Author's POV
Alexander entered his room, making sure to lock the door to keep any unwelcome guests, especially Deluxe, from disturbing or distracting him. He turned on the shower without bothering to undress, feeling the heat wash over his body and exacerbating his already pounding head. Resting his palm against the wall, he tried to calm his racing thoughts by taking slow breaths, but it only seemed to enrage him further. In a fit of frustration, he let out a piercing scream and punched the wall.
"I never thought I'd say this, but you were right, father," Alexander muttered, his voice filled with pain. "You said she would ruin my life, and she did. She did it perfectly, to the point where I don't even want to let her go. What am I going to do? I'm confused, heartbroken, shattered, and weak. If I do anything to hurt her family, she'll never forgive me, and I can't bear to see her hurt. Why does this have to happen to me? Why don't I resent her after everything? Why do I want her even more now that I know the truth? Who do I even love? Is it Alice or Deluxe?" Tears mingled with the water cascading down his face, hidden from view.
Alexander ran his wet hands through his hair, wincing at the pain in his knuckles and flexing his fingers in an attempt to alleviate it. After spending what felt like an eternity under the cold shower, he finally turned it off and dried himself off with a towel tied around his waist. He changed into comfortable clothing and collapsed onto his bed, covering his eyes with the back of his hand.
"Alex?" A gentle knock on the door shattered the silence, interrupting his desired solitude. Alexander reluctantly lifted his hand from his eyes, glancing at the locked door. "I made you tea," a voice called from the other side.
He let out a grunt in response, torn between the temptation of Alice's...Deluxe's tea and his desire to remain where he was. "I'm coming in," the voice continued.
Faint jingling of keys reached his ears as the door swung open, revealing Deluxe standing beside it with a cup of tea in her hand, dressed only in his shirt that doubled as a gown. While the shirt hung long on her petite body, it still stopped at her knees. She walked over to him and placed the mug on his nightstand with one hand, attempting to remove his hand from his eyes with the other.
"Love..." she began.
"Please don't," he cut her off, his voice laden with exhaustion and pain.
"I know. I'm not saying anything about that. I just want you to eat and take your medicine," Deluxe pleaded.
"I don't want to eat," Alexander protested.
"I know you wouldn't. That's why I made you a cup of tea. Please take it," she insisted.
Reluctantly, Alexander lifted his hand from his eyes and turned his head to look at the nightstand. The steam of the tea wafted into his nostrils, causing him to release a breath. "I don't want to," he repeated.
"If you don't take your medicine, your migraine will only worsen," Deluxe reasoned.
"I really don't want to," he persisted.
"You have to," she said firmly.
"I said no," he replied defiantly.
"And I said yes," she countered.
"Alice..." Alexander closed his eyes and groaned, his fists clenched. "Please go. I'm really not in the mood."
Deluxe bit down on her lip, her eyes starting to water as she gazed at her boyfriend, who wouldn't even meet her gaze. He looked like he was in immense pain, and she knew exactly who was responsible. She hesitated, staring at the door and debating whether to leave him alone to suffer with his migraine.
A smile spread across her face as an idea formed in her mind. "Babe?" she called softly.
"Hmm?" he responded.
She climbed onto the bed and lay beside him, resting her head on his chest. A more genuine grin crossed her lips when she heard him let out a relieved sigh.
"What are you doing?" he questioned.
"Lying down with my boyfriend," she replied.
"I..."
She nodded, sitting up. "I don't know what else to say about all of this, but I'm truly sorry for betraying you the way I did. I know I shouldn't have done it, and I know you're human, but if I had the power to go back in time, I would do the same." Deluxe cleared her throat, fighting back the lump forming. "I mean, how else would I have met you? How else would I have come into your life? How else would I have gotten to know the real you? How else would I have fallen in love with you?" She gently took his hand and brushed her fingers against his bruised knuckles, causing him to hiss and she quickly retract her hand. "Sorry. How did you get hurt?"
"It doesn't matter. I'm fine," he deflected.
"Are you really?"
Alexander initially wanted to pull away from her touch, but he changed his mind and allowed her to hold his hand. Despite the hurt and betrayal she had caused him, he could still see love in her pretty green eyes when he looked at her. Those eyes, the ones he had fallen for, still held adoration for him. Her words began to mend his broken heart, if only slightly.
"Are you only saying this because of the tea?" he teased. A smile graced Deluxe's lips, though tinged with sadness.
"Alexander, I'm truly sorry. I'll apologize for eternity to show you how sorry I am. I know it's wrong of me to ask, but can we please move on from this? I don't want to end our relationship. I love you so much, and if you break up with me, I'll die."
Alexander sat up, facing her with utmost seriousness. "Don't ever talk about dying. You won't die. You can't die. I won't let you die, not after promising me forever. You owe me." He leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I'm not breaking up with you."
"You're not?" she asked, tears glistening in her eyes.
"Hell no," he replied, his thumb gently stroking her cheek. "I just need some time to come to terms with the fact that you're not Alice but Deluxe, the daughter of the man my father despises."
"We'll handle that together, right?"
"Of course."
"Before or after we go to Mexico to see my dad?"
"During."
