken one, takes after your wife, Marvel looks so much like you when you're a kid..."

I quickly interrupted

"That's pure lie, Zena is the only one that takes after me. She's just like my carbon copy. Maybe you need glasses to see well, Zena is the only one that resembles me in every way and I don't joke with her, she's eloquent, pretty, intelligent, outspoken and relates every of her wins and failure with me than she does with her mom, Jonah is the man of the house after me and he's doing a fantastic job. while Marvel takes after her mother..."

Martin began to laugh

"Edna is right, you're indeed a partial Dad. You've obviously shared your love among your kids and you've a favourite. Out of 100 percent, Jonah gets 30, Zena gets 60 while Marvel is left with 10 percent. You can go ahead and prove me wrong..."

Martin analysing my love for my kids makes me question myself if its all that obvious that I love Zena more.

I needed to defend myself so that Martin won't feel like I'm a bad father

"You're very wrong Martin, I sincerely love my kids equally, my love for them is equal and not shared or whatever..."

Martin chuckled loudly as I kept talking to sound convincing.

"You know what, let's go for another family camp out next weekend. Maybe what your family need is some breath of fresh air and new environment. You can prove to Edna that you're far from what she thinks.."

"No, I'm not sure I will have the time to camp out again. I'm very busy this days.

"No problem man, it's just a suggestion. The last time we had a family camp out was when your daughter Marvel was two years and my daughter Joan was just  9 months while Fred my son was around three years. I have taken my family on six camp out. It helps us see the world differently and appreciate nature more. It also builds bond. It's just once in a year thing, although we went twice last year to different locations. My wife and kids looks forward to every year camp out..."

"I'm aware Martin, my present predicament... it's taken over my entire life..."

"Why do you say that Sam. What predicament... are you in any sort of trouble that I'm not aware..?

"Having a special need child isn't it problem enough? I asked Martin who looked at me unknowingly what to reply.

"Well, I wouldn't see it as a problem, i will rather accept my reality. Marvel didn't choose to be born, she didn't choose to be a child with autism..."

"Then who choose her to become part of me.. don't get me wrong. I care greatly about my child but that reality that you're talking about, it is very hard to live with. You won't understand the struggles because you're not in my shoe.."

"...I have so many questions, why did God choose us to be her parents? I mean Edna is great in handling the whole situation for over six years now but I'm not. I'm trying Martin.... I'm trying. God shouldn't have done this to me, I doubt if he really cares.."

"...I was so happy as I looked forward to welcoming my Marvellous baby, there was a minor complication during the pregnancy, we had our challenges but I never ever envision that it will turn out this way. I deeply want to ascertain my  biological relationship with Marvel, my mind is telling me that I'm not her biological father. I don't have anyone with disability in my family, my parents and siblings...none of them. I had a twin but she d¡ed early years. Nothing related to disability in my gene, So why me...?

"...Edna had none too, why will a kind God decide to punish me this way. I mean this is a whole new punishment Martin, watching that girl struggles is a torture. She struggles with speech, struggle with walking and can't eat by herself, there's always a guardian. Edna got a caregiver that we pays, and in the absence of her caregiver, Edna takes over but despite paying monthly for Marvel care, my wife still wants me to still act as a caregiver to Marvel when she can't. It's tiring man and I'm seriously exhausted.."

I freely poured out my heart to Martin.

"Sam relax, Marvel is a great kid who wants to be treated like every other normal child. you're making it seems like Marvel is a baggage, a burden you wish to get rid off.."

"But she's not like every other person Martin. She's different and yes she got lots of baggage but there's nothing I can do except..."

An idea clicked

"...I need to secretly do a DNA test. I have to prove that Marvel isn't mine..."

"So you're doubting your wife's fidelity, you think Edna had an affair with another man and it produced Marvel..? Martin asked shocked at my words

"Anything is possible Martin, the DNA will prove it. I need explanation on Marvel.. I have to secretly carry out a DNA. Edna doesn't have to know.."

"And if the results comes out that you're not the father. What will happen to Edna and Marvel..?

"A whole lot, she will have to return Marvel to whoever her father is. I can't be stuck with her and Edna will have to give me a solid reason why she went sleeping with another man and had to punish me with Marvel for over six years. Edna too will have to go. I can't deal with a cheater of a wife..."

"Sam, you're indeed becoming cråzy, you're not usually like this. I know life can be hard, sometimes we ask for orange and it gives lemon but that doesn't mean that lemon is entirely useless. Think deeply before you break your family apart..."

I gulp down my drink, took another bottle that will give me an extra 30 minutes to 10 pm before I start driving home.

I wonder why I haven't thought of the idea of a DNA.

It's never late to carry out my plan secretly.
